This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).
I was terrified to even touch my unit until I saw this. It seems so simple I feel confident I can get this done. Thanks!

THANK YOU!!! I had horrible gurgling bubbling sounds. Getting error codes and no hot water or heat. I did this exactly as you said and no error codes and the unit is so quiet. It was so dirty when I took out the condensate trap. I believe this was holding all the junk in the system and water which cause the bubbling noise. Thank you so much.... I don't need to pay $175 for a service every year either as I will do it myself! Great educational video at the perfect pace.

Thank you for a very useful video. I watched it once, and then downloaded the Navien "User's Information Manual" from the corporate downloads page. I watched it a second time while looking through the manual. Considering how expensive the unit was to purchase, the extra bit of time seemed well spent. The manual does suggest inspecting and cleaning the "Strainer" on the space heating side. I guess I'll try it when I attempt to clean this unit. My unit has isolation valves on the boiler side between the unit and our floor manifold, so those will be closed too. The video is a great walk through and great confidence builder for a home owner, thank you.

Towards the end of the video when your discussing not needing to flush the zone heating, I noticed an installed gauge. Would you be able to say a bit about this gauge and why it's installed ... my system lacks this additional instrumentation. Thanking in advance.

Make sure to use soapy water/leak detector on top seal of heat exchanger, almost every unit I have tested has had a warranty covered exhaust leak. These units across all models have this issue.
Do you guys leak test the heat exchangers when you install? Because brand new ones have been leaving the factory leaking exhaust gases.

I work on these a lot. There seems to be a problem with the exhaust gasket that leads to a brown oil like condensation inside them. Would be a good move to replace during maintenance.

I saw one of your other Navien descaling videos and you didn’t open the hot water faucets on the other video. I followed that video and didn’t open the hot water faucets, will the descaling be ok or should I do another descaling and open the hot water lines? Confused
hi i have a navien ncb 240 combi boiler. I completed the flush on the domestic side without any issues but when i attempted to flush the main heat exchanger there was no circulation almost as if there was an internal valve inside that was closed. the navien boiler was unplugged when i was completing the flush, should i turn it on in order to have that internal valve open? any advice would be much apprecited. thanks in advance
I need to replace my cold water inlet screen, and both o-rings, but the manual only has a part number fro the center o-ring. i'm also looking for the following: the outer big o-ring p/n, and the p/n for the little plastic redish color part on the inside end of the filter screen, and a p/n for the rubber piece on the tip of the reddish colored thing. any advise? My local plumber wants to come do a costly service call, instead of selling me the parts I can simply replace DIY. My unit is a NAVIEN NCB-240E-NG
So what about the “heating” related inlet/outlet ports on this combi 240? It didn’t look like Ray touched them. Are they somehow separated from the system so you don’t need to touch them? At one point THEIR valves still looked open. EDIT: he confirms they’re separate and don’t touch @ ~ 14:45.
Very well presented videos. I clean multiple units once per year but I like to watch your videos prior as a good reminder of the correct steps. I do have a question if possible on my Navien CH-240 unit. On the hydronic side of the combi unit it has a strainer. I took that out and cleaned it and the residual water drained out into a bucket. I was shocked at how rusty and oily it was. Not sure if that's debris from around the burner or something that's inside all the hydronic heating pipes. You mentioned that the hydronic side shouldn't be descaled. Should I instead bring in a plumber to drain and clean the hot water heating lines? Many thanks.

@@jamestrezza5788 I ended up draining and refilled the hydronic heat side. That was a year ago. I just descaled the domestic hit water side and then cleaned the filter on the hydronic heat side. Once again the filter and inside of the valve in the hydronic heat side was pretty greasy/darkened with grime. I cleaned it up and put it back in. A plumber friend didn't seem concerned. The combi boiler is 10 years old and has been pretty reliable.

Please help! I keep getting error 035E on my Navien tankless. This error relates to the gas sensor pressure flow. I have checked the gas line, and the pressure seems ok. Somehow my device is malfunctioning the gas sensor device, we changed the sensor a few months back, and it worked fine for a few months, and now I got the 035E back. Do you know what is causing the gas sensor failure again? I am on natural gas, and my heating and hot water are through Navien.
Can you do one for the model NCB-180E?

My NCB240E doesn’t have a “dirt trap”… on the user manual there is something called “space heating strainer (pump drain plug) - is that the same time?! Doesn’t look the same on your video but is held by a pin similarly…😖

Watched another of your videos - annual descaling. 1/5 - 1/6 hp sump pump, regular vinegar, 2 - 3 gal for 1/2- 3/4 hr.

I just phoned three companies, one said do a flushing and maintenance every year, another said do it only every 3 years and another said don't do any service if it is operating okay. Who should I listen to???

You can use the small unit - it's not a lot of distance or pressure.
Keep getting the e110 error code but the intake filter and exhaust are free of any blockages any idea what I should do.
I had the same problem when it was first installed. There was 2 things i had to address. One was the Exhaust and intake were a little too close to each other once they exited the house. I believe the code is 12 inches apart if im not mistaken. We had it like 9 inches. So we then changed the angle so it could have a total of 13 inches apart. The other was making sure the exhaust PVC pipe is pitched away from the Navien. (not towards) because that water from the exhaust has to drain away from the navien and drip towards the exit of the house. We did these both changes and now it works fine.. Good luck
Mine also flashed the 110 code. Our unit was 4 years old and I had no idea they had to be serviced. When I removed the air intake filter at the top of the boiler it was pretty plugged up with dead bugs and poplar fuzz (I believe this was the problem). The white distillate cap at the bottom also had a bit of sediment in it. The cold water intake filter was clean (little black tubular filter at the bottom of the boiler). I cleaned those 3 things and unplugged the unit for an hour while I performed the flush…. when I plugged it back in, the code was gone and everything works fine again. After 4 years without a service, there was next to zero scaling in my system or on the cold water inlet filter. Going forward, I will flush it every 4-5 years but I’ll be servicing the air intake filter and distillate cap every year which maybe takes 5 minutes. This entire process too me 1-1/2 hours and 1 hour of that was waiting on the vinegar to flush the boiler. Saves me about $500/year on a plumber and it only cost me a one-time cost of $110.00 Canadian to buy the sump and 2 washing machine hoses. I’m an older fella and I gotta say… I friggin love RUclips for stuff like this as well as the folks who take the time to make videos like this!
I have a question for you. I clean my Navien every year but lately when I turn on the hot water my system sounds like a engine cycling through. Hope this makes sense. Would you know what might be causing this noise?
Go to you tube pipe doctor from New York. There is a class action law suit against Navien units please check your heater they all leak CARBON MONOXIDE ALL LEAK FROM THE HEAT EXCHANGER

Paid Facetime or "video chat" to attempt to fix 353 code error? I did reboot plug unplug system it did not fix it self. Called Navien tech support and was told they cannot do ove the phone trouble shooting? Happy to pay for this service. When a "real" certified service tech is called he does not know how to fix a 353 error code - he calls Navien tech support. Any ideas ?

I noticed that you used a black steel pipe on the condensing drain, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to use black steel on it, you should use PVC.

Why do they have a shut off valve on the downstream side of the Maxitrol? That’s kinda useless.
Are you sure you don't need to flush/descale the the boiler side? There are guys on RUclips doing both and that boiler side is always the filthiest.
Good informative video! For a combi unit do you need to flush out both the domestic hot water and central heat exchangers? In other words do a one hour flush for each the domestic hot water and central heat? The central heat pipes are usually 1" versus the 3/4" for domestic hot water. So how is the central heat side flushed?
