Something that makes Jaws: The Revenge an even more sad and depressing movie: The child actress who plays Ellen Brody's grandaughter was murdered, along with her mother, by her father roughly a year after the film was released. Jaws 2 could not match the classic that was Jaws, but it is a good sequel. The shark attacks are well staged, with some good setpieces and Roy Scheider giving a good performance, being more paranoid and then going to rescue his kids, the mayor has a good redeeming moment (being the one to vote against the dismissal of Brody - a deleted scene that should have been left in). One of the problems is that it is more tame (almost no blood and deleted death scenes to obtain a PG rating), but it is watchable and well made.
Jaws 3D had great potential to be a fun sequel with the possibilty of great setpieces in the new park setting. In fact the script is not bad (better than those of 2 and 4), but the direction is lackluster failing to genereate tension in the attacks and the effetcs were rushed and bad. But the 3d is in fact very good (and the bluray in 3d worth watching).
Jaws The Revenge had better direction than 3, with some effective sequences (Sean's death, the chase in the sunken ship and the attack on the banana boat) but the story is too absurd. The original ending was better (with the shark impaled instead of exploding).

I absolutely hate all three of the sequels but man you acted like there wasn’t a single thing that worked in them which is insane to me. There are three small things that I really liked about them (which if I can only find three small things that I thought were good about them then that alone should effectively show how bad these sequels are). Firstly as someone with PTSD I loved what they did with Chief Brody in Jaws 2. For a film from 1978 it’s kind of shocking that this was done so well. His elevated fear of water, the beach shooting scene, his irrationality about this shark being out for revenge even though the new shark turning up was just a really unlucky coincidence, etc. It’s great. And wow is it hard to watch the aforementioned beach shooting scene. Seeing how afraid everyone is of him really shows how people reacted to PTSD then and sadly still do now. Secondly I love that in Jaws 4 Mrs. Kintner from the first film is seen as one the women who was there to comfort Ellen after Sean was killed. She went from hating Ellen’s husband and blaming him for her son’s death to realizing it wasn’t his fault and being a friend to Ellen after she lost her son to a shark attack like she had years prior. It was touching. I just wish it was expanded upon more than it was. And finally the way they handled Ellen’s reaction to her son’s death. It was heartbreaking. In such a bad and campy film it’s pretty incredible that this was done so well (most of which is probably due to Lorraine Gary’s stellar performance). As for Jaws 3? Yeah there’s not a single thing I like about that film. It’s just horrendous in its entirety.

I’ve always enjoyed JAWS 2 because you can see that they TRIED to make a good sequel. The problem is that the first is such a masterpiece it was going to be impossible to do. That’s why I think that JAWS 2 is a step above the bad monster movies (BMM’s) of the 70’s. In modern terms, 2 steps above something like Sharknado or those other Syfy monster movies.

The thought that his own childern could have been taken from him on that beach. You so rarely see a character act so human after being so greedy.

What is depressing about how routine 'Jaws 2' turned out is the sheer amount of hard work, thought and innovation that went into the physical production of the film. I saw an interview with director Jeannot Swarc (during the filming) in which he wonderfully articulated exactly how 'Jaws' had succeeded and how any sequel would be misguided to attempt to copy that. So no shortage of insight or knowledge and what we got was a by the numbers, padded and very flat film.

If I remember correctly didn't jaws 4 had different shark deaths depending on a version (one with that boat stick impalement causing a balloon like explosion and the other being just reused footage of jaws 1 shark death)? The shark psychic connection plot was funny, it reminded me of the dog flashbacks in Wes Craven's hills have eyes 2.

Even though all of the sequels sucked in different aspects, I like the fact that the crew gave the sharks names similar to the first in the sequels and gave them sort of lore to each other.
Like the second shark in Jaws 2, at first both models of it were called Harold and Fidel (after two of the productions lawyers in similar fashion to Bruce being named after Spielberg's) but since it was confirmed to be female and apparently supposed to be the lover to the shark from the first (according to the film's novelization) she was later nicknamed Brucette.
She was supposed to be seeking revenge against Brody for killing her lover in the first film.
The third shark in Jaws 3 - D is apparently supposed to be the daughter to the shark in the second movie.
Which would make its baby Brucette's grandkid.
She is referred to as Brucetta.
I also kinda felt bad for her (which is not something you want to do since she's supposed to be the villain) because trying to capture Great Whites to put in aquariums are an actual problem now, she just wanted to leave with her baby after these assholes captured her and her baby and put them in a glass box with nowhere to go to prevent their inevitable fate, she also had every right to get revenge after her baby's death was caused by those evil scientists.
The fourth shark in Jaws the Revenge is called Vengeance (by the fans since for some reason the crew didn't bother naming this one, reminiscent of how much care was put into the film itself) this shark is actually male and is the son of Bruce and Brucette, he apparently cannibalized his siblings inside the womb fighting for dominance (which is wrong since that's behavior that is displayed by Sand Tiger sharks not Great Whites) and supposedly came out while Brucette was getting electrocuted in Jaws 2.
    Weird backstory I might say.
At least they didn't make him sympathetic in this film like the last one.
But in the novel version some weird ass voodoo curse was put on the shark just because of a petty grudge some guy had against the protagonist's sons which is kinda pushing a racist message and kinda ruins it once again since it makes Vengeance look sympathetic since he's killing against his will.
And that's all I have lol, honestly kinda interesting to see how gender balanced this franchise is considering we have two male sharks (not counting the baby) and two female sharks as antagonists.
    Kinda weird but welcome.

This narrator obviously was not even around when Jaws 2 came out so he doesn’t know the feeling of the time, the buzz in the air. The excitement this film caused. The Lines at the theater.
‘Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water’! That trailer was freaking scary!
The other two films, he’s right they were terrible. Shameless cash grabs. But, Jaws Two, fit the time period it was shown in. Today? Campy and Silly but in 1978, I couldn’t go into the ocean for years!

Jaws 2 is epic. If you dont like it you need your head examined. Your drowning in spielberg propaganda. The best movie is Jaws 2.

as unnecessary as jaws 2 might be, it is still a pretty solid flick on its own right, its still pretty entertaining and competently made, and its still the Mona Lisa picture when compared to other shark movies of its time.
jaws 3d is a guilty plesure im ashamed to admit.
jaws the revenge is an abomination
however jaws 5 (an unofficial sequel also known as cruel jaws) manages to be even worse in every way

The underwater (practical) shots of the animatronic shark in JAWS 3D still scare me. Something about the way it moves

As a kid my sister and would watch Jaws 3 over and over again. We had been to Sea World multiple times then and although the movie version looked nothing like the one in Orlando, it was still fun to imagine Jaws loose in the park.
