It depends. Some of the drills are eliminated as we progress through the season. For example once acceleration has bettered, 2 point, 3 and 4 point are the only positions we accelerate from. The initial wall drill is typically thr precursor to the others. Make sense?

Sir I never ran before and I am going to face 800 meters in 2:30 minutes.I started practicing before 1 week but due to shin pain I can't even walk now.Physician suggested either total rest or walk.can target achievable in 2 month practice with my weight 73 kg and height 167cm.
If you have a 2 month slot before you are to run, walking may not be a good thing. Shin splints happen often, especially when you are learning either how to run properly, or if you are stomping while running. What types of workouts are you doing? As far as running goes.
Toe drag for athletes that are powerful enough to execute it is great. There are many though that can't. That power output, and even basic coordination to execute it is often times difficult.
Have them do all the drills in flats. I only had my spikes on because I was recording a lot that day 😆 Flats until they are about to start sprinting/accelerating ...
Do you recommend sprinting after doing these drills or doing these will be good enough. COVID restrictions has made it tough to go out and do track work.
It depends on what you are doing for a workout. You can just work on these, or you could do a workout that involves sprinting, tempo/form running, etc.
I am a soccer player and want improve my speed.. But its difficult. I have soccer training 3x per week and 1 game. I heard you should atleast do 3 days of sprints and what about weight training? Any tips? Rest days?
It depends on who you talk to. I recommend you don't do max velocity sprints 3 days a week, that would be a lot on your body. 2 max, and weight training you can execute 3 x a week. I have trained a few soccer athletes myself. You guys are the easiest to change, because you typically don't use your arms or lift your knees when running during soccer games.
3 days a week? Your pretty lazy. 5 days a week would be better especially for your age. And since you play soccer, most of your training should be learning how to play smarter rather than dumber.
@@nsamusic6492 Well it is sometging similar (sakker) in a lot of languages....plus, it is a word Americans and Canadians learned from Brits, who invented it....
I’m just getting into sprinting (before I was doing cross country and I just wanted try sprinting) and I am having a hard time getting to strike with my forefoot rather than my mid foot which is what I’m used to doing now. Oddly is kinda tricky to correct it. What can I do to help?
When you do your drills, start with walking to get the idea. Now landing mid foot to fore foot isn't a problem, it's when you land on your heels. That is the problem.
I'm a 16 year old female and I've dealt with shin splints pretty much all season. Our very first track meet for the 100m my time was 14.11 and ever since I developed shin splints my time has been aroumd 14.34. I don't know rather it's just the shin splints that slowed me down or my technique. Do you have any tips or advice?
@@coachwelly unfortunately I don't but my coach has been saying it looks as if I'm in pain when I run and it's been preventing me from going 100% at track meets. I thought the problem might have been my running shoes so I got new ones that my coach approved of and it was getting better but I still couldn't go 100%. So he let me continue running the 4×1, and 4×4 but took me off the 4×2.
@@kattbandit5633 that could definitely be a part of the problem, but only part of the problem. I would need to see you run in order to give a true diagnosis.
@@coachwelly Thanks for the quick reply. I mean I am not training for competition, I just want to be more explosive, which starting is better? I always start with 2 point start because it seems to be the easiest.
@@chinocoffee9565 have you seen my video, 4 ways to improve acceleration? Take a look and it may give you different ways to be explosive, and you can choose. Plus you dont have to competitive to train like a track athlete.
How much and what type of weight lifting/exercise should I be doing? I’m new to sprinting and I really want to work hard to get fast. Just don’t know how to do it because I need to be doing it correct
So will this help me in the 400? because im strong and can sprint the whole thing, but since I’m not quick I can’t break a minute yet. Edit: I’m not sure if that made since, but I tried my best to explain it.
How many times per week do you suggest I do these? I'm thinking of doing more things outside of track sessions since my times are slow and that bugs me (12.5, 26.1 - I'm 14 and it's my first season)
How low should I stay in my acceleration phase? I’m fairly tall at 5’11 and I’m pretty much around a 45 degree angle, but I see other sprinters either go at a 60 degree angle or even 30 degrees. I know it’s mostly preference but I wanna know your thoughts. And how should I avoid “hunching” my back when I’m low? I try and keep my back straight but it’s hard because I feel like I’m gonna fall forwards lol
45 degrees for the most part is ideal. You avoid arching by making sure your hips are forward and not behind your center of mass. The almost falling forward could have a lot to do with that added with, just speculating, but you are probably not popping your knee forward, or you are just leaning too far forward.
For spikes you simply put them on like shoes. They are to help you run faster. Also, these drills are for any individual in any event, and/or sport that needs to learn how to accelerate.
What age can kids start sprint? Is 6-7 years too early? Some people say that if a kid is so young then later will be exploited and will not make progress. But in Jamaica children 6yrs old train 2 hours/day and they are the best and they are not exploited.
That depends on the parents. Teaching them the fundamentals of sprinting, I agree with, but trying to periodize them that young could lead to burn out, progression plateaus, or the kids getting to an age where they just don't want to do it anymore. Your call.
Micheal Wellington ohh yahh abt plateaus when and why do they happen some athletes?? how do u overcome or avoid it to make sure u don't encounter plateaus in ur whole track career

Flats until they are about to start sprinting/accelerating ...
Do you recommend sprinting after doing these drills or doing these will be good enough. COVID restrictions has made it tough to go out and do track work.
It depends on what you are doing for a workout. You can just work on these, or you could do a workout that involves sprinting, tempo/form running, etc.
@@coachwelly Yeah. I usually do fartlek, 100-200m repetition or just 80m,60m sprints.
hello I am shivaprasad my record in 13y old
100 in 12 s
200 in 23s

That's pretty good. Keep it up.
How tf your 100 12 but your 200 23 THATS crazy for 13

@@coachwelly coach I hope I can have some tips for my 10 year old sprinter 😆
@@sogsog6321 which types of tips do you need?
@@coachwelly just want to know the best training for a young kid. Please. Tried this video though
@@coachwelly last year his speed was great but this year he's slowing down
do you need to do any dynamic stretching before these drills or can you go right into them?
Definitely need to dynamic stretch.
@@coachwelly alright thanks
I am a soccer player and want improve my speed.. But its difficult.
I have soccer training 3x per week and 1 game.
I heard you should atleast do 3 days of sprints and what about weight training?
Any tips? Rest days?
It depends on who you talk to. I recommend you don't do max velocity sprints 3 days a week, that would be a lot on your body. 2 max, and weight training you can execute 3 x a week. I have trained a few soccer athletes myself. You guys are the easiest to change, because you typically don't use your arms or lift your knees when running during soccer games.
First tip:
DONT SAY "SOCCER"
THE ANCIENT SPIRITS OF FOOTBALL SLOW YOUR PROGRESS DOWN. JUST DO NOT SAY SOCCER EVER AGAIN
3 days a week? Your pretty lazy. 5 days a week would be better especially for your age. And since you play soccer, most of your training should be learning how to play smarter rather than dumber.
Just quit

Well it is sometging similar (sakker) in a lot of languages....plus, it is a word Americans and Canadians learned from Brits, who invented it....
Hey I am a freshman 100m, 4x100m, long jump, and triple jumper do these drills also apply for power off the block in jumps?
As far as you accelerating down the runway, yes they do help. But there are no blocks in the jump events.
I was meaning when you jump off the block into the pit
You have to learn the penultimate step. Also a lot of plyometrics.
Ok thank you!!
Do you have any video I can see. There could be several reasons.
If I just train for explosiveness, not track and field, which starting is better?
Track and field teaches you to be explosive as well. You just have to have someone that knows what they aRe doing, coaching you.
@@coachwelly I just watched it. Thanks! Subscribe d.
How much and what type of weight lifting/exercise should I be doing? I’m new to sprinting and I really want to work hard to get fast. Just don’t know how to do it because I need to be doing it correct
Deadlift, squat lunges, core work, push ups, pull ups, plyometric.
So will this help me in the 400? because im strong and can sprint the whole thing, but since I’m not quick I can’t break a minute yet.
Edit: I’m not sure if that made since, but I tried my best to explain it.
Oh course it will. 400 runners also need to be able to accelerate.
How many times per week do you suggest I do these? I'm thinking of doing more things outside of track sessions since my times are slow and that bugs me (12.5, 26.1 - I'm 14 and it's my first season)
Just keep working. It's only your first year. 1-2 times a week is good.
Hey man great vid. Is 1 speed day, 2 acc. Days, 2 speed endurance days in a week good for an off season?
Thank you, and in a nut shell that is about right.
@@coachwelly thanks a lot for the answer brother.

hey coach, what sprint shoes do you recommend? I'm a soccer ref but we are not allowed to used spike shoes for our sprint tests.
It's honestly what ever the lightest most comfortable shoes for your feet are. You may have to try on several to get a feel
@@coachwelly Coach, I tried some which are garbage. I'm asking you because you are the one here with experience. What brand and model?
@@daviddonayre2654 in my opinion, Nike Pegasus are the best. At least for my type of foot.

I need beginner help I started in indoor track this summer
Meaning starting as a brand new track athlete?
@@coachwelly yea
Which shoe I wear for this please explain
You can wear a running shoe. Whatever your preference is.
Sir how to use spike shoes? Are these drill is good for 400m and 800m?
For spikes you simply put them on like shoes. They are to help you run faster. Also, these drills are for any individual in any event, and/or sport that needs to learn how to accelerate.
@@coachwelly tq sir.
Your call.
Micheal Wellington I see. Thank you for quick reply
Micheal Wellington ohh yahh abt plateaus when and why do they happen some athletes?? how do u overcome or avoid it to make sure u don't encounter plateaus in ur whole track career
I know this is old but do you have any higher top speed drills because i have a good start but people tend to pass me about 50 meters in because they have higher top speed.
Look at the maximum velocity video
how many times a week ?
is this effective to increase my speed?
how many reps and sets?
Puro kayo ganyan Yun lang alam mo 1-2 x a week. You decide based on what your purpose is.
Do you have any videos on hurdle workouts or drills? I run a 16.5 for the 110
Yes sir. Go to the track and field education and I have two hurdle videos. I have an advanced on coming soon.
i'm a rugby player not a track athlete, can this still help me??
Of course. ANy sport where sprinting and acceleration are involved, this will help.
So are these drills are like warm ups+ an increase in accelerating overtime?
Yes. They can be done as a warm, or used as an entire focus of a practice session.
Micheal Wellington okay thank you very much
My pleasure.
Thank you for doing these

which one is faster? running 100m straight line vs "s" shaped line 100m like at the park.
