    The voting scene is possibly the best scene in the movie in terms of character development. Everyone remembers the mayor as a stupid greedy asshole, but this scene actually confirms that he had the town's best interests at heart the whole time, and that he was capable of learning from his mistakes.

    • @aether13x69
      @aether13x69 2 года назад +8

      But he didn't. He tells Brody not to push it this time. Um hello he was right last time. And now you refuse to believe him again. You consistently put the public in danger because he or the council only see what they wanna see. The voting scene is nice but he treats Brody like he's some crazy asshole.
      If I had a son out there sailing with friends, or people I loved in the sater all the time I'd, I'd be more inclined to agree with the protective Sheriff who has hindsight, experience and knowledge from the previous time. Even with good intentions, the end result is the same. Destroy the one man willing to do something.

      I agree. The Mayor was looking put for the towns best interests. He was the one who gave Brody "Man of the year." Plus it would be hard to believe 2 "Rogue sharks" would stake a claim. (Obviously the rogue theory has been disproven)

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon Год назад +4

      I think if Brody had come to him with the same amount of evidence there had been the first time, Vaughan would have believed him. Remember, it was Vaughan who called in Collin Wilcox's Elkins character because he was concerned about the killer whale with the bites in it, but Elkins refused to confirm it was a shark nearby that did it, and that it was possible that the wounds were inflicted far out to sea. In that case, the "expert" hasn't given enough to indicate there's a local threat so that's why he thinks Brody may be giving into panic. Perhaps if he'd told Brody, "Martin give me what you had last time, and I'll believe it!" that would have brought out that point better.

    I don't know why they deleted the scene where the mayor had the back of Chief Brody. Both are excellent claustrophobic scenes where humans are cornered to make split second decisions. The helicopter was no different except the pilot was upsidedown and submerged with no gear - making an attack more horrifying and hard to escape.

If you noticed, no matter how people died, there was minimal blood compared to the first film. Jaws 2 is a movie that has a better-than-it-should reputation solely because of the increasingly worse quality of the following two sequels. I remember leaving the theatre thinking the movie was horrendous; a basic remake of the original substituting a large group of annoying teenagers in place of the chemistry between Shaw, Scheider and Dreyfuss. All it took was a roaring, exploding shark coming after Ellen Brody and a damp Michael Caine to make me look more favorably upon Jaws 2.
    My bitching aside, I appreciate you posting the deleted scenes for this movie. It's fascinating to see what bits of information were left on the cutting room floor. Thank you.

    • @geordischmidt
      @geordischmidt 3 года назад +3

      Yes, this is true. I saw the movie the first week it came out. The shark comes up in a scene from Sean's POV and swallows Marge right up to her head. My stepsisters freaked out but I thought the shark looked a bit too fake in the scene, so I don't miss it.
      The original distributions of the movie also showed the underwater scene with the helicopter but I never liked that scene as the shark was way too big to get inside the copter and, on the surface, the pontoon floats did not move. That shark should have pushed the helicopter all over the place, trying to get at the pilot.

    The scenes with the weasly developer guy hitting on Mrs. Brody (asking to dance with her, then calling her "honey" and putting his hands all over her in the ticket scene)... those should've been left in. The guy is already unlikeable, but those scenes show that he might have an alternative motive for giving Brody a hard time. It basically just makes him even MORE unlikeable and, combined with the voting scene, singles him out as the main problem on the council.

    Leaving the voting scene out of the theatrical cut was a sin. Earlier we see Vaughn telling Brody not to press it this time. But, as time goes on, perhaps Vaughn has reason to believe Brody because of the past. His character would have come full circle leaving that scene in. The fate of the helicopter pilot, while not pivotal, would have been good to see as well.
