    My advice:
    1) Get a calendar: do NOT write down due dates, write when you are going to do them (ideally before the due date :D)
    2) Ask plenty of questions (when appropriate)
    3) It's okay to not get all A's, focus on passing...
    4) You can totally work during school, it's all time management. Procrastination is a product of too much free time.
    5) Nursing school isn't a test of intelligence, it's a test of will.

    I graduated nursing school last May and my biggest piece of advise to anyone starting nursing school is stay on top of your assignments and their due dates . . . TRUST ME THEY WILL SNEAK UP ON YOU!!! Never be afraid to ask a question; I always tell people that questions are only stupid if you don’t ask them. And always, always remember to advocate for your patients . . . you are their voice when they can’t be. And don’t forget to take care of yourself, because if you can’t care for yourself then you are no position to be caring for others.

      do you recomend any good colleges like can comunity college let me graduate to become an rn? I am still in high school and i dont wanna go in dept .

    • @mckaylaschulke
      @mckaylaschulke 2 года назад +8

      @@sebastiananderde5726 hi, it all depends on the route you want to take. There are just plain LPN programs and also bridge LPN to RN programs at various community colleges. You also can do just a two year RN associate degree at a community college, and then do a bridge RN to BSN program to get your bachelor degree. Or you can do the straight four year RN/BSN degree at a public or private university. Although, it also depends on your financial situation as to what you want to do and are able to do. Best advice I can offer is talk to the financial aid department and ask about financial aid options and the various types of loans that are offered through financial aid/accepted by the school and also about scholarship/grant options, and also ask about private loans. And also ask if room and board can included in tuition if needed (if student housing it’s offered on campus). If you able to help cover cost with out of pocket money, that’s even better, because when you’re done this is money you already don’t to pay back. Depending on whether or not you have to take out loans or will have scholarship money or grants (these you don’t have to pay back), these are all factors to consider when deciding on what college you want to go to. It sounds like you want go to a community college and that’s a great option to consider. Just about any community or technical college offers an LPN or RN program. You also have to consider what kind of prerequisites are required to be completed before you can even apply to nursing programs, or if the program will allow to do them while also starting the program. My best advise is to do your own research on some colleges that sound interesting to you, and to also visit those campuses as well to see how you would like them and also while you’re there talk to facility members that work in the nursing department as well as actual nursing students to get a balanced prospective about the kind of program they have and what educational opportunities they offer. Another important factor to consider when looking at nursing programs is to make sure they are accredited by the nursing board in that state or the national board of nursing because sometimes jobs won’t hire nurses that went to schools that aren’t accredited, because those programs are unregulated and who’s knows what they are actually teaching their students. Another thing I looked at when looking at nursing programs was the NCLEX passing rate at that school and also the percentage of students that found jobs out of school within a year of graduating. One last thing to consider is what kind of program options they offer; do they have options where you can can complete the program full-time or part-time on a day or evening basis, meaning do they offer only daytime programs or do they have an evening program?

    • @almairisv
      @almairisv 2 года назад

      @@elizabethherrera2765 I worked as a medical assistant while I was in LPN school mon thru Saturday and did clinicals as well. I did night class from 5 to 9pm and my clinical would rotate so I would work half days or Leave early and complete my 40 hours working every Saturday. When I was in RN school I was working as an LPN in a doctors office and worked 5 days a week. Luckily I had great managers who understood and helped me complete my 40 hrs a week and were flexible. I had a bit more complicated schedule when I went back for my RN. It's difficult at first to adjust but totally doable. You need to have a good planner and write everything down. My classes would switch every 8 weeks and I would have been lost without it. Organization is key. Learning to say no to family and friends is also important especially is that takes time away from studying for exams while I had to work all the time got me focused on my goal. You can do it!

    One thing I will say about having kids and school. Not necessarily nursing school but I went and took my grade 12 after having my kids, alongside other people my age, I HAMMERED it out! And they always said something to the effect of "man you never pick your head up you just work away I don't get it" because my theory was if I am losing time at home with my kids, then I'm going to make it worth my while and work my butt off while I'm here. So I got my grade 12 (it was basically grades 7-12) done in a year instead of two. This year I'm going to upgrade my courses I need to academic levels while working my pt job so I can take LPN next year! So. If you've got kids, you can do it! It's hard, but it's so worth it. Remember who you're doing it for

    Very sound advice!
    Two tips I have about exams: 1. Trust your gut! Usually your first instinct is correct, but read the questions carefully, especially with priority setting questions. 2. For dosage calc, READ .READ. READ. VERY. CAREFULLY.-- do you need to convert your answer into tsp? mg? mcg? IS the question asking for amount for 1 dose? Or for 3 equal doses? etc. Are they asking to round to the nearest whole number, nearest tenth or nearest hundredth? Know your conversions!
    One thing about working... If you're in an accelerated BSN-RN program (12-18months), be mindful of working!! Accelerated programs are fulltime/double full time jobs and unless you're working PRN for like one day a week, it's not worth it, IMO. I know several students who failed classes because they worked and didn't allocate their time appropriately, which just throws your hard earned money down the drain.

    I definitely needed number 9 😍.. Hopefully I will be starting nursing school in January and I’m already planning how I’m going to work and everything. I have almost 7 year old daughter. I sat out of school to raise her now that she is a little older things are easier. I started back taking classes Fall 2019 and now I’m applying for nursing school. I’m super excited and nerves but she’s my biggest motivation 🥰 but thank you so much for number 9 I really needed that 😘

    Time management is most important. Do a little bit of something everyday. Write down all the due dates on a physical calendar so you can see them. Then work on that paper or study for that exam a little bit everyday. Won’t need to cram the night before.

    Hey there, thanks for the video. This summer I started getting my pre-reqs done for nursing school. I know for getting into a program grades are critical, however I haven't heard a whole lot about the importance of grades/ performance while actually in the program. You touched on the grading scale a bit in the beginning but as long as you pass your classes, what is the importance of a grade while going through RN school? Thanks!
