  • Hi guys,
In this video, I successfully managed to fix the problem with the car by changing some stuff in the engine bay. Let me know in the comments if you had the same problem and if I helped to fix it, make sure to like this video and subscribe for more E90 content.

Nick please don't risk your life by depending on a trolley jack, get some ramps or axle stands. You're gambling your skull with a tiny rubber seal in the jacks pressure valve. Great video though, wish you well with your future content 💪

I think theres a part missing from inside your crankcase breather. Ive seen the old one looks like a little toilet roll, or the new version has a plastic part to replace it. It looks to me like you have just the housing for it. Maybe someone removed the old filter because it was blocked. Or am i tripping 🤔

No, the newer model M57's DON'T have anything in there. It is confusing but for example my 2007 M57tu2 530xd does not have anything inside it from factory. This applies to other models aswell.

In the beginning that noise isn't starter, It is 100% crankshaft pulley, I had that problem aswell.

Great to see that you got the smoke and nervous idle in order. May I ask, did you have any error codes on the glow plugs or glow plug module before you replaced them?
I have some issues on my car that I think are related to the glow plugs, but no error codes when scanning which makes me scratch my head.
I measured them too and that reading looks ok to me, but I'm thinking if they can be worn out but not fully gone? Maybe old soot and dirt degrades the function?

I am having the same issue, i have change my glow plugs and module 3 years ago.
Now I am having again this issue.
I was thinking that my glow plugs are about new, maybe is problem with injectors. All injectors are tested and tips are restored. But again problem persists.
      Again no codes.
What I know my glow plugs was very cheap one, so I am thinking carbon and not gut quality glow plugs are reason behind it.
If you solve something please write

@@edinmuhedinovic7421 So three years ago, you changed the glow plugs and module (without any error codes) and your car worked better again - did I understand that correct?
But now three years later, the problems have come back?

    • @edinmuhedinovic7421

@@lasseblomqvist9378 yeah right on point. 3 years ago I have solved the issue with new glow plugs and module, without any codes. But my mechanic put some AN glow plugs (producer from Turkey) and BERU glow plug unit.
I didnt know that just couple of days ago, because I have checked it at receipt, and yes it was a cheap one.
First year was OK but it is gradually decreased in cold start perfomance.
Again I am not getting any codes related for this , just only for example oil level sensor. But oil is OK , antifreeze level Ok perfomance Ok, just Cold start is very lumpy first 10 seconds, and white smoke and rich diesel smell from exhaust.
When it is for example 6 7 degrees Celzius outside it will start without lumpiness.
So I am also thinkimg to renew atleast glow plugs, with BOSCH DENSO or NGK.

@@edinmuhedinovic7421 Fantastic, thanks for the explanation. You have convinced me to be brave enough to try to change the glow plugs on my car. 🙏💪
I have been scared to death for doing that after hearing stories about how easy they break. And I am good at breaking stuff trying to fix them. 😂
I just ordered a set of Beru glow plugs, they were at a good price at Autodoc right now. I saw a screenshot from the BMW ISTA tool where they recommended to change to Beru or Bosch plugs so I went for a safe choice there. I was looking at Denso first just as you are, like the brand and price/quality, but after reading more thorough I found that you need to update some software to use them (if I understand it correctly) and I didn't want to risk that as well. My own incompetence is risky enough. 😂

Do these m57n2 s timing chain set have to be replaced and if yes at what mileage? Is a stretched timing chain of bad guides audible?

    • @nickushev

They have to be replaced after 120k ish depending how you drive it. Will notice a rattle on cold start when it needs changing. Not common to fail without any warnings.
