So many professors here… It is sunny and after two days the road will be dry. If you leave it without cleaning every day will melt a little bit and every nine will freeze like glass maybe for a week or more.
I see a lot of people complaining and arguing. I think it really depends on where you live. I live in the southwest (USA). It usually warms up in the daytime above freezing. If you get the snow off quickly the rest will melt off and be gone within hours or a day. I understand that would not work in other areas or the U.S., but here it works just fine. 😊
I’m from up north. All roads in the winter are ice roads. Only people who want to waste money salt them or drive cars because they don’t think about seasonal changes.
@@scooterp7009 I live near the 36th parallel and we get snow, it just doesn't hang around long. Our long, steep driveway is mostly gravel and shale, and on a south-facing hill, and is in the sun on cloudless days. When we get a few inches of snow, I can ignore the driveway and it stays snow-covered for several days, depending on the temps. It melts off at the same speed as the lawn. Unless we drive on it, then we pack the snow and it becomes icy. This lasts for sometimes days after the snow on the grass has melted. But, instead of driving on it, I can use a backpack blower if the snow is dry, or a snow shovel to remove most of it when it's wet. Bear in mind the driveway is rocky, and can't be scraped clean. But by removing most of the snow early in the morning, the sun beats down on it during the day, and it is usually clear and dry by mid afternoon. Even when the grass remains snowy for a few more days, our driveway is clear. What we watched in the video reminded me of when I removed the top layer of snow early, allowing the sun to do it's thing, maybe that's what was happening here? It was just a thought.
German here. My Catholic grandfather did the same in About 1920 to 1930. Couple of years ago I constructed and build a 3 m (10 ft.) V-snowplow for the front 3-point-hitch of our 170 HP tractor with 3 rollers, hydraulically extendable (like a tiny landing gear) for additional gravel road use of the snow plow. Works great up to 60 cm (2 ft) of snow. 😎 Amish, you can't stop the progress by living in the past. 😉
Looks to be about 6 in. high so would prob work fine for much more than that considering you’re going to be making another pass to get back to your house.
Depends on the angle of attack of the cutting edge, that'll determine if it will tend to bite in or glide over the snow. That and weight, cant really tell from the vid.
I’m born and raised in the desert. That is funny looking sand. Folks are calling it “snow”. I thought I’d seen all the kinds of sand. But you do learn something new every day.
They had this in our area many years ago. For some reason they don't use it any more and have small narrow trucks with a snow plow at the front for smaller paths and regular big snow plow trucks for the streets. Well, I see some possible reasons in the comments. ... All right, I think, when it works fine and you have it, then use it! Why not. Make your roads so that you can use it (rather flat without obstacles) and you are OK with some powdery snow and this tool.
Years ago I took one of those 8’ folding tables, that folded up in the middle. Unfolded it in a V, attached a 2x6 both top and bottom and one in the middle, chained middle one to my bumper and put two eye bolts and ran cable from my winch so I could raise and lower it. It worked for two seasons until the table broke in half. 😅
I grew up in East Tennessee, in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. Our winters were a crap shoot, but sometimes we'd get a good, legitimate snow. Well, we had someone in the valley who'd get his tractor and grader blade and clear ONE... SINGLE... PATH... down the middle of the road, and nothing more. Twas all great and gravy... until you met someone going the other way! Driveways would get piled up, and you still needed (or at least had an easier time with) 4‐wheel drive vehicles. I always planned, were I to move back there or somewhere similar, to do the same, but make two passes and clear both lanes. Some like to argue that it doesn't help, but when the storm passes and the sun comes out, it leaves the sun less to melt off the street.
I've been doing this for years. I have three of these mobile home bolt on tongues. Cheap and super easier on your rig. No torn up front suspension or expensive hydraulics. I just back to in and grab the chain. Drop it on the hutch ball and return it to it's spot. A real no brainer. Haha Dandahermit ( up in the mountains
Growing up we had a Mile long driveway that had to get graveled, my stepdad and my brother and I didn’t want to rent machinery to spread the gravel out or do it by hand. So we grabbed a 8x10 foot section of regular metal fencing (poles and all) set it down and put some cinder blocks on top, attached it to our lawn mower with chains and had that gravel spread out and done so quickly.
That’s how old plow looks with heavy block on top to keep it down and horses to pull that thing at the time I was 8years old and sitting on the plow or the horse thank u for bringing back memories
Weld 8" road to the top pointing straight up. Maybe 3 or 5 in total on each end and in the middle and maybe two more between those three locations. For weights
we made similar contraptions to groom snowmobile trails. You could never keep up with the snow around here if you were trying to clear anything. they just ride on top of the snow and smooth it out.
There are a lot of " experts" in this comment section crying like this will leave ice. But the blade is doing a fine job for the conditions plus he will probably drag it back Home. The sun will melt off what is left when conditions improve.
@@Unmannedair I disagree. If you take some screen shots and examine them closely you will see brackets for cross members and other shapes that are unlike parking curbs. Seems it would be perfect for a very long driveway but storing, hooking and unhooking, and turning around might be a hassle, and backing up would obviously be impossible. Another issue would be creating a snow burm on both sides of the road instead of only the leeward side so as not to cause excess accumulation on the road. Plus you’ll still need something else to plow around the house, barn, courtyard, etc., so I’d prob stick with my 3 seat Polaris Ranger 1000 with a 6ft. poly blade and just switch the angle on the return trip to push everything leeward and still only be making 1 out and back pass.
Oh my God!!! This guy is a freaking genius. You know how much of a pain in the butt it is to put my snow plow on the front of my truck to plow the road for my neighbors.
