This is the simplest most well covered video on saddle hunting on you tube. Thanks so much . I have watched so many that left me feeling like it was too complicated to try. Your video made it comforting to climb a tree like this and literally covered every aspect that others do not. Outstanding teaching and explanation for how to hunt out of a saddle with ease. Congrats on an excellent video my man and thanks again!
2 words to describe this entire video: experience and intelligence. You keep it simple and use the tree and surroundings to your advantage. Very smart setup. I think I'll be saddle hunting instead of tree stand, the maneuverability of the saddle and the fact that you can conceal yourself easier sells it for me.
Man I didn't know I needed this set up until now. I thought I had the perfect system with my tree stands and blinds. I already know where I'd use this on my property. Thanks for the excellent walk through.
This’ll be my first year saddle hunting and this was the video I’ve been looking for. You’ve answered the questions most videos don’t cover. Great content! Thank you
I've watched a lot of saddle hunt how-to videos, yours is the one that convinced me it's time to try it. I have been lugging a climber around for a long while.
I am just starting with a saddle & this is 100% the video I have been looking for. You cover exactly what I was trying to figure out on how to use it correctly and setting it up when I get to the tree. Thanks
I must say.. This is one of the BEST videos describing a saddle setup. Clear, concise and to the point! WELL DONE!! Your tip on how to move the lineman rope up the tree... I'm kickig myself for not thinking of that!! Reply, you nailed it with this video. This show have WAY more views!!
They need to put a link to this video on every saddle hunting website lol, great job! I currently carry my sticks and platform on the back of my pack however having your sticks on bottom looks much more comfortable. 4 years later and I’m still learning tricks, thank you sir!
You answered many of the questions I had regarding gun hunting out of a saddle -- how to maneuver around to get the shot angles while still having a rest. Other videos only seem to demonstrate bow shots. This was very helpful!!
Love the video. I am a saddle hunter as well and you gave me a couple of good ideas that I'll implement. I noticed when you pulled your rifle up that the barrel is pointing up. Maybe switch that so the barrel is pointing down. Be safe, have fun and good luck.
That’s definitely good advice for personal safety! I take the bullet out of the chamber before I climb. My thought process behind barrel up is that if I were to get my gun up off the ground and then rope slip in my hands the impact would hit the butt stock, as opposed to the barrel sticking in the ground and filling with dirt, or potentially warping. That’s just my reasoning and thought process. I’m probably overthinking it! Thanks for watching!
Good video. I don't like messing with sticks, and most of our trees in S Alabama are straight, so I use a Barren Ridge Treestand that's made for saddle hunting. It functions as a climber and platform for saddle hunting. Much easier for me and results in much less stuff to tote and deal with. Probably not for everyone, but works great for me.
awesome video my man! only thing i would do deferent is pull my gun up facing barrel down that is if its hot and ready... i know guns dont shoot themselves but... thank you for the review this is great stuff.
Great video and tips. Ever climb with tether and ditch the lineman’s rope? I do. I rifle hunt alot. My crossbow a different story😊Cannot imagine someone wondering how? I used to hunt climbers facing tree so used to using tree for rifle support. I keep my strap on my platform. Just subscribed. First video. Dryad Dray 2 ❤
Yeah, them compound bow boys think hunting and the woods belong to them, and everything made for hunting is for compound bows only. Great video, I'm waiting on my platform and wanted ideas for how to hang everything once settled.
Recommend a tether that reaches all the way to the ground, in case failure of systems. Other saddle hunters have had gear failures, resulting in hanging issues and death has even resulted in one case. Self rescue has to be included.
You should try the dryad drey saddle. I'm tall and fat, it's cut my weight and increased my comfort dramatically. I can sit all day in it if I have to.
I loved your video, this is going to be my method for next year. How do you like it for bow? Would love to see the same video but with your bow. Does the line get in the way? Seems like it’s all right in the way, maybe not.
Hwy man this past year was my first year in the saddle and I love it it’s been a game changer for me I actually can hide from the deer I was wondering if you could show or get in touch with me to show how and what I need to start filmy hunts man it would be greatly appreciated for sure
I’ve never had my tree stand bounce around before when trying to shoot. I’ve even stood up while tethered to the tree, turned around and shot behind me because a deer tried to be sneaky
Really solid setup, question on your aiders, did you make them or buy them? Assuming they are Amsteel. This will be my third season saddle hunting and like you, it's my preferred method. The only thing I struggle with is one sticking or multi-sticking. I have not made up my mind yet which I prefer, there are definite advantages to both.
I started bow hunting in the 1960s back then there wasn't hardly a tree stand around but I used to bear hug a tree go up string of the ball across my chest I killed dear that way it was hard I had to find a tree with limbs but I can stand on up yonder later on so these saddle hunting rigs are the first I've seen of it:-) I could bear hug a tree and go up 20 ft in standing on a limb with my dear rifle people would drive down the road and they be afraid to look up at the crazy guy in Orange with a 30-06 no way to get up there😊
Like the pistol holster on my BAD LANDS PACKS. Not a fan of sticks though, rather rope climb, 2TC or hitch climb..If you use a lineman rope, or a running eye you are not safe and can fall.
still lookin for a video on all this gear plus hunting gear, i have a back pack full of binoculars, rattling horns, rangefinder, space for my clothes i dont walk in wearing, plus carrying the bow, just seems like a ton to carry on a long walk in, or a warm day id be a sweaty mess settin that up , just curious
So you’re telling me, I can hunt out of a summit climber, that costs hundreds of dollars less than a saddle setup, weighs just as much, and is far less complicated? Are people just using these because they are the cool new way to hunt or what? I understand you can hunt a larger variety of trees over a climber, but that seems to be where the advantage stops. I’ve been researching these for 3-4 years, and I just don’t get the hype.
My whole setup without my camera gear is under 15lbs including clothing and a bag with some snacks, and much less bulky than a climber. In my opinion, it is lighter, much more streamlined, just as easy for me to setup, quieter, and allows more shot opportunities in any given direction. These are just things I personally prefer in a saddle to a climber, but at the end of the day hunt with what works best for you! Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!
I've been bowhunting since 1981. I hunt Tennessee, Alabama, Illinois, N.C., Georgia, and a few others. I have killed deer from about every imaginable tree stand set up including ladders, hand ons, home made, and ground blind.. But not a saddle. My climber weighs 16 pounds including bow holder and quiver mount. I can shoot 360 degrees around my tree. I have never met the hunter who can get up a tree and be completely set up in a saddle faster than I can in my climber. Not even close. Hang on sticks/stand yes, climber no. I do not understand the advantage of a saddle. Almost anywhere that sticks work so will a Millineum microlite. weight might be the issue but at less than 20 pounds I'm not sure I get the difference?
My full setup weighs 13lbs sticks and all, excluding my camera gear (that adds about 5lbs) It gives me the benefits of a lock on, (tree selection) but I actually feel safer in the saddle and more comfortable to me! It all comes down to personal preference. My setup time is still less than 10 min and it’s definitely more streamlined, quieter, and less cumbersome than a lock on or climber for me! My opinion is that it’s like vehicles, some prefer Chevy some like Toyota’s. Climbers, lock ons, ladder stand, saddles, they all work great and there are benefits to each! Thanks for watching!
The weight is the biggest benefit. Smaller so you don’t hang on brush. How far are you walking in? I have a few places that are 5 miles one way. I never carry my stand that far. This year I bought a saddle though. Should be in next week. How quiet (loud) is your climber going up the tree. Never used one so I don’t personally know but I can’t imagine it being as quite as sticks.
I use a climber, a saddle and one stick, hang on stands, blinds and ladder stands. One pro of a saddle is you don't need to find a perfect tree like you do with the climber, you can go around branches while saddle hunting. I wont sell my climber or my hang on and ladder stands because I find places to use all of them. One of the places I hunt is on the edge of a bedding area and I can quietly access my hang on stand and not make any noise and I climb the back side of the tree so my movement is hidden. If I am hunting public land here in Michigan I will use my climber or my saddle every time. I do think my climber is a lot noisier than one sticking but my climber is 20 years old so I am sure they have made some beneficial changes in that time. Its all in personal preference as far as I am concerned.
I do not understand the saddle hunting at all Every video I’ve seen they couldn’t stay long back and knees give out I’d rather be in a solid stand or tall blind if I needed to be elevated

Appreciate the video. It’s got me excited to get out this season and try my hand at saddle hunting.
as a new-to-saddle hunting old guy this was very informative.

Looking into getting a saddle.. awesome video you make it seem very easy.
Thx alot from Germany. Great content, great clear and calm, to the point way of presenting your stuff. Really well
So awesome. Just got my saddle. Can’t wait for season!
Great practical insights to being quick, quiet and efficient! Really good video content!
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching

Thank you so much for this video! This makes it so much easier with my first season in a saddle!

Great video man, it helped convince me to buy my first saddle set up. Can't wait to bow hunt out of it this fall. Good luck out there!

I have a Tethrd nation Phantom elite saddle and sticks but where did you buy the aiders? I did not see them on their site. great video, make more

Looks good, maybe a video showing the different knots you use?
I have a series of videos on my channel called “knot tying guide to saddle hunting.” Where I show the main knots I use and how to tie them
You should try the dryad drey saddle. I'm tall and fat, it's cut my weight and increased my comfort dramatically. I can sit all day in it if I have to.
Thanks I’ll have to try one out sometime! Thanks for watching
Good video what kind if backpack are you useing in the video. Thanks

I made the aiders myself!

Great video as always. Saddle hunting is the only way I hunt anymore.this video is a superb a-z of how to Saddle hunt 👏

Where did you buy the Badlands Super pack, Badlands super back pack. - randall in harrison arkansas
So what height are you with your 3 sticks and 3 aiders? I just started saddle hunting after using treestands and love it!
Around 15’
Hey guys be sure to check out our other videos, thanks for watching!
Where did the one stick rope step aiders come from? Would love to implement that but don’t see it on their website anywhere.
I made these myself with 1/8” amsteel
Can you tell me what camera equipment do you recommend for self filming.
That is a pretty deep rabbit hole, but I hope to make a video on my self filming setup and how I use it soon! Thanks for watching!
What sticks are you using?
Like the pistol holster on my BAD LANDS PACKS. Not a fan of sticks though, rather rope climb, 2TC or hitch climb..If you use a lineman rope, or a running eye you are not safe and can fall.
Who makes the aiders on your sticks??
I made these with amsteel myself
Question why not have a cam on the sticks as well ?
Truly have no clue on the engineering behind the climbing sticks and why they are made that way!
Can you give a review on your superday pack?
Yes that is something I would like to do in a future video for sure! Thanks for watching!
@Everyday Sportsmen thank you. Really enjoy your content brother keep it up.

I typically pack pretty light other than filming equipment. These setups are so lightweight that they make packing other items much easier.
So, you’re getting your platform to 15’.
I would say comfortably between 12-15’

I tried one sticking, and it worked well, I just didn’t prefer it personally! I don’t feel like I have to much “crap” for me. Thanks for watching!
Another "my way is best and everyone else is wrong" jerk. This is why fewer people hunt every year.
Jeesh, I can be set up and climbing way faster with my climbing stand.
I do not understand the saddle hunting at all Every video I’ve seen they couldn’t stay long back and knees give out I’d rather be in a solid stand or tall blind if I needed to be elevated
It depends on where you hunt, sometimes the tree you need to be in can only be accomplished w a saddle
Everyone is different. After having a pilonidal cyst, sitting for long periods just isn't as possible for me. The saddle helps.
Way too much talk, thats the problem with these videos. Just get to the point!!!
