@@inforthewin3231 That is a fine opinion Sir, But there is a reason you dont see many 2005 Ram trucks still on the road today here in Michigan. The last few years Chrysler has stepped up the game across the board. The Trucks and SUV's have the best interiors, paint quality and engine packages in the game right now.
@@inforthewin3231 The only thing that was better about the 2005 was the engine. The transmission and body were garbage. By 200k miles you'll be on your 4th transmission and your whole body will be bondo. This truck has a much better transmission and body.
I bought a ‘21 2500 Laramie with a Cummins back in January & I absolutely love it. More than enough room & power to haul all 6 of us & our 30ft camper around the state. It was definitely a challenge to find a 6 passenger Laramie with body color matching bumpers and grille & a Cummins in our price range but we did it.
@@that_mdrfkr4451 It was definitely difficult finding the right model with 6 seats. We had to get ours delivered from about 450 miles away. Almost had it for a year now & we love it. Great truck. Which trim level are you looking for?
@@hooptietime4427 Laramie for sure but I’d settle for a tier 2 big horn probably. Honestly if I could get a lariat sooner than a 6 month lead time I think I’d give it a shot. The 2022 f250s really stepped it up on the cabins and tech. But I’m a super big Cummins fan so I’m torn
@@that_mdrfkr4451 The Fords are nice. I looked at a couple of those too when I couldn’t find the right Ram. I prefer Ram’s styling but the Fords look pretty badass.
The high output Cummins with the ASIN transmission is an option even on the 3500, , you can only get it on the 3500 but as an option , so, on the 2500 you can only get the standard Cummins, with the 3500 you can choose the standard Cummins for roughly $9000 more than Gas models or the high output Cummins for roughly $12,000 more then the gas model, so, when you are looking to buy a 1 ton ram, it doesn't necessarily mean that it has that high output Cummins in it
Do you feel that the transmission while not towing is unruly and difficult to live with? I have a 2021 SO 6.7 dually and the transmission is great, but I'm about to order a 2022 dually and a bit spooked about what I read on the HDRams forum about that H.O. transmission.
@@LarryMusgrave I don't think so. It is a much firmer shift compared to the 68RFE in the 2500's. I had the chance to test drive both the 2500 and a 3500 before I ordered mine so I knew what I was getting into. My biggest comaint is: When not in tow haul, the trans always wants get to 6th gear as fast as possible and keep the RPM as low as possible....I'm assuming for emissions and fuel economy. Couple that with the sluggish throttle responds gets annoying when you want to accelerate. I still enjoy driving my truck, I drive it everyday.....I learned not to stab the throttle every where I go and just roll Into it....and it does good for me.
@@3076gds I put a PC31 Throttle Commander on mine and it massively helps with the lazy throttle by remapping the throttle input. You may want to consider that option, there are a few companies that make these, they all do exactly the same thing.... so what can you get the cheapest/ used would be the question. I got mine for $220 used in the HDRam forum.
i have the same truck leveled on 35's with the stock wheels and i average 16ish in the city and about 19-20 on the hwy here in south Louisiana. I will say though at 2K miles the check engine light came on and showed something with the trans valve body. it drove fine but brought it in and 2 months later I got it back. Apparently they had a recall and i was one of the lucky ones and naturally with dealers not being able to get parts they just replaced the whole trans that had different part number. The dealer told me they made updates to the one that was installed and changes made to the valve body . Other than that what nobody talks about is the factory HC 19 speaker sound system with the sub , this is the best sound system i have ever owned and i have owned all brands . The factory radio in my 2018 raptor was a joke. Anyway great review!
@@ReubenNewton the truck is smooth like stock. I have a few buds that have f250's that are leveled and every time they ride in my truck they say how smooth and quite it is.
@@cnetate I looked on the internet for weeks. Found 2, bought one, and before I picked it up the other one was gone. The trade in values that exist now probably won't ever happen again.
You do realize that the 3500 also comes with the same motor and trans as the 2500. The HO motor is another option. You keep talking as if all 3500 models come with the HO motor which is not true.
Decent review. I drive a variety of 1 ton diesel trucks for work towing stock trailers mostly. The big three all make good trucks. My personal truck is a 21 Ram 3500 HO with the Aisan transmission. Two points that Andre didn’t cover: The Cummins is a slow turning inline diesel that develops its torque early in its power band which makes it good for towing bad for the drag strip. The other point is that the exhaust brake on the Ram is far superior to Ford or GM. I have descended mountain passes with 20,000+ on the gooseneck and there is no pucker factor with the Ram.
Great video Andre! #10: A bit misleading. The 3500 is available with both the SO/68RFE and HO/AISIN diesel engines as well as the Hemi/8HP75-LCV. #8: Also a bit misleading. See my comment on #10. #3: CCLB trucks offer an optional 50 gallon fuel tank. #2: Aux Trailer is an option on any trim level, not included unless the XFQ sales code is used. 2022 changes options up a bit with the addition of a digital tow mode camera that displays in the rearview mirror as well as an available 360° trailer system that will automatically add the wiring for the cameras.
With regards to whether someone should buy the Cummins or not, I also believe people need to be cognizant of whether their driving patterns will allow them to complete a regen cycle or not. If they are driving little, but their driving pattern allows for this, then that makes a difference. If their driving pattern does not allow for regen completion, they will be miserable, the truck will be miserable, and fuel economy will be horrific.
As you state, that is a big issue that people are not aware of the issues with modern emissions diesels. Most people simply remember how simple diesels used to be and the salesmen sure arn't going to bring up these inconveniences either.
Yup, love my 3500 SRW. Many options are available to help with ride quality....plus its a 3500, so you'd better be hauling something frequently instead of being a poser.
The 6.4 hemi goes through the same 300,000 mile test the Cummins does. Just did a almost 3000 mile round trip with my 2019 hemi pulling a 9,000 travel trailer, it didn’t even break a sweat.
The 6.4 is a beast. with all the emissions and other junk they put on diesels nowadays as much as I like a good diesel truck I can't justify owning one if I don't absolutely need it due to costs and potential failure from the systems. The hemi is perfectly practical and hauls pretty good, especially with the 4.10 gears
@@marvnation924the 6.4 has horrible fuel mileage. I own a 6.0 vortec and a 6.7 cummins and my diesel blows my gasser out all day in fuel economy. The cummins is also way more reliable than the 6.4 hemi ever will be.
When I was deciding between diesel and gas I did a lot of research and also talked with my uncle who is a diesel mechanic. Based on that I went gas. It is my understanding that diesels do not do well sitting around or just being used for short trips in town. You run into regen issues. Can you guys do a video on this topic???
@@f5tornadeau how difficult is a regen delete? Seriously wanting diesel but after warranty expires would like to delete regen garbage. Does it require special programming, chips, etc..?
Had that exact problem with the diesel because short travel interrupted the regen process. This resulted in requiring valves cleaned every year and the cab vibrated.
First video I've seen of yours, and must say, it was very refreshing. You talked about the specs and features that matter with a HD truck, and not how "pretty" it looks. We will be purchasing a HD 1-ton truck for traveling (pulling a 5th wheel) in the next 12 months, and want to make sure we find the right truck for our needs. Video's like this are extremely helpful.
I have had 2 previous Cummins truck (2001 2500 & 2008 dually) I used to own Fords,,,Just got my 5th Gen 2019--LOVE IT! once you go Cummins you never go back!
$86,000! I got my new 2500 Tradesman for $46,000 out the door. If you are worried about the price of upgrading to a diesel, do like I did and get last years model. I got my 2018 in April 2019, during "Ram Truck Month", and in so doing I did not pay $9,400 more for the diesel because they discounted the diesel trucks more, so I only paid about $4,000 more to get the diesel. At that difference it would be stupid not to. I love the truck! And on a recent trip from Arizona to South Dakota and back, the worst fill up was 19mpg. Best was 21mpg. Average was a solid 20mpg.
@@jonaveul I know that. But the base model is still very well appointed, and comfortable, and more importantly, does everything the limited trim model does. I don't need heated leather seats and all that gingerbread. I still have all the power windows, door locks, Sirius XM, back up camera etc. And the standard seats are very comfortable. And leaves me with $40,000 to put toward an rv.
For some, that extra gvwr of a 3500 may be unnecessary. For example, depending on what trailer you have, a 2500 will keep you under the 26k mark. But with a 3500, you will need a CDL just to pull the same trailer.
@@wilberzelaya5322 First things first, find out what you're pulling and find out the specs of it. Example - Travel Trailer; Most are under 15k when loaded, but the payload of your truck determines if you can haul it or not. Hitch weight is really the killer for any payload. I think a good payload would be between 3 and 4k. You'll have enough to carry cargo in addition to people and supplies inside the truck. Unless you haul heavier items, you'll be wasting money. A Ram 2500 in the right configuration is a good choice and will be enough truck for most. Diesel or Gas.
How come no one on all these reviews on the new 2021 heavy duty ram cummins trucks ever mentions that they no longer use a CP4 pump? Highly important information!!

Mentioned cost of diesel option. What you didn't mention was what the diesel model was worth vs the gas at trade in time. Diesels hold value better. If your using it anything near what a pickup is meant to be used for you always come out on top going with the diesel.
@@kirkdunn1379 I owned pickups and crewcabs for decades but they were work vehicles. Always operating close to max GVW. Kept log books so able to track fuel consumption. Calculation I provide here is yearly average and includes warm up times and idling for long periods of time during winter. Gas models averaged 30L/100K with the diesels 19L/100K. At first I did not believe the figures and thought a few fillings had to be missed but the figures continued over the next 3 years. Got rid of the last gas vehicle in 1999 so data is definitely out of date. If you were to compare figures for a highway trip in the summer diesels still turned in better figures but definitely not the difference shown over a year. I have never been concerned what a vehicle can do on a highway run under the best of conditions, what I am interested in what does it cost to run that vehicle for a year. In addition to the better fuel economy the crew appreciated the performance of the diesels. So yes at time of trade I did not get the full cost of the motor back but my overall operating cost was cheaper. And when you are in business that is one of your main concerns.
Have you guys thought about running a series on HD truck suspension upgrades? I have a Power Wagon and it appears Carli and Thuren both specialize in systems for Ram and Carli also does them for Fords. I’ve done lots of research on both but it’s usually from each provider which will of course be biased on their setup. Other comments come from owners of one or the other which may also be biased. I really like the way you guys give a true test of trucks and have a non biased opinion. You just state the facts as you find them. Would be great to see this on upgraded suspensions!
I really wish they'd have changed the cab like the 1500 instead of keeping the same ancient cab of the previous Ram. Makes it look outdated compared to the competition. They just changed the lights and grill. Interior looks great though.

I'm about to go trade in my 18 2500 6.4. If you tow on a regular basis, it's got to be diesel. On paper people are convinced the 6.4 is capable, I'M TELLING YOU IT'S NOT! I've got a tree biz and just towing dump trailer and mini loader, I'm at 8000 pound and that's without any load added to that. I'm in Florida, so pretty flat roads, I'd imagine if there were hills that out would be way worse. Went from older dirty max to the 6.4. If you just want a big truck to give around the 6.4 is great. The hardest thing about needing a diesel is having to swallow the price of them these days.
I don't know if heard about the recall on dodge ram trucks. according to Steve Lehto at Lehto law there's a recall for 3500, 4500, and 5500 series of dually trucks for front wheels falling off. the manufacturer instructions give a torque spec that's too much and can damage the wheel studs. the years include 2012 to 2021
That is an outrageous price for that truck! I paid $71,250 US for an absolutely loaded 2022 RAM 3500 4x4 Limited Longhorn, wood in the dash and front doors, wood upper steering wheel bar, leaf spring with air bags, electric tailgate, 6.7L Cummins, and too much to list. I LOVE my RAM 3500!!
Andre, just in time. I am looking. Thanks The 850 pound truck is designed to meet or exceed the needs of the average owner while keeping the cost down. The 1000 pound configuration needs a lot more heavy duty components and costs more while being much less user friendly The 3500 rides very rough and unless you are regularly towing loads that exceed the 2500 that is not a great choice.
The puck fifth wheel/goose neck system from the big three is garbage. You have to stow that crap somewhere else when you want a flat bed and the hole covers get lost right off the bat. Who wants to store a dirty greasy ball and safety chain connectors in the cab or bed? B&W Turn Over ball is the only way to fly. Full pull rating and nothing to store when you want a flat bed surface. I wish those cheap automakers would just pay a licensing fee to B&W and have something good from the factory without having the extra time and expense to have it installed.
Fuel economy is no reason to buy a diesel. If you tow a lot of heavy stuff, yes, by all means get one. I would. But It is hard make up for the price premium difference you pay for the diesel engine in improved fuel mileage. Driving 20,000 miles a year (not many people do), break even is about 10 years out. Of course one other important reason to get a diesel is that you think they sound cool and you simply want one.😁
Do like I did, and buy last years model. I got my 2018 in April of 2019, and they discount the more expensive diesel trucks more than the gas trucks, making the upgrade only a $4,000 difference. I got mine for $46,000 out the door with a 120,000 mile warranty. I just did a 2,200 mile trip and averaged 20mpg.

Honestly, I can’t say enough about Ram. Obviously every brand has their issues but Ram has fixed their Achilles heel which was their transmissions. I highly recommend any of their products.
Man I wish ram would offer a bigger/more powerful gas option. The 6.4 is nice but I’d love to see a new 7.0+ maybe with a hybrid system to help with fuel economy
Honestly the Cummins should not even be offered in a 2500 just because of the lower payload numbers. But they have to have something for everyone I guess.

How is it that this RAM trim level is less than 2k payload but a Chevy 2500 Duramax in a High Country trim level ( highest available) is close to 3k? Is there really that much difference between the two? I thought all 2500/3500s were very close to the same payload in their respective trim levels. I really want the RAM 2500 but I can't pull the camper we want without going to the 3500 RAM.
Pretty awesome truck; however, I cannot get past the fact that my 2020 Silverado LT 4x4 1500 has more payload at 2039 pounds. It has the max trailering package, but still & all, 1978 pounds is not a lot of payload for a 2500 truck.
It’s not really about the trucks ability to haul and more so the 10,000lb weight limit put on these trucks if you have a B license plate.. My 2015 Ram 2500 megacab says like a max of 1800lbs or so on the door sticker… with me in it the truck it weighs 8500lbs… so some one somewhere made restrictions legally its only allowed to carry another 1500 lbs. Lol even though I’ve had 2200lbs in the bed and around 1200-1500lbs tongue weight with a trailer on back. so that’s about the same as double my “legal limit” and truck has never had an issue
Got sick of fixing my ford which is why I bought one of these, but everyone's luck is different. I've owned GMC, Ford, and now Ram. And if this ram shits out on me i'll try chevy and keep rotating.
I recommend hot shots daily fuel additive. The tolerances in the cp4 fuel pump makes sub-par fuel become more of an issue. Ideally do a cp3 swap. But using hot shots will mitigate cp4 issues. Just my opinion.

So I watched this video on a Sunday morning normally I just watch them and not give it a second thought. Before a couple of weeks ago I could care less about the transmission, It's bad enough to have to learn about Duramax and Allison transmission but I really hate Andrea today for trying to learn about the ATS 68RFE to find out the cons of the transmission over the AW. Wow, whining about a truck from 16 yrs ago...
I’ve been looking everywhere. We are a family of 6 as well.

The high output Cummins with the ASIN transmission is an option even on the 3500, , you can only get it on the 3500 but as an option , so, on the 2500 you can only get the standard Cummins, with the 3500 you can choose the standard Cummins for roughly $9000 more than Gas models or the high output Cummins for roughly $12,000 more then the gas model,
so, when you are looking to buy a 1 ton ram, it doesn't necessarily mean that it has that high output Cummins in it
I just purchased a RAM 3500 HO, I only have 1800 miles on it but I absolutely love it.....I upgraded from an 2006 6.0 F350

Thank you
Very few know what regen means.
People still use it around town??

@@f5tornadeau how difficult is a regen delete? Seriously wanting diesel but after warranty expires would like to delete regen garbage. Does it require special programming, chips, etc..?

Honestly either you should buy a 1500 or 3500 no need for the 2500. But 3500 all the way :)
For some, that extra gvwr of a 3500 may be unnecessary. For example, depending on what trailer you have, a 2500 will keep you under the 26k mark. But with a 3500, you will need a CDL just to pull the same trailer.

@@bondservantministriesinc.672 that’s exactly my same thinking, I wish he could say why .

I owned pickups and crewcabs for decades but they were work vehicles.

Because the ram uses a coil spring rear end versus leaf spring
Yep, the coil springs ride nice. But they hurt the payload. I have a 2500 gas truck and the payload is 3k
My 2020 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi has a payload of 3,200lbs and will tow almost 15,000lbs with the 3.73
Pretty respectable numbers for the gasser..
It will never be as good as a Ford Truck
Got sick of fixing my ford which is why I bought one of these, but everyone's luck is different. I've owned GMC, Ford, and now Ram. And if this ram shits out on me i'll try chevy and keep rotating.
in other words I'm not brand loyal - I want reliable.
😂 Fords reputation for Diesel engines is spectacular.
Sold my 2018 F250 with 11 k miles all stock due to the infamous death wobble. Never ever again.
@todd bob
Dodge will always be a better truck
I recommend hot shots daily fuel additive. The tolerances in the cp4 fuel pump makes sub-par fuel become more of an issue. Ideally do a cp3 swap. But using hot shots will mitigate cp4 issues. Just my opinion.
The 2021's have gone back to the CP3 pump. But I do agree with you on swapping out the CP4 with the CP3.
@@mavrick0pm Yep. That was a good move.
Can i get it in eu? Can i register it drive it... inport it... and can i drive it with b or i need c driver category?
Just picked up a 2020 Laramie
Why buy a short box for a fifth wheel?
Maybe this should be called "Pretend to Buy a Ram Heavy Duty Truck Guide" because they are all sold out.
I just bought one 2 weeks ago. Arrived at dealer on Wednesday afternoon I bought it Thursday morning.
I work at a dodge dealer and there are no new trucks out there
There is a reason they are sold out! I've been a GM guy my whole life, going to order a 3500 HO in the fall
Bought this exact truck two weeks ago in all black. Found one on a lot far away and they delivered it to me!!! Awesome truck!!!
Been waiting 10 weeks on my green 3500 srw mega cab with blackout package limited with ram boxes . Dealer has no update.
Thanks for yet another excellent video. I wonder if you can help with a question I have on my 2022 Dodge 3500 tradesman back bench seat. The headrest is so big and caused a big blindspot for me on the passenger back side. I can't figure out how to bend or even remove the headrest. Do you know how this can be done? Thank you so much for your help!
They should pull up and off . I took mine off on my 2021 for plowing!
Wish I could afford one. They keep getting more expensive every year. I have a 2011 but I love it
Stick with your 2011. These new rams are way over priced. 80-90k for a truck. F No!
You can think the EPA/Federal government for the lack of horsepower & torque. Our grandson has a ‘99 Dodge 3500 with a stock 5.9L Cummins standard shift that will out pull & run circles around that 2021 6.7L Cummins. He’s rebuilding a ‘99 2500 with a 5.9L Cummins that the previous owner abused. Y’all have a good one
Sorry tex but a stock 99 Cummins will not come close to running circles around a 2021 6.7 Cummins good luck with that
A stock '99 5.9L can't hold a candle to a '21 6.7L
“Lack of HP/TQ” 😆 we’re over the 1,000 TQ threshold…STOCK. Only thing you can thank the EPA for is EGR, DPF and DEF.
Thinking about trading a 18 tundra for one I love it but need haul little more weight. Mine will do 8000 easy but not much more. Whats average price for these best I found was 65k so far.
I found one recall on the ATS but it's really hard to tell about the true reliability versus the truck owners that do the stupid stuff that the transmission was built for which to handle the maximum payload and or towing capacity.
Do you have any insight on when the heavy duty’s will get the new cab?
I heard 2023 model year
I’m waiting for the new cab. No deals or inventory now anyway.
@@stevel6932, check out Dave Smith in Idaho. They usually have plenty of inventory. I bought my 2020 3500 from them. They took almost $12k off of sticker.
@@CornFed_3 when did you buy it? I bought my 2021 3500 HO in October and there wasn’t a dealer around willing to take anything off the sticker. People are buying these trucks off of the transports or storage lots before they even get to the dealership. My salesman said his daughter works for a Ford dealer and they are 5000.00 over invoice and can’t keep them on the lot? Crazy times. I hope I don’t regret paying a little more than I probably should have. I run the wheels off of my trucks though, so will have it for years and years after the initial sting of purchase, and it will make me a lot of money during it’s service life.
I just don't get why so many people apparently "need" a diesel. The 6.4 hemi that he has can tow like 14k pounds.
Tow 14k with a gasser and report back, it’s not fun.
That payload is pretty sad for 3/4;ton
If your towing heavy enough to require a diesel motor a 3500 is only smart option......increased ability with minimal cost difference and ride quality is same.....
2500 is hybrid for contractors and weekend warriors....gas works for payload and 10k trailers.....if you need a diesel your towing serious weight or steep grades just get a 3500.....
2020 LT 2500 loaded and was 3600lbs, my 2021 GMC 1500 elevation is 1900 lbs Payload
Yes It Is
I’m amazed at how bad some 3/4 ton truck’s payloads are. My F150 has 1847 lbs of payload available.
If I don’t tow would it be pointless to get this? I just want a diesel they look cool and I like them lifted with big tires.
Pointless for sure and creating other problems like parking, turning radius, stiff ride…
Thats my exact truck. Love it
I’m loving my ‘21 RAM 2500 Tradesman with the big Hemi and 4:10 gears. It does burn a lot of gas though. Fortunately it’s not my daily driver.
What kind of MPG are you getting? I have the same truck with 373s and I’m getting 15 city/18 hwy on 87 octane. Granted it only has 1000 miles on it...
Towing we get 8-9 mpg. Around town 13-14. Hwy is better but not sure what it is. Only 1300 miles so far. We tow a 12000 # 5th wheel.
How is the extra torque achieved? Strictly tuning or different components?
ALLLLL in the tuning. I just had my truck deleted and tuned 2020 2500. Little over 500hp on the dyno last weekend. Completely stock
Turbo is smaller on the 2500. Some of the internals are different too.
@@hellkitty1014 The part numbers appear to be interchangeable on Holset website between 2500 and 3500? Do you have a source to see what the true difference is?
when people usually get a work truck they get it to work and get stuff done not for the highest package and screens technology and i like the 31 gal;on fuel tank
I have the ‘19 High Output (HO) 6.7 Cummins in the 3500 SRW. It shreds tires like crazy unloaded if I’m not careful. Pulling my equipment, man it shines. It seems to have more power when loaded down because the tires can hook up better.
The computer is programmed not to output full power when not under certain load parameters. So you'll never feel it unless you need it.
