I am an extremely sensitive person. I don't like loud. But I have no problem listening to John Piper. I love his passion and authenticity. I have been listening to John Piper for decades. Thank you to Desiring God for making that possible.
I don't think this is good preaching at all. What!? Preaching should be expository Bible preaching. Not what we're used to; not what is commonplace. I'm talking about actually going through the Bible and not acting like your words are on par with God's. Piper and others like to get into big theological discussions. Amos talks about there being a famine in the land. Not of food or water, but of hearing the Word of God. America is in that place right now. When we get to heaven people are going to be very surprised who God honors.
Thank you Pastor Piper for your transparency and honesty. As a leader, I am conscious of the need to be all things to all men for the sake of God’s Kingdom and the gospel. It is not easy and we are full of flaws. I thank God that He works in us to will and to act according to His good 😌 pleasure (Phil. 2:13). ❤
The first time John appeared on YT for me I came across one of the videos where he was yelling from the very start of the sermon. So I turned it off. I ask God everyday to show me what He wants me to see and hear and wouldn’t you know that John’s sermon’s kept coming up! To this day I listen to at least one sermon of John’s everyday because I get the passion and I think his preaching is amazing! I get his tone and message and it’s full of tenderness. I absolutely feel like God is teaching us through John the simple purpose of our life and God’s meaning. We are here to see and reflect His Glory back to Him. How beautiful is that? Amen!!! Sir, to put it gently, you relied on coincidence and subjective experience and emotion to guide you back to Piper, instead of the clear teaching of the gospel of God in His word. That's akin to divination and is extremely dangerous. The Bible already tells us that we are saved by faith in Christ's sacrifice as taking our place in being punished on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection. By trusting in Christ's full complete, "it is finished" atonement, we are saved. Period. No adding anything else. God doesn't need our 1% contribution of trying not to sin from that point on, bearing fruit, good works, whatever. None of that helps us "make it" to heaven. But John teaches it does, and that our works and our killing of sin is needed to add to Christ so that we can be "finally saved" He has taught this since 1995 in his book "Future Grace." Here he is again in 2017 saying: "So, we should *not speak of getting to heaven by faith alone* in the same way we are justified by faith alone. Essential to the Christian life and *necessary for final salvation is the killing of sin and the pursuit of holiness.* Mortification of sin, sanctification in holiness." John Piper The Holy Bible says: Believe and receive eternal life: John 3:16, John 5:24, John 20:31 The 'work' of God is to believe in Christ: John 6:28-29 How are we saved? Acts 16:30-31 By works too? Nope. Ephesians 2:8-9 By righteous deeds we do? No. Titus 3:5 How was Abraham righteous though? Works? No. Romans 3:28, Romans 4:1-8 Hmmm. I visited Bethlehem Baptist the summer of 1990 and went regulary for the next 10 months before moving to Texas for work. Pastor John had been there 10 yrs and what I SO remember about his sermons was the excitement and enthusiasm that he brought to every message! It was like he couldn't wait to share with us the things the Holy Spirit had taught him that week! And it was very infectious, too--I left every service with excitement of my own and experienced a deepening walk with the Lord. Looking back today (I'm 61 now) I can see how God used those 10 months to dramatically alter the direction of my life, and I am so thankful for that brief season sitting under John Piper's teaching!!
I don't find him to be loud at all, but simply passionate for the Word of God. I love to hear him preach, whether it's quietly reflective or bold. It all comes from his loving heart and the Holy Spirit. Celebrate his uniqueness, personal quirks, and struggles... as we all also have and experience in our walk along the narrow path. I was reading a book written by Corey Russell, because of his passion. He stated things that I generally agreed with, but without his explanation of where they come from. The passion was there, but the teaching wasn't clear. While reading it, I recognized Pastor John's love for the truth AND passion for it. It is just the right combination for me. "Let your affections show if they are real." Oh, how I pray for theological conviction in our pastors - speaking very generally across the US - that our pastors would be so convicted of the truth that they would feel their theology publicly.
I know what your struggle is like with the language issue. As a young nurse we were all taught the Latin words for conditions and symptoms and diagnosis. Then in my junior year we were told not to use the nursing or medical jargon with our patients because number one they were sick and number two they wouldn't know what we were talking about! But I did learn how each nursing or medical term had a wealth of information behind the word. So I learned the terms that helped me to be able to remember all the aspects of what I needed to teach the patient AND it was a short cut in talking to other nurses and health care workers! ❤
For me, the sheer intensity of Piper - even what to others may sound angry - is the most encouraging/infectious aspect of his preaching. In my opinion this is also the most glaringly appropriate dynamic for any preaching of the living Word of God! Some of these criticisms and considerations (ie organising car parks!) are entirely laughable when one considers the explosive power and disruptive force of the Early Church.
I am sure you are right that passion often gets misinterpreted as loudness. But there are some Bible teachers who just seem to have a habit of shouting because they think that that is the way to teach. And it is very off-putting. It seems fake.

John Piper's preaching is very encouraging, at least his word come from the Bible, he doesn't paraphrase, or take parts of the Bible and use it for his own purpose. It's very refreshing. To many other's use one scripture, and use it in the wrong way. John Piper's calm way of teaching is great, he just doesn't like the book of Revelation.
I’ve seen so many comments on videos over the years about Piper being on the same stage as people like Beth Moore. My comment to them is always “the reason John Piper is there because he’s giving them the truth of the word of God that people like Beth Moore don’t.” Just because he’s on the same stage as some of these people doesn’t mean that he’s preaching the same word. I’ve seen piper show up to congregations and directly call out the preaching.
I think John Piper's point about using ordinary language is an especially good one. In the Reformation of the 16th century, one of the main concerns of the Reformers was to stop using Latin in church services and to use the language of the people, not least because people didn't understand Latin. Using obscure English words is nowhere near as bad as using Latin, but it is the same sort of mistake. This is one reason I am against using the King James Version of the Bible. The English language has evolved a lot in the last 400 years, meaning that many English speakers today often misunderstand parts of the KJV.

There are some criticisms that are helpful and are needed, and there are some that are from immature/unconverted, uninformed folks, criticisms that aren't so important/can be dismissed. We need wisdom to know what to take in/consider vs what not.
We rejoice that Christ is being Preached whether in pretence Or truth God does the saving regardless of what's being Preached Elect are brought to repentance and faith in His way his time any where!
I have a recommendation regarding the use of the same words too often. I learned a few years ago that Alistair Begg reads the dictionary. I don’t know any other reason to do this except to maintain a fresh and robust vocabulary. So, try daily reading of a page from the Oxford English Dictionary.
Not a criticism but a compliment. Pastor Piper said in his preaching series that preachers should be able to show people HOW they arrived at the conclusions they come to. I'll never forget that. I try to practice this. I wish you guys would put up the video where Pastor John punched himself in the mouth and knocked out some teeth with his wild gestures while preaching. I've looked for it and cannot find it.

Would you rather be sensitive to your feelings? And your emotions, or would you rather just listen to the word of God and not worry about how somebody's bringing the word. People are to caught up with their fear of being hurt because somebody didnt bring the word the way they want it emotions. They're feelings How do you wanna hear It? What about how God wants to bring the word? Why not listen to Jesus? People miss the move of God or the moving of the holy spirit because we as people are are stuck on I, we, me, you hurt me it's loud, it's to direct I pray that people will just humble them selves, lay down their flesh and what they want and focus on what Jesus wants. I agree he sounds too complex and hard to understand. And I also think he's a genius, despite so many theological differences, like Calvinism, Trinity, protestant view of salvation by faith.

John Piper is a cheerleader for Rick Warren who says it's ok to ordain women pastors and he also says to ignore end time prophecy ? Why has not John called out Rick ? The bible says to warn every man .
Hello Anthony. I don't know about that, it sounds to me like you're saying every man is obligated to warn every man in whom they've identified some fault. I think we would become totally exhausted laboring continuously to observe and identify all these faults in others, and then contact them over the issue. Would this be just once or on a continuing basis? Are you faulting Pastor John for not having warned every man as you see fit? Have you personally warned every person in whom you think you've identified a fault? Doesn't sound quite right does it? Peace brother, may God bless you today!

1 criticism is his RUclips channel deletes my posts. Lord I pray, open their eyes and hearts to once again have a love for the truth. Remove their pride from clinging on to doctrines of men and release their fear of tribulation and help them understand your Word as it is written, that there is no escape from prophecy and our faith will be tested as gold in a fire is purified. All Pre-Tribbers never address this elephant in the room, because now they must make up a secret unseen rapture where the church rises first and a second rapture for the tribulation saints. If the rapture of the church happens at the beginning before even the opening of the seals, then when is the second rapture for these tribulation saints? They arrive in heaven correct? Yes. Oh, that’s right…there isn’t a second rapture in the scriptures. The resurrection and rapture happens when Jesus returns at His second coming, before the pouring out of God’s Wrath, and it’s no secret, and the dead rise first then we meet them in the air. Then after the Millennial reign of Jesus there is a second resurrection at the Great White throne judgment. Wrangling over the Pre-trib, Mid-trib, Pre-Wrath, and Post-trib …does show love for one another. You just don’t see it, if I did not love and care for my brothers and sisters in Christ, I would not warn YOU that YOU may have to experience and endure persecution and wrath of satan. You repeat and read the same scriptures every single day, the very same scriptures that I use to support my Pre-Wrath position There is only 1 second coming, Pre-Wrath resurrection and rapture is the most biblical. There is no second, second coming. There is no secret rapture where only the living in Christ church is removed. The dead rise first, at least admit that the dead rise first. It doesn’t say that the living church rises first? Even so, there is only 1 rapture of the living and 2 resurrections of the dead. 1 The dead in Christ at Jesus’s 2nd coming, the first resurrection. (Revelation 20:5)(KJV) (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)(KJV) 2 The dead at the Great White throne judgement. Even Post-tribbers are in agreement though they believe it’s the last of the 7 trumpets or at the very end, because the 7 bowl judgments come AFTER the trumpets and the trumpets aren’t the very end, so that cannot be correct. Even the earliest church and saints suffered persecution and tribulation. No…I’m not arguing and wrangling vain words, I’m telling my brothers and sisters to PLEASE get ready, get ready that one day…YOU may have to be prepared to be persecuted and to die for your faith in Christ Jesus and that it is Anti-Christ, satan, and man beating the bride, not God. We are grafted in to Israel, one church, one body of Christ. We are resurrected and raptured at the same time, when our Lord and King Savior returns at His second coming. Otherwise, known as the day of the Lord, it’s the time Jesus is back present here. The sun will go dark, the moon will not give light the stars and heavens disappear like a scroll, then we will see the sign of the Son of man, we will see Jesus descending in the sky on clouds. Then the resurrection and rapture… and it happens so fast, in the twinkling of an eye that it appears as if we came with Him and we follow Jesus as he descends down until His feet touch down on the Mount of Olives. The trumpet was used as a signal for war, or for gathering. Yes, I agree it could be the Feast of Trumpets but that could also signal or sound the alarm for war. The apostasy is the great falling away and it’s gonna be all the pre-tribbers that thought that they would escape now being forced to get on their hands and knees to worship the beast and take their mark or be killed. Then there is the strong delusion, come on…it’s not fallen pretending to be aliens, it is believing that this person IS God, the strong delusion is believing that the Anti-Christ IS their awaited Messiah. Does the scriptures ever say that our Lord, King, and Savior Jesus Christ -will ever return a 3rd coming? No it doesn’t, we just mixed up what it means to come FOR the saints, and to come WITH the saints but it happens in the twinkling of an eye, it happens so fast that both statements are indeed true. I know nobody but Jesus ❤️ loves me in this world, but I can still have love for all of you, and we are not sowing discord between our brothers and sisters, and if we are right about this -we just want you all to be prepared if your secret Pre-Trib rapture of the living church before the dead, or your mid-Trib rapture at the revealing of anti-Christ doesn’t happen. Because of this I stand with the Pre-Wrather’s but also with the Post-Tribber’s. I am an extremely sensitive person. I don't like loud. But I have no problem listening to John Piper. I love his passion and authenticity. I have been listening to John Piper for decades. Thank you to Desiring God for making that possible.
I don't think this is good preaching at all. What!? Preaching should be expository Bible preaching. Not what we're used to; not what is commonplace. I'm talking about actually going through the Bible and not acting like your words are on par with God's. Piper and others like to get into big theological discussions.
Amos talks about there being a famine in the land. Not of food or water, but of hearing the Word of God. America is in that place right now.

The first time John appeared on YT for me I came across one of the videos where he was yelling from the very start of the sermon. So I turned it off. I ask God everyday to show me what He wants me to see and hear and wouldn’t you know that John’s sermon’s kept coming up! To this day I listen to at least one sermon of John’s everyday because I get the passion and I think his preaching is amazing! I get his tone and message and it’s full of tenderness. I absolutely feel like God is teaching us through John the simple purpose of our life and God’s meaning. We are here to see and reflect His Glory back to Him. How beautiful is that? Amen!!! Thank you, John.
Sir, to put it gently, you relied on coincidence and subjective experience and emotion to guide you back to Piper, instead of the clear teaching of the gospel of God in His word. That's akin to divination and is extremely dangerous. The Bible already tells us that we are saved by faith in Christ's sacrifice as taking our place in being punished on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection. By trusting in Christ's full complete, "it is finished" atonement, we are saved. Period. No adding anything else. God doesn't need our 1% contribution of trying not to sin from that point on, bearing fruit, good works, whatever. None of that helps us "make it" to heaven. But John teaches it does, and that our works and our killing of sin is needed to add to Christ so that we can be "finally saved" He has taught this since 1995 in his book "Future Grace."

I visited Bethlehem Baptist the summer of 1990 and went regulary for the next 10 months before moving to Texas for work.
Pastor John had been there 10 yrs and what I SO remember about his sermons was the excitement and enthusiasm that he brought to every message! It was like he couldn't wait to share with us the things the Holy Spirit had taught him that week! And it was very infectious, too--I left every service with excitement of my own and experienced a deepening walk with the Lord.
Looking back today (I'm 61 now) I can see how God used those 10 months to dramatically alter the direction of my life, and I am so thankful for that brief season sitting under John Piper's teaching!!

I don't find him to be loud at all, but simply passionate for the Word of God. I love to hear him preach, whether it's quietly reflective or bold. It all comes from his loving heart and the Holy Spirit. Celebrate his uniqueness, personal quirks, and struggles... as we all also have and experience in our walk along the narrow path. I was reading a book written by Corey Russell, because of his passion. He stated things that I generally agreed with, but without his explanation of where they come from. The passion was there, but the teaching wasn't clear. While reading it, I recognized Pastor John's love for the truth AND passion for it. It is just the right combination for me. "Let your affections show if they are real." Oh, how I pray for theological conviction in our pastors - speaking very generally across the US - that our pastors would be so convicted of the truth that they would feel their theology publicly.

I know what your struggle is like with the language issue. As a young nurse we were all taught the Latin words for conditions and symptoms and diagnosis. Then in my junior year we were told not to use the nursing or medical jargon with our patients because number one they were sick and number two they wouldn't know what we were talking about!
But I did learn how each nursing or medical term had a wealth of information behind the word. So I learned the terms that helped me to be able to remember all the aspects of what I needed to teach the patient AND it was a short cut in talking to other nurses and health care workers! ❤
For me, the sheer intensity of Piper - even what to others may sound angry - is the most encouraging/infectious aspect of his preaching. In my opinion this is also the most glaringly appropriate dynamic for any preaching of the living Word of God!
Some of these criticisms and considerations (ie organising car parks!) are entirely laughable when one considers the explosive power and disruptive force of the Early Church.

I grew up in a Pentecostal church. John Piper is very tame compared to that. I love his teaching and preaching.

John Piper's preaching is very encouraging, at least his word come from the Bible, he doesn't paraphrase, or take parts of the Bible and use it for his own purpose. It's very refreshing. To many other's use one scripture, and use it in the wrong way. John Piper's calm way of teaching is great, he just doesn't like the book of Revelation.

I’ve seen so many comments on videos over the years about Piper being on the same stage as people like Beth Moore. My comment to them is always “the reason John Piper is there because he’s giving them the truth of the word of God that people like Beth Moore don’t.” Just because he’s on the same stage as some of these people doesn’t mean that he’s preaching the same word. I’ve seen piper show up to congregations and directly call out the preaching.
I think John Piper's point about using ordinary language is an especially good one.
In the Reformation of the 16th century, one of the main concerns of the Reformers was to stop using Latin in church services and to use the language of the people, not least because people didn't understand Latin. Using obscure English words is nowhere near as bad as using Latin, but it is the same sort of mistake.
This is one reason I am against using the King James Version of the Bible. The English language has evolved a lot in the last 400 years, meaning that many English speakers today often misunderstand parts of the KJV.

I have a recommendation regarding the use of the same words too often. I learned a few years ago that Alistair Begg reads the dictionary. I don’t know any other reason to do this except to maintain a fresh and robust vocabulary. So, try daily reading of a page from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Not a criticism but a compliment. Pastor Piper said in his preaching series that preachers should be able to show people HOW they arrived at the conclusions they come to. I'll never forget that. I try to practice this. I wish you guys would put up the video where Pastor John punched himself in the mouth and knocked out some teeth with his wild gestures while preaching. I've looked for it and cannot find it.

I totally agree with Sharl?, I love John Piper as a teacher but I just can't take his preaching. And yes, he really does sound angry to me.
Would you rather be sensitive to your feelings? And your emotions, or would you rather just listen to the word of God and not worry about how somebody's bringing the word. People are to caught up with their fear of being hurt because somebody didnt bring the word the way they want it emotions. They're feelings How do you wanna hear It? What about how God wants to bring the word? Why not listen to Jesus? People miss the move of God or the moving of the holy spirit because we as people are are stuck on I, we, me, you hurt me it's loud, it's to direct I pray that people will just humble them selves, lay down their flesh and what they want and focus on what Jesus wants. John Piper is a cheerleader for Rick Warren who says it's ok to ordain women pastors and he also says to ignore end time prophecy ? Why has not John called out Rick ? The bible says to warn every man .

Hello Anthony. I don't know about that, it sounds to me like you're saying every man is obligated to warn every man in whom they've identified some fault. I think we would become totally exhausted laboring continuously to observe and identify all these faults in others, and then contact them over the issue.
Would this be just once or on a continuing basis? Are you faulting Pastor John for not having warned every man as you see fit? Have you personally warned every person in whom you think you've identified a fault? Doesn't sound quite right does it?

Okay…so what about the tribulation saints? You know the ones that show up at Revelation 7:14 the ones that “came out of the great tribulation”? When is their rapture? All Pre-Tribbers never address this elephant in the room, because now they must make up a secret unseen rapture where the church rises first and a second rapture for the tribulation saints.
If the rapture of the church happens at the beginning before even the opening of the seals, then when is the second rapture for these tribulation saints? They arrive in heaven correct? Yes.
Oh, that’s right…there isn’t a second rapture in the scriptures. The resurrection and rapture happens when Jesus returns at His second coming, before the pouring out of God’s Wrath, and it’s no secret, and the dead rise first then we meet them in the air.
Then after the Millennial reign of Jesus there is a second resurrection at the Great White throne judgment.
Wrangling over the Pre-trib, Mid-trib, Pre-Wrath, and Post-trib …does show love for one another.
You just don’t see it, if I did not love and care for my brothers and sisters in Christ, I would not warn YOU that YOU may have to experience and endure persecution and wrath of satan.
You repeat and read the same scriptures every single day, the very same scriptures that I use to support my Pre-Wrath position
There is only 1 second coming, Pre-Wrath resurrection and rapture is the most biblical. There is no second, second coming. There is no secret rapture where only the living in Christ church is removed. The dead rise first, at least admit that the dead rise first. It doesn’t say that the living church rises first?
Even so, there is only 1 rapture of the living and 2 resurrections of the dead.

We are not appointed to the Wrath of God (1 Thessalonians 5:9)(KJV), it says nothing in the scriptures about us not appointed to the wrath of man and of satan, it says we will experience tribulations, we experience it already on a daily basis. Even Post-tribbers are in agreement though they believe it’s the last of the 7 trumpets or at the very end, because the 7 bowl judgments come AFTER the trumpets and the trumpets aren’t the very end, so that cannot be correct.
Even the earliest church and saints suffered persecution and tribulation. No…I’m not arguing and wrangling vain words, I’m telling my brothers and sisters to PLEASE get ready, get ready that one day…YOU may have to be prepared to be persecuted and to die for your faith in Christ Jesus and that it is Anti-Christ, satan, and man beating the bride, not God.
We are grafted in to Israel, one church, one body of Christ. We are resurrected and raptured at the same time, when our Lord and King Savior returns at His second coming. Otherwise, known as the day of the Lord, it’s the time Jesus is back present here.
The sun will go dark, the moon will not give light the stars and heavens disappear like a scroll, then we will see the sign of the Son of man, we will see Jesus descending in the sky on clouds. Then the resurrection and rapture… and it happens so fast, in the twinkling of an eye that it appears as if we came with Him and we follow Jesus as he descends down until His feet touch down on the Mount of Olives.
It IS the same event, the dead rise first then we meet them and Jesus in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Admit that the dead rise first. Admit that you can only return a second time once. Admit that the scriptures say nothing about a second, second coming. Admit that it’s not secret.
The trumpet was used as a signal for war, or for gathering. Yes, I agree it could be the Feast of Trumpets but that could also signal or sound the alarm for war. But, it could also be Tabernacles which I believe is the millennial reign, God/Jesus with us, I’m thinking atonement -we all stand behind Him as He dishes out the Wrath of God. The marriage supper is all the way back in Revelation 19:7. “The marriage of the Lord is come.”
Before the Wrath, pre-Wrath resurrection and rapture brothers and Sisters. The Wrath is poured out upon the beast kingdom and those that reject God and Jesus as Lord and savior. The Wrath of God begins at the trumpets and bowls, Rev 8:1 there is silence in heaven because the Wrath of God is about to be unleashed.
Eminence is false because Jesus himself said FIRST the apostasy and the revealing of the anti-Christ. Then the end will come. The apostasy is the great falling away and it’s gonna be all the pre-tribbers that thought that they would escape now being forced to get on their hands and knees to worship the beast and take their mark or be killed.
Then there is the strong delusion, come on…it’s not fallen pretending to be aliens, it is believing that this person IS God, the strong delusion is believing that the Anti-Christ IS their awaited Messiah.

Please hear me out, please brothers and sisters use your common sense with this…you cannot have a 2nd, 2nd coming, that would be called a 3rd coming. Does the scriptures ever say that our Lord, King, and Savior Jesus Christ -will ever return a 3rd coming? No it doesn’t, we just mixed up what it means to come FOR the saints, and to come WITH the saints but it happens in the twinkling of an eye, it happens so fast that both statements are indeed true.
I know nobody but Jesus ❤️ loves me in this world, but I can still have love for all of you, and we are not sowing discord between our brothers and sisters, and if we are right about this -we just want you all to be prepared if your secret Pre-Trib rapture of the living church before the dead, or your mid-Trib rapture at the revealing of anti-Christ doesn’t happen.
Because of this I stand with the Pre-Wrather’s but also with the Post-Tribber’s. I just want you all to be prepared for the very real possibility that your faith may very well be tested by tribulation of man, of anti-Christ, and of satan -but not of God, that is what is in my heart for you.
Please just don’t be dogmatic, even I still hope and pray for a Pre, or even Mid resurrection and rapture at the 1 and only 2nd coming of our Lord.

I agree with everything that you state but I don’t agree that there is a secret rapture, and I don’t agree that Jesus returns a 3rd time when the scriptures clearly state that Jesus has a 2nd coming, and the dead in Christ rise first, then the living meet Jesus in the air together.
Show me the scripture that says that Jesus returns a 3rd time. Show me just 1 scripture that says Jesus returns at a 3rd coming, and don’t bother with the opinions of men, men have been wrong before. I have a righteousness bestowed upon me that I contribute nothing to. It is a righteousness CHRIST ALONE earned during His perfect life as my representative on earth! I have salvation, not a "final salvation" that Piper makes up where at the end, the fruits of MY life, the works of MY life, the mortification of MY sins, is tested to show that I was good enough (by God's grace of course?) No I have a salvation NOW. I had eternal life the MOMENT I believed.
