    Jason Krause's Meat6loaf is pretty tight (but where's Meat's red scarf?). Paden Guido's Ellen Foley? Not so much. Remember that by "Here's the play at the plate" Meat looks like his tongue is down Foley's throat, and he's leaving fingerprints on her butt.
    OK, Jason and Paden are both a touch too young, or maybe chaperones said "look like there really is paradise by the dashboard light going on, you're done and gone from the All-Stars Team. Got that, kids?". BTW folks, Paradise is a duet, with backup singers, not a a line of four doing much of the lyrics. All of that said...
    It's a pretty good try, with a decent band behind, and Tessa Murthy's KB fills working well.

He wasn't getting "a bit close" they're performing the song completely. It's one thing to play an instrument, but to sing well like this and play the role... the stage is complete. between them, they all nailed it... but she's extra phenomenal... just that extra % that makes the difference in being cast in a role.

    Ive watched a lot of these school of rock videos and this performance is clearly the best. Everything from the singing, musicianship and performance is top notch. Besides those chosen to be all-stars I've always wondered how the kids are grouped together and the songs they sing are chosen. Cant wait to see more (especially Lauren).

    • @MidWestConcertVideo2
      @MidWestConcertVideo2  7 лет назад +9

      I'm friends with a couple of the AllStars directors, and from what I understand it goes like this:
      A student who wants to try out for AllStars has to have been going to the school for three years, has to be a member of their local school's "House Band" (that gigs around town) and have a recommendation from their local school's Music Director. They then submit a five minute video explaining why they want to do this, their School of Rock career (including mentoring other kids) and playing portions of two songs - one from one of the classic rock bands (usually Led Zeppelin) and one of their choosing.
      The ones that pass the first level are invited to regional live auditions. This lets the AllStars directors see how they work in a band and get more of an idea of their chops and personalities.
      There is a third level audition, where (again this is second hand information) the bands are assembled by each director. The kids who don't pass the third level audition will usually go onto other tours, like the Summertour, and playing at Summerfest.
      In 2014, the selection process was different, being grouped regionally - five of these musicians were from the Chicago School of Rock, one from Kansas City and I'm not sure where the other three came from.
      I don't envy the AllStars directors their job - any kid who gets to the second level is going to be a very good musician, and the third level are going to be amazing. It has to be very difficult to choose.

    • @MidWestConcertVideo2
      @MidWestConcertVideo2  7 лет назад +6

      The AllStars are assembled from various School of Rock locations, but some schools are so exceptional that they produce multiple AllStars. In this case the two vocalists, the drummer, the lead guitarist and the announcer were all from the Chicago location, so they knew each other. But the bassist was from Kansas City, and you know how vital it is for a drummer and bassist to meld and they managed to do that over three days of rehearsal.

    Most Rock bands that play and perform in the real world, don't, for the most part, have any women in them, except sometimes as a lead singer. School of Rock though, seems to have a fair number of young women singers, as well as, (un all the videos that I've seen) keyboard players & bass players. They seem to be more represented here than on stage in the live bands I've seen through the years. Btw, check out the Toto "Africa" cover by these Polish High School students (on this page somewhere) ""Zespol INterim Gimanzjum w Slezakach" . They have almost equal numbers of male and female performers and they do an almost better version of this song than Toto! Their young female singer is great.

    • @MidWestConcertVideo2
      @MidWestConcertVideo2  4 года назад +2

      The number one legacy of the School of Rock is an extraordinary number of talented female musicians and singers. There's something about learning music in the situation with adult supervision that helps girls and young women excel.

    • @davejohnson-yi2rk
      @davejohnson-yi2rk 4 года назад +1

      @@MidWestConcertVideo2 Interesting observation. I notice that in most videos of High School and College Choirs, women outnumber men. The same is true for Churches and for a few "Meetup.com" groups I've seen in their promo emails. But by the time you go up in age to the early 20s, when you're talking concert halls, clubs, anywhere that present Rock bands, those numbers decline sharply.
      I suspect that's because many young women, perhaps wisely, want to avoid what they view as the toxic Alpha male/Slacker Male atmosphere of Rock groups, where Guitars & Drums and Keyboards & Basses, are virtually the domain of males - and women's presence is something of a "novelty". When women sing, it's usually as Solo artists, and less likely to be in the Rock Genre. Successful "Girl Groups" are, I suppose even in 2020, still the exception rather than the rule.
      Nobody blinks if a young woman sings, plays piano or flute, but I think you'll always hear surprise at
      "Wow, you play lead guitar?!?!" - - - DJ

    • @MidWestConcertVideo2
      @MidWestConcertVideo2  4 года назад

      @@davejohnson-yi2rk Exactly right! The difference with School of Rock is that these young women have been learning to play and sing alongside their male peers since they were 8 years old, being taken seriously and being supported by their parents, their teachers and their fellow students, both male and female. By the time they graduate when they're 18, most of them have had bands of their own for years, and have tons of confidence. They also are required to mentor and teach younger students. If you can get a whole bunch of 8 year olds to play a rock song, you can handle anything the music industry's going to throw at you.

    Everyone did so well but the guy with the blue shirt especially had a great energy about his performance in the first part. Love him.

      He's been an actor since he was a kid, so he brings that same commitment to the performance that Meatloaf did.
      RIP Jim steinman.

      I agree, his blond cohort who does backup is excellent too. They all are! They so nailed it, I don't think anyone could do a better cover of this song.

    Like many folks these days, I have thousands of songs a click away, and great equipment on which to hear top quality recordings. But what’ve I come back to three or four times now? Kids on RUclips playing a cover. :-) ;-)
    But that’s OK, because they are THAT good! I hope everybody in this band is still playing music, and OP thanks for sharing.

      Glad to help! I know the male singer. Jason Krause, is teaching at the Chicago School of Rock and is pursuing a career in music. The guitarist Algren Rogers is also teaching.

    The blonde crazy girl kind of scares me. I guess that is part of the act.

    Bat Out of Hell (1977). It was Ellen Foley ("Night Court") on the female vocal.

    The look at 6:45; probably every guy has seen that look and every wise girl has given it. Yeah. Right.

    The vocalists didn't just have great, strong voices, but I loved how they incorporated some effective theatrics into the song. Meatloaf is a hard vocalist & act to copy or pay tribute to and these kids acquitted themselves really well. They should be proud.

      AH HA! Yeah, he was quite good. Also, the gal vocalist who took Ellen Foley's part did a really good job with the way she emoted. Nothing over the top, but good for the part & for on stage and for a young performer. I couldn't honestly hear the blonde gal's vocals (separately) from the others, but I liked the way she swayed to the music, and the expression she kept on her face, she stayed "in character" too even though she wasn't the focus like the other two. I kept focusing on her for some reason, and I noticed a few other people commented on her positively.

    It's satisfying to see the kids of today (at the schools of rock) rocking out to the classic tunes of yesterday of when I was growing up. Well done!.

    This was the best group performance of all the School Of Rock videos I’ve seen. Outstanding!!
    Not only did the performers knock it out of the park but have to give kudos to everyone involved. Sound, video, and everyone working behind the scenes to make a show like this what it was. Bravo!!
