- Alfa Romeo 8C - is this supercar the coolest V8 in the world? I certainly think so!
As one of the most interesting and exciting parts of Alfa Romeo racing history, the Quadrifoglio badge has a special meaning. As exciting as revisiting the first Alfa is, it's just as exciting to look back at some of the great cars Alfa Romeo has built in its 100-plus-year history. Recent models, such as the Giulia Quadrifoglio, 4C and 8C, show us Alfa's racing pedigree, and while some of the previous cars were flawed, the Alfa brand showcased some of the most enthusiastic examples of automotive engineering ever. Alfa Romeo cars rival perhaps the most famous brands in the whole of Italy and the world, and in Alfa Romeo's racing history, Enzo Ferrari personally led the Alfa Romeo racing team for about a decade.
As one of the world's most historic manufacturers, Alfa Romeo has managed to create outstanding automotive art and some of the finest examples of roadsters and sports cars we've ever seen. The former Top Gear contestant and current Grand Tour trio have famously stated that you can never become a true car fanatic until you own at least one Alfa Romeo, which is one of the biggest seals of approval that any automotive enthusiast can aspire to. BEFORE the BBC decided to part ways with the hosts of one of its most successful TV shows of all time, the likes of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May often pointed out to Top Gear that to be a proper "petrol head" you have to own an Alfa Romeo. " Owning the gorgeous Alfa Romeo 8C is unfortunately only for those with very deep pockets, as this V8 supercar costs upwards of £250,000 these days!
The 8C 2300 Le Mans on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum was purchased by Sir Henry Birkin in 1931 for racing use, but it is not the car that Birkin and Howe drove to win the 1931 24 Hours of Le Mans. participate in sports car racing in general and in the Mille Miglia in particular. There were two versions of the 8C: a coupe (Competizione) and a roadster (Spider).
In 2004, Alfa Romeo took the name 8C for a V8-powered concept car that began production in 2007, the 8C Competizione. Vittorio Jano's 8-cylinder inline engine was Alfa Romeo's main racing engine from its introduction in 1931 until its retirement in 1939. P2 with a common crankcase and four plated steel twin cylinder blocks that won the first ever World Championship in 1925. -local racing car.

Thoroughly enjoyed this , great to watch a car video with a carefully put together script . No waffle . That 8C wow , stunning in every way . The detail under the bonnet and interior design , gorgeous . Many thanks Alfa nut !
Thanks a lot for watching Leo - it took a while to get this released!
Top vid..very slick Chris..thanks!
Thanks for watching Mark, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
As portuguese i must ask : how dare you to compare CR7 with a donkey ?
As the 8C, man, what a beauty ! The looks, the noise, the interior, the emotion...
You almost put a tear in my eyes, and so did Clarkson a few years ago. The 8C may not be the best car in the world, but just look at it ! Will we ever see such a piece of art in a near future ? Or ever again ? Thank you so very much for those 13 minutes.
Thanks Carlos! Sorry about Cristiano - just a joke 😜
Yes I think claiming that electric cars are more environmentally friendly is delusional at worst, and at best it's just creative accounting; no emissions when you turn the key, but massive costs to the planet in their production. I'd feel much better driving a classic Alfa Romeo for the next 60 years, then buying some new microwave car every 4 years.
Another great video, once again it's good to have you back on RUclips.
Agreed, recycling / upgrading existing cars seems much more logical but then “environmental” manufacturers aren’t really interested in the environment are they? $$$$
I agree with you 100% Jethro. I am planning to drive my classic Alfa Romeos until I kick the bucket. And not feel guilty one little bit. I am actually enjoying cars like my Giulia 1300 Super more and more every year as an antidote to modern machinery and politics.
Love the 8c. Good to have you back!
Cheers Richard! 👍🏻
Chris, that was epic. Stunning. Reminiscent - and complementary to - the brilliant TG piece on the Aston a few years back.
Thank you
Thanks for watching Steven - yes I did have that video in mind when I made this - its a very emotive topic for me, the idea of amazing engines like this being banned 😢
Great video Mr Nut! The 8C sounds fantastic.
Thanks for watching Mr Phil!
I've seen both a red and black in the flesh. Unfortunately, their appearance deteriorates a lot if they are not immaculate !
Thank you Chris, for licking this one clean, before filming.
It's great to have you back !
It was my Pleasure Paul - Joe had to hose me down to stop me slurping! 🤣
Great video Chris.. And wow!! What a car 😍 I'm not jealous one bit, that you got to drive a 8C 😂!
Cheers Russell - It was pretty awesome to be honest, even through some awful august holiday traffic!
Thanks for great videos
Hi Orwa, thanks to you for watching my videos, it is much appreciated!
That must of been a dream come true driving a 8C and one of the last true great sports cars. Thank you for sharing your experience. 😀
Hi Craig, thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed it, I certainly did!
Stunning car. I remember when these came out. Top guy for letting you drive it.
Hi Phil, yes agreed - Joe is a cool guy and a genuine petrol head!
Truly enjoyed it, especially the analysis in the later part of the video!
Thanks a lot for watching - I think the electric car issue needs to be discussed publicly, as I don’t believe it is the way forward. Hydrogen is a better solution for instance.
@@TheAlfaNut Most definitely, couldn't agree more! Although admittedly there might be a little bias for us petrol enthusiasts, when you look into it it's pretty clear that electric cars are far from green and the jury is out to figure out if, in the long term, they are actually any better than ICE vehicles. Not only batteries and electric motors use all sorts of rare (often toxic) materials, but they are also much harder to recycle (particularly batteries) than a good old aluminium or cast iron engine block. Which is why the used cars market is going ballistic - anyone who knows that well built, durable ICE cars can last close to forever is on the hunt for the good ones to keep while the world is fooled once again into the next big marketing thing!
The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is a work of art. A dream car. Alfa Romeo design is always special, and so much better than any competitor.
I agree with you about EVs: they are green apparently, but they are not. Heavy cars, not so green to produce and to recycle.
Thanks for watching Stanislas - yes, the EV market is not what it claims to be…
I totally agree with you.
Cheers Nicola
You have done a great job !
Thanks a lot for watching mate, appreciate your support. I'm releasing another new vid tomorrow morning. :0)
Thank you, that was brilliant!
Hi Chrissey, thanks a lot for watching - appreciate your support! 👍🏻
Back with a bang Chris, you lucky man getting behind the wheel of that beauty.
Shame we'll all be driving around in batteries on wheels in the not too distant future.Yes 0-60 in 1.9 seconds in a Tesla S plaid is fun but doesnt compare to the visual and acoustic heaven of the 8C.
Great video,Cuore Sportivo siempre!
Hi Rob, thanks for watching mate and for the kind words! Yes it was a good day and such an awesome car. I'm dropping another new video tomorrow morning - featuring the slightly less expensive but still awesome 156 V6!
I was following an 8C around part of the AROC Cotswold Giro Panoramica in 2019, sounds amazing.
Thanks for watching - it's certainly a memorable noise!
If I had the funds I'd buy an 8c in a heartbeat. On the subject of electric cars; I think myself, alongside a lot of people, can say they are a lot kinder to the environment as I've never purchased a brand new car. So all my cars are recycled.
Thanks for watching Mikey - me too in fact, I’ve never bought a new car either!
There was one for sale for $300K last year at an exotic car dealer near my home in Cleveland, Ohio (between New York City and Chicago). I drove by to gawk, but it was already gone!
Wonderful stuff Chris - well worth the wait. Now if you can convince lucky supercars to take her on track - that would be great!
He does - often!! Hoping to tap him up for more videos 😉
This car is a masterpiece , proud to be italian and alfista .
Hi Lorenzo, thanks for watching! I agree 👍🏻🇮🇹🔥
When i first saw it in Amsterdam auto rai I just stared at it ... almost for half an hour and than remembering I had a camera with me. I could make a picture...
Hi Vincent, it certainly is a beautiful thing! 😍
I’m another that if funds were mine an 8c, 147 gta, gulia quad would be in my Alfa only garage, but as I’ve a cracking mito now I content myself with the 8c hints it contains. Love to see more on the very modded Mitos of this land 🙏
Thanks for watching mate, hoping to do a Mito feature soo, as well as the Giulietta too 👍🏻
Two words Perfetto and Bellissimo
Thanks for watching jason - I couldn’t agree more! 😍
Fab motor Chris, one of my favs....even makes the Monty look a bit in the shade! Definitely not going to be seeing cars like that again in the future..... O sole mio indeed...
Hi Alex, yes me too - such a great noise as well. I may have to build myself a replica! 😂
Lovely shot video. Aside from the claims about electric cars, It was nice.
You don’t agree that electric cars “green” credentials are not all they are claimed to be?
@@TheAlfaNut well of course nothing is all it claims to be. But the paper I posted elsewhere in this thread from the Union of concerned scientists on the subject made it clear electric cars on balance is far better then ICE cars. I just think the data needs to be acknowledged.
Wish I had one. Really should do the lottery more often!
Yeah me too James - thanks for watching!
Just a dream I’d like to wake up with one on the driveway cheers Al
Thanks for watching mate - me too!
Beautiful
Thanks for watching Paolo. 🙂🍀👍🏻
Fabulous video of a fabulous car, both in looks and sound. And yes, it would take a heartbeat to say yes to driving one.
As for fuel, what would bother me is that all these combustion engines will need something to run on once fossil fuels run out. I wonder what that would be.
I have read some credible reports that Fossil fuels will not actually run out - oil is not a finite resource, it is being constantly replaced! If that turns out to be incorrect, then biofuels are easy to make and can replace petrol. 👍🏻
Stylistically, these remind me so much of the 33 Stradale.
Yes, me too - there is something very similar about the “coke bottle” shape and the blunt rear end. The 33 Stradale is my other all time fave Alfa!
Is it LFA?! So cool!
Yes - he has 2 x LFA’s! One is a daily driver, the other has only a few km’s and is brand new! 😍
@@TheAlfaNut Oh no! Crazy!
I couldn't agree more with your analysis on “green” cars. Really tough days for us petrolheads to come. For sure I can say I’ll use my Alfa GT Busso until I get imprisoned. What an awesome car the 8C, by the way.
Thanks for watching Victor, the car community must make its own decisions and if we refuse to buy electric vehicles and continue to use our petrol cars, what will they do then? 😉
@@TheAlfaNut I guess their plan is wait until our petrol car dies....or finally ban the use of internal combustion engines. But agree with you, we must do something, at least make them hear our disappointed voices! Thanks for your videos, really love them. Basically is yours and Neil's at Italia Autos fault that I ended up with a Busso, and I'm so grateful for that! ;-) (edited to add Jack from Number27 as another guilty boy responsible for me buying the busso 😉)
You are very welcome! 😂. Any Busso engined Alfa is going to be great - I have 3 now!
If you could have only one car which alfa would it be
The 8C spider 😎
An unmolested mark 1 156 2.0TS. Pepper pot alloys, no skirts, wooden steering wheel or spoiler. Silver with grey Momo leather.
Alfasud, rosso, first series.
I that would be Alfa GT V6! Or 4C, or 8C or...😍❤️🥰 All petrol 1.7T and V6 Alfa's!
It would be this one!! ❤️
Well said mate, all the way through.
Cheers Ryan - I think it needed to be said that the electric car “green” myth is a lie!
best looking car ever.
Agreed! 🙂👍🏻🇮🇹
and best sounding
So Chile is classed under "Third World Countries"? Right, thanks for this cutting edge analysis.
Yes I have already been pulled up for my mistake by a couple of people in Chile! I meant no disrespect to Chile, its just one of the locations for this type of mining.
A great car born in Modena in Ferrari-Maserati but with the alfa logo glued on it. Nothing that belongs to alfaromeo on that car ... luckily for that car!
Slightly harsh!! :0))
::D ...btw I want to be realistic about how this car was born, totally in the hands of the technical staff of the time in the Ferrari-Maserati technological center in Modena and that someone wanted to make it by branding it alfaromeo only for marketing reasons in 2003 decided in Turin where the strength of alfaromeo men was a lot strong in Fiat group of that time. More strong also than Mr Montezemolo, at that time president of Ferrari, who did not want to do 8C with that brand...
Centro Stile Alfa Romeo were supposed to have designed the body? Are you saying that isn't true?
@@TheAlfaNut No, You're right, design was created in centro Stile. But only this..
What a lovely car! We are just being fed a pack of lies about electric cars. They are not the long term answer. JCB are investing heavily in hydrogen and Porsche synthetic fuels. It will be interesting to see where we are in 10 years time..
Absolutely - hydrogen is a much more complete & cheaper solution and if we can develop synthetic fuels at reasonable prices then whats the problem!
The sound of the 8 cylinders traded for a soulless whine of an electric car . Just not the same 😕
Agreed Wes - it's a poor trade!
I really don’t care about electric cars. I only want to live with a car like this for the rest of my life. Great video Chris 👍
Thanks for watching Nikolas - I appreciate the support. 🙂👍🏻🍀
Joe has the 2 best sounding cars imo
Hi Paul, thanks for watching - one is obviously the 8C but is your other choice the LFA?
@@TheAlfaNut yup! But if i had to choose i would take the 8c every single day, but maybe the spyder. Because one thing you didn’t talk about is that the exhaust system on the spyder is better as well as some other little suff. Even tho i would change as soon as i get it lol. But really good video I could feel the passion in you
Thanks Paul - the Spyder isn’t as good looking as the coupe imo but I wouldn’t “kick one out of bed” as the saying goes! 😂
@@TheAlfaNut haha yes me neither! But you’re right the coupe looks better, but i saw a video from a french youtuber called worldsupercar and they’re driving on the mountains roads near Monaco and it just sounds so good. And what i love about this car is that it’s made for cruising. No need to go fast to enjoy it!
So sad that everyone in power is shoving us down this road. What about greener fuels, such as F1 are developing? Or Hydrogen cell?
I agree - Hydrogen cars are similar to produce to petrol cars, so less impact
Wow just wow !!!!! Jealous xx
Thanks for watching Susan, almost a gorgeous as the Countessa! X
An amazing video!!! I loved the part for the environmental bullshit they are trying to sell us.
We should actually wake up and do something about it but that's a theme for another place.
Anyway congrats for bringing that up and for the great video!!!
Hi mate, thanks a lot for watching - I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I had to say that stuff in a video because people seem to be accepting what they are being told and it is all lies!!
@@TheAlfaNut Yes exactly and it's good you pointed that out!
Alfa Romeo carś are good carś in the world. Excusem me for my bad English.
Thank you Peter! Your English is good! 👍🏻 Where are you from?
@@TheAlfaNut I m from Czech republic from Pilsen and I m maried with my wife and we have three son´s. And where are you from?
Hi Petr, very nice - I have visited Prague, very beautiful city. I live near Exeter in Devon (South West England) also married with 2 sons. 🙂 My Wifes family is from Vienna (Wien)
Thanks for this movie . You have the passion for Alfa . For me only one car excist. Thats the car with a real Soul. Only Alfisti know this.
Hi Jorg, thanks for your kind words and for watching. I agree with you completely!
@@TheAlfaNut you very welcome
Amazing car and a sad reality :(
Thanks for watching Georgi
I have just a 147 and I enjoy driving it every day. I can only imagine how good the 8C feels a dream on wheels. I am an Alfa fan and enjoy The Alfa Nut videos. Thanks for been there man!
@Scott Taylor unfortunately not.
I think you're right. If these types of cars aren't the last then we are very close to the last. They're just too politically incorrect and will be shunned like the un-vaxed with no good reason.
Thanks for watching Dora and for your comments. You are spot on of course - I have not had the “Quackcine” and have no intention of doing so!
@@TheAlfaNut As recently as two weeks ago they've discovered Cobra Venom in the clot shot. Explains all the nervous system, heart issues and blood clotting issues. BigPharma is vial.
I just wanteed to point oout that Chile is not 3rd world country. It is the richest country in south america.
Hi there, yes of course, I meant no disrespect to Chile - I was just pointing out that the mining companies spoil land and ruin communities in parts of the world that they don’t care about 😢
Are you serious?? List with the best Alfa romeo ever without Alfa 156???? Maybe you must forgot that Alfa romeo was a dead company until 156 was on the market. Your video for me is uncompleted without ALFA ROMEO 156
I have a 1998 Alfa 156 V6 and I agree with you! Maybe you didn’t see my video about how the 156 was the forgotten saviour of Alfa Romeo? 😎
Alfa Romeo 156 - The Forgotten Masterpiece!

Yes i haven't seen your video about the 156 that's why i wrote my complaint about it. 👍By the way we have the same car 1998 GTA 3.2 V6 BUSSO Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷 🇬🇷
@@user-ls4rh2sw8n congratulations! Thats a great car, mine is the 2.5 engine.
@@TheAlfaNut Thank you very much, and yours after the restoration will be perfect 👌
Chile a 3rd world country?????!!!! I strongly recommend you to visit Chile.....thats the least I can say....
Sorry Pablo, I didn’t mean any offence to Chile - just trying to make the point that certain countries are exploited by international manufacturers. I would love to visit Chile. 👍🏻
@@TheAlfaNut Don't worry at all, the video is great otherwise, thanks, but Chile is a great great place with very good people , believe me.
The body design is a copy of the 2004 and 2005 Mercedes-Benz slk line...what a lack of creativity and levity!!!
Perhaps you should see an optician! 🤣
@@TheAlfaNut yes...donkey...kkk
Nope. The 33 Stradale is the coolest V8, next is Fiat 8V Supersonic.
Good point - the old 33 Stradale is in my top 5 all time favourite cars, although I don’t agree about the Supersonic, even though a 2 litre V8 is a fantastic thing!
