I almost bought this set today at the Lego store, I think the lack of actual train couplers killed it for me. I had planned on selling the figs to offset the cost but it seems Lego has done a bit of cost cutting themselves 🤷♂
Two problems I see. One, like you said, no space for a minifig in the cab, and two, no magnetic couplers. Darn shame, it really needs modifications. I personally prefer the 4708 iteration, just a better, more Lego, build. Plus, it was easy to convert to 9v, which 2018 and 2023 are not. Anyways, good job! Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
I agree the two new ones are not easy to convert to 9V. Check out my video tomorrow. I modded the new one and it is now motorized and fits a figure standing in the cab!!
I think my only problem with this set is the lack of proper valve-gear detail on the locomotive. Other than that, it looks pretty cool.
I would agree. It is smaller than the older one and therefore doesn’t have as much detail. I love the wagons though and the station

Yeah the couplers are tough because they don’t work on switches. The cars derail. I put a motor in it though with a video release tomorrow:)

The passenger wagons and station is cool. I like the old loco I think. The wagons on this one though I like more

I couldn’t agree more. I fixed that problem and motorized it though and the video releases tomorrow. Making the cab bigger was easy!
