In this program we witness a dynamic Fallen Flag, Conrail, captured in 1995 at various locations on the Harrisburg Line and the Pittsburgh Line. We first spend an afternoon/evening at Wernersville before venturing out on the Pittsburgh Line at Bailey Run, Mexico Farm Road Crossing (otherwise known as Book’s Crossing named after farm owner there), Mattawanna, and Huntingdon.
You will see a great variety of shiny blue locomotives (with their Leslie RS3L horns that were so common on Conrail but not very common on today’s railroads) powering all kinds of trains.
We also include a brief visit to the East Broad Top Railroad with its narrow gauge steam operation and the Rockhill Trolley Museum both based in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania.
A special bonus at the end of this program features a 1995 summer Sunday evening of action at Oakdale, NY on the Long Island Railroad witnessing GP38-2’s hauling trains from the Hampton's as well as MP15, FA, and F-unit power cars on the local trains.
Approx. 93 Minutes
Man, am I tempted to buy another DVD. I'd kill to railfan in July of the 90s!
Two of my favorites Conrail power and jersey cows.
Wow great LASHUP at 3:45, A C40-8, C40-8W, Trio of SD40-2s, and Another C40-8W
Lots of mixed freight trains on that line. Lots of flat wheels too...
Long live Conrail
If Conrail hadn't been split by NS and CSX, who knows what Conrail would have looked like.
Used to spend the summers at my aunt and uncles in Leeonia Ohio they lived really close to the Pittsburgh line man I miss the days of Conrail!
Big blue. Miss seeing conrail locomotives
Nice engines and passenger cars you caught
Rip conrail 1985-1997
*1976-1999
we have to go back
Needs more Conrail
That first conrail sd70 sounded it like it had the Leslie rs5t dmir uses
I'm pretty sure the unit leading in the first clip is a SD60
Hearing the morning chirp of birds and bugs in the year 1995 almost sounds like heaven. We had achieved many things by this year and it was before 9/11, before fellow Americans were so divided, before cancel culture, before cell phones and social media. All of these things that are killing the modern society physically and mentally
I know exactly what you mean. The 90's while they had problems, I think was peak times for middle class America enjoying suburbia. Sure there was war and stuff but the Berlin wall was down, people were making money, the internet was new. its WAS a good time to be alive. There was a ton of steam excursions. Railroads were still yet to form the HUGE mergers. yeah definalty a vibe. the early summer morning. maybe there was pancakes on the griddle, you tied up your sneakers, grabbed the sony camcorder, packed up the station wagon for a day of catching trains with dad or grandpa. maybe went to the local lunch spot, then come home to mom with a roast dinner.....miss those days
I was never a thought in that time
0:21 in the game Trainz Simulator, this exact horn is used
