As inferior as Jaws 2 is, seeing Sean having to watch someone get killed right in front of him felt legit messed up though not on par with early death scenes from the first one.
The teens were doing nothing but screaming, freaking out, fighting with each other, and acting like idiots. The crew in Jaws 1 were more calm and daring, like they were battling Moby Dick without fear. Jaws 1 will always be the best.
Jaws 2 is essentially a slasher film with a shark and I kind of love it . 3D is a complete Guilty pleasure , as I watched it so much as a child . Let's just pretend revenge didn't happen 😂
Jaws 2 is in an unfortunate position. It is nowhere the masterpiece pt. 1 was, but it also gets unfairly maligned for the crime of how bad 3 and 4 were. If the franchise stopped with 2, I don't think most people would be trashing it. For me Jaws: 5 Jaws 2: 3 1/2 Jaws 3D: 2 Jaws The Revenge: 1 3D is technically a 1 but some of the camp value bumps it up to a 2 for me
It's not good at all-it's EXCELLENT. Best sequel EVER, a title it now shares with a film from 2003, but even that took 25 years to be made. In fact I saw it before the 1st and I rate it over the 1st as it's in my Top 5 fave movies of all time. 'Jaws' is excellent, but this is even more special.
@kyachdistent1301 agree with you, jaws 2 soundtrack was also killer on another note I believe aliens was better than the original. There are a few sequels out there that stand the test of time
The teenagers are super-annoying and are probably the main reason for people trashing the first sequel. But it has its moments... the rowboat attack, the photographic reveal of a shark's eye, Brody wading deeper and deeper into the ocean, where an unpleasant surprise is waiting. Those are all well-directed sequences.
Something that makes Jaws: The Revenge an even more sad and depressing movie: The child actress who plays Ellen Brody's grandaughter was murdered, along with her mother, by her father roughly a year after the film was released. Mankind's greatest threat isn't viruses or cancer or sharks. Mankind's greatest threat is mankind. We can be angels, yes. But we can also be the worst monsters you can imagine.
Another thing that makes mankind monsters at times is that we tend to treat animals cruel either by poaching or experimentation or logging, or even we are too greedy to the point we fight ourselves in war which only leads to destruction of property and environment and harm to many species.
One of my favorite movie quotes is from Terminator 2… when young John Connor asks the terminator “we’re not gonna make it are we? People, I mean.” And T2 replies, “it’s in your nature to destroy yourselves.” Truer words…..
Jaws 2 could not match the classic that was Jaws, but it is a good sequel. The shark attacks are well staged, with some good setpieces and Roy Scheider giving a good performance, being more paranoid and then going to rescue his kids, the mayor has a good redeeming moment (being the one to vote against the dismissal of Brody - a deleted scene that should have been left in). One of the problems is that it is more tame (almost no blood and deleted death scenes to obtain a PG rating), but it is watchable and well made. Jaws 3D had great potential to be a fun sequel with the possibilty of great setpieces in the new park setting. In fact the script is not bad (better than those of 2 and 4), but the direction is lackluster failing to genereate tension in the attacks and the effetcs were rushed and bad. But the 3d is in fact very good (and the bluray in 3d worth watching). Jaws The Revenge had better direction than 3, with some effective sequences (Sean's death, the chase in the sunken ship and the attack on the banana boat) but the story is too absurd. The original ending was better (with the shark impaled instead of exploding).
In reviews of Jaws 2, I keep hearing "The shark eats a helicopter." The shark does not EAT THE HELICOPTER!! The shark clamps its teeth on the helicopter and drags it under the water !
Yes it was a huge blockbuster and a big deal when it made its tv debut. A decent movie that suffers in comparison to the original. I'd give it a 6/10 or even 7/10 if I'm feeling generous. It has some genuinely good performances from Scheider, Gary and Hamilton, an excellent score and some nicely directed suspense sequences. The other two were terrible. Jaws 2 never was.
@@Cousinbiddy1 Well, if you base the quality of a movie on what others say and don't have your own opinion. So far, you're the only one on this thread trashing it. Maybe when it was originally released, everyone compared it to the first movie. I thought it was good. 3 and 4 were truly an awful waste of precious time.
Jaws 2 is a decent movie in terms of plot and pace. It's major detraction is that you already know what the shark looks like, so it's not as suspenseful. It's still a good movie, in my opinion (: 3 & 4 are goddamn jokes, though... Good video! 👍
Jaws 2 isn't actually that bad! It has some pretty hair raising moments! The scene of the shark POV chasing the waterskier is amazing! Marge's death is quite horrific despite no blood being shown! There's a great use of psychological horror (After Eddie is killed and Tina stares helplessly at the broken frame) the scuba divers exploring the reef just before the shark goes after the teens! And of course, pulling Mike Brody out of the water!! The audience reaction to that scene is pure screaming!!
If they stopped at jaws 2 they could’ve made a jaws revival movie now, like they did with too gun maverick, that would be epic and obviously only if they brought back Spielberg to direct it
They could still do that. This is the age of retcons and legacy sequels, so they could just ignore 2, 3, and 4, and make a direct sequel to the first... but really, they should leave well enough alone.
I remember my dad telling me about how he saw Jaws 3D in the cinema back in the day, and complaining about how cheesy it was! Specifically he remembered "the girl bursting out of the water with dolphins and going 'YES!'"
Jaws 2 isn't terrible. I really enjoyed it and I remember it mostly when I watched it as a kid back them. Definitely a worthy sequel. 3 was eh... but Jaws The Revenge was definitely bad 😅
I absolutely hate all three of the sequels but man you acted like there wasn’t a single thing that worked in them which is insane to me. There are three small things that I really liked about them (which if I can only find three small things that I thought were good about them then that alone should effectively show how bad these sequels are). Firstly as someone with PTSD I loved what they did with Chief Brody in Jaws 2. For a film from 1978 it’s kind of shocking that this was done so well. His elevated fear of water, the beach shooting scene, his irrationality about this shark being out for revenge even though the new shark turning up was just a really unlucky coincidence, etc. It’s great. And wow is it hard to watch the aforementioned beach shooting scene. Seeing how afraid everyone is of him really shows how people reacted to PTSD then and sadly still do now. Secondly I love that in Jaws 4 Mrs. Kintner from the first film is seen as one the women who was there to comfort Ellen after Sean was killed. She went from hating Ellen’s husband and blaming him for her son’s death to realizing it wasn’t his fault and being a friend to Ellen after she lost her son to a shark attack like she had years prior. It was touching. I just wish it was expanded upon more than it was. And finally the way they handled Ellen’s reaction to her son’s death. It was heartbreaking. In such a bad and campy film it’s pretty incredible that this was done so well (most of which is probably due to Lorraine Gary’s stellar performance). As for Jaws 3? Yeah there’s not a single thing I like about that film. It’s just horrendous in its entirety.
Well, you call the FOURTH movie (Revenge) stupid for having that plot point about the shark STALKING the Brody family, however I think that having the BRODY's in EVERY movie in the series was what was ALREADY stupid in the FIRST PLACE, especially in the third movie (where they're grown adults living in a completely different location). Therefore, I really don't hold THAT against that fourth film, cause it was almost like an EXPLANATION, of some kind, was NEEDED at THAT point. I mean, were audiences supposed to be just left thinking that this ONE PARTICULAR FAMILY just kept repeatedly running afoul of these ABNORMALLY BIG SHARKS by pure COINCIDENCE? . .. yeah, THAT's much more plausible!
What is depressing about how routine 'Jaws 2' turned out is the sheer amount of hard work, thought and innovation that went into the physical production of the film. I saw an interview with director Jeannot Swarc (during the filming) in which he wonderfully articulated exactly how 'Jaws' had succeeded and how any sequel would be misguided to attempt to copy that. So no shortage of insight or knowledge and what we got was a by the numbers, padded and very flat film.
I’ve always enjoyed JAWS 2 because you can see that they TRIED to make a good sequel. The problem is that the first is such a masterpiece it was going to be impossible to do. That’s why I think that JAWS 2 is a step above the bad monster movies (BMM’s) of the 70’s. In modern terms, 2 steps above something like Sharknado or those other Syfy monster movies. The less said about 3 and Revenge, the better. THAT’s solid BMM territory.
I enjoyed Jaws 2 the most growing up because I was able to relate more with the younger characters and the special effects were exceptional for those days.
Steven speilberg actually said he really liked jaws 2, only ussue was with casting the mayor. For one, as if he'd still be mayor after what he caused in first movie and then does the same thing in the 2nd AGAIN!!
I remember there a Pysch flashback and the kid was afraid to go into the water but his dad couldn't take it seriously because his fears stemmed not from watching Jaws but Jaws 4.
I loved Jaws Revenge as a kid, I got it on VHS for Christmas and watched it over and over. I had no idea until recently it’s considered one of the worst movies ever made, I enjoy it far more than 3D, I struggle to get through that one, Jaws 2 is good, but obviously none of them match the greatness of the original.
Jaws 3D made me have a panic attack aged 12 on a school trip at Seaworld in France 😂 I completely forgot about the film until i started walking through the underwater tunnel and a shark swan above me. Kaws 3D came flooding back to my memories lol
Every aquarium I have visited that has sharks, has scared the crap out of me because of that movie. Indoor swimming pools too but that is probably due more to Thunderball.😆
You forgot about Jaws 19 which was released in 2015! Anyway jaws 2 is just a meh movie. Jaws 3 and 4 are boring and stupid. I never knew about the wasted potential that is jaws 3, jaws 3 humans 0 sounds interesting. And Jaws 4 is also bland, boring and bad. If I remember correctly didn't jaws 4 had different shark deaths depending on a version (one with that boat stick impalement causing a balloon like explosion and the other being just reused footage of jaws 1 shark death)? The shark psychic connection plot was funny, it reminded me of the dog flashbacks in Wes Craven's hills have eyes 2.
I saw the original Jaws as a child - I mean elementary school-age child - and that film left me terrified... of the dark. I could go swimming or to the beach and not even remember the film, but I was afraid of the *dark* for a couple days after watching Jaws... I was a weird kid; especially considering I then went on to like Jaws and its horrible video game adaptations - and this was still in elementary school! *Weird* kid...
See, Alien did it for me regarding the dark, Jaws made me afraid of public swimming pools... I could wade in a river no problem... But for some stupid reason, my stupid kid brain associated a giant shark that was probably bigger than the swimming pools and would be super easy to spot in them if it somehow was in there.... As a valid threat in public swimming pools.... Granted, this was well before the pools were closed because of AIDS, but... Still.
I'm 20, and I actually never saw Jaws until just 2 years ago, and neither did my mom, crazy as it may sound. However, my dad saw on TV as a kid, when he and his family moved to America.
My favorite part of jaws 2 is when Matrin tells Mayor Vaughn they may have another shark problem and at the end of the coversation Vaughn tells Martin "don't push it this time" as though Martin had been wrong aboit the shark the first time!
Michael Caine on "Jaws The Revenge": "Somebody said to me, 'I saw that Jaws 4. It stinks,. I haven't seen it, but I have seen the house it bought my mother, and it's marvelous!”
All i remember of Jaws 4 was the banana scene which made me afraid of getting on a banana boat when I was a kid, awesome video my man, deserves more views!
There’s a Jaws boxset which contains Jaws 2, 3 and 4 but not the original. So you can marvel at the dumpster fire sequels but skip the amazing first movie. A real winner 👍
As an 80s kid, Jaws 2 was equally, if not more, terrifying than the original. I was legitimately traumatized by these films and I’m still afraid of the ocean.
That “money, money, money in my pocket” part had me rollin 😆🤣 because that perfectly represents how and why unnecessary sequels are made. Movies that have no way of justifying its existence other than money, money, money in my pocket. 🤣
J4 is the one they showed on tv the most growing up so the one I watched the most, outside of the original and always looked forward to watching it on TV, it wasn't until the recent internet years that I discovered it was considered bad.
Having just rewatched Jaws 2, the biggest issue with it is that absolutely no one is aware of the shark's existence, aside from Brody. In Jaws, events lead up to the third act of three men setting out to kill the shark. In Jaws 2, nothing leads up to the third act. It's just another Tuesday and some teenagers decided to go sailing.
“Except for Quinn cuz he’s dead” and them immediately cutting to the scene of Quinn in the sharks mouth getting dragged down made me laugh so fucking hard 😂😂😂
Dude, fantastic work. I love Jaws and you showed some information about the sequels I never knew. Also thank you for pointing out that scene with the mayor in the first one. I feel alot of folks miss that part. The mayor being so dismissive to whats happening only to come to his senses after watching people die. The thought that his own childern could have been taken from him on that beach. You so rarely see a character act so human after being so greedy.
I love the interview with Michael Caine when they ask him if he had ever seen Jaws the Revenge and he said no but I’ve seen the house it bought me. Ellen Brody is still on Amity Island for whatever reason. Her two sons who were doing good in part 3 are for some reason back with their mother in Amity. (I’m confused). They talk about their father who died of a heart attack. Ellen says it’s from the shark but what shark he killed the 2 that terrorized the island (I’m confused)

The Lines at the theater. ‘Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water’! That trailer was freaking scary! The other two films, he’s right they were terrible. Shameless cash grabs. But, Jaws Two, fit the time period it was shown in. Today? Campy and Silly but in 1978, I couldn’t go into the ocean for years!
I never saw the first Jaws, but I remember my mom having the book and the cover gave you a great perspective of how large the shark was and how small and vulnerable ppl were (it was a cover of the teenage girl skinny dipping and the shark coming straight up at her). But, I sure knew that music and then saw Jaws 3D in the theater. When you're a kid, its scary-its not now but I still love it. Jaws 4...let's all pretend it never happened.
Once I thought about alternative story for Jaws 2. It being just Brody coping with ptsd. He sees sharks everywhere because his trauma. Those few deaths were always just tragic accidents but his paranoid mind cooks this new shark and he obbsesses over it and movie is about him getting over the incident that still haunts him. Kinda like in Babadook. That monster is implied to be a stand in for grief (IIRC, correct me if I'm wrong).

If you thought Jaws 2 wasn’t scary, that’s because watching the original so many fucking times has made you numb. If you found yourself in the situation Eddie was in or Doug for that matter I bet your ass would be so scared you’d shit your pants!
Jaws has been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember, basically as soon as I learned how to use the VCR on my own as a toddler. I never felt the same way about any of the sequels. I don't even own the sequels, that's honestly how boring they are to me. The first one makes you feel things, but the sequels honestly just put me to sleep.
It was my favourite one when I was young. I wanted to see the shark a lot. Simple as that. It was only once I got older that I realised just how much of a masterpiece the first one was.
@8:50 See the French poster of the film behind director Jeannot Szwarc? The title is "Jaws - Part 2" and not "Jaws 2". Why? Jaws 2 felt like a true sequel. It started the horny teens trope and is a rehash. I didn't mind it.
SEAN IS ALIVE!
Lol
It started the teen slasher genre.
Yeah, there's never more than the 3 films, the good one (1st), the ok one (2nd) and the sorta goofy, but still kinda watchable one (3rd)
Jaws 2 is in an unfortunate position. It is nowhere the masterpiece pt. 1 was, but it also gets unfairly maligned for the crime of how bad 3 and 4 were. If the franchise stopped with 2, I don't think most people would be trashing it.
For me
Jaws: 5
Jaws 2: 3 1/2
Jaws 3D: 2
Jaws The Revenge: 1
3D is technically a 1 but some of the camp value bumps it up to a 2 for me
5??? Isn’t that a mediocre rating ??
@@Cousinbiddy1 Not if it's out of 5.
I think jaws 2 was actually a good movie, it doesn't deserve to be grouped in with 3 and 4
I agree they should have ended the jaws movie right there just like Terminator 2 .
@@keithwiggins299 completely agree
It's not good at all-it's EXCELLENT. Best sequel EVER, a title it now shares with a film from 2003, but even that took 25 years to be made. In fact I saw it before the 1st and I rate it over the 1st as it's in my Top 5 fave movies of all time. 'Jaws' is excellent, but this is even more special.
@kyachdistent1301 agree with you, jaws 2 soundtrack was also killer on another note I believe aliens was better than the original. There are a few sequels out there that stand the test of time
Without Jaws 2, there would be no teen slasher movies, it started an entire genre.
Really? That's so sad. Poor child😢
Another thing that makes mankind monsters at times is that we tend to treat animals cruel either by poaching or experimentation or logging, or even we are too greedy to the point we fight ourselves in war which only leads to destruction of property and environment and harm to many species.
How true ,
So, was the father apprehended?
One of my favorite movie quotes is from Terminator 2… when young John Connor asks the terminator “we’re not gonna make it are we? People, I mean.” And T2 replies, “it’s in your nature to destroy yourselves.”
Truer words…..
If all sequels were like jaws 2 we'd be living in sequel paradise
Yes it pops the float. It's attracted to it due to the vibrations of the blades. It doesn't attack it for no reason.
I saw the same thing you saw
Doesn't eat anything
"Eat" as in _chew_ not "eat" as in _digest._
The shark killed the helicopter!😂
How is Jaws II terrible? I thought it was more than okay
Look at the audience rating on rotten tomatoes then , and u will why lol
They should have put that on the promotional poster: "More than okay!" 😄
@@Cousinbiddy1Alot of good movies have bad scores on rotten tomatoes.
Jaws 4 was so bad that plans for a legacy sequel are still nonexistent to this day.
Be grateful for small mercies, I guess
Jaws 2 wasn't that bad sequel. Although the shark didn't attack the beach this time.
The shark doesn't "eat a helicopter". It capsizes it, like it would a boat.
And in real life, sharks don't attack helicopters.
Jaws 2 was scary! The helicopter scene was very scary!
Jaws 2 is decent, I like the overall premise, and the action is pretty good.
@@ExplorerDS6789 that would be good, I mean it would be ok for it to be a direct sequel to Jaws 2.
They would screw it up. Half the cast would be race-swapped and the shark itself would be CGI. It would be freaking terrible.
@@southernfried19 if the situation was how I described it, I think it could be good, Spielberg doesn’t do the woke trend
@@ExplorerDS6789 That would be the stupidest thing ever. You'd never come close to topping Jaws 2, so there would be no point at all.
Jaws 2 is not an horrendous sequel. It’s a bloody good film on its own. Sure it’s no jaws but what would be. What the hell man.
Sharknado was bad on purpose, though. It's a comedy, so I don't count it.
@katrinamillings3651
But Sharknado is not funny or even entertaining. It's just cheap crap.
Jaws 2 is decent sequel. I enjoyed it. But there is nothing like the original.

But he's way off about Jaws 2. Literally the majority of posts here say he's off about Jaws 2 but correct about 3 and 4.
Still.
I have an NES, and a few years back I saw the Jaws game. Being a jaws fan I bought it. One of the worst games I’ve ever played on NES
It's a shame they cut out the scene where the Mayor actually defends Brody to the town council and tries to save his job.
Jaws 2 isn't terrible. It's not on the same level as the original Jaws bit it's very good
Michael Caine on "Jaws The Revenge": "Somebody said to me, 'I saw that Jaws 4. It stinks,. I haven't seen it, but I have seen the house it bought my mother, and it's marvelous!”

As an 80s kid, Jaws 2 was equally, if not more, terrifying than the original. I was legitimately traumatized by these films and I’m still afraid of the ocean.
Jaws 2 was good in its own way. Nothing could touch the original though. Now 3 & 4 were so bad, they were embarrassing!
I think if 3 wasn’t in 3d and had good effects it would be pretty decent

True,it doesn’t have the strong structure of the original.
And the reaction from the mayor and his colleagues when Brody tells them is ridiculous. So badly written.
@@mrkos87 No, that reaction was very realistic, and that scene is easily the best part of the movie. This critique is nonsense.

@8:50 See the French poster of the film behind director Jeannot Szwarc? The title is "Jaws - Part 2" and not "Jaws 2". Why? Because the French title would then have been "Les Dents de la Mer 2", litteraly "The Teeth of the Sea 2", which phonetically sounds like "Les Dents de la Merde" - "The Teeth of the Shit".
