The modules are a common issue on these, not sure about your Merc though. The only issue it had was a tiny misfire for a couple of seconds when starting at about -4. These, like pretty much all commonrail direct injection diesels don’t actually need glow plugs to start until severely cold conditions like -20°c or some shit. Pretty sure they’ve never worked on my old 330d since I’ve owned it tbh 🤷 Older cars in injector pumps, like the old Peugeot XUD engine have indirect injection. The fuel is sprayed into a swirl chamber inside the cylinder head and has a flat top piston rather than the fuel being injected directly at the swirl chamber built into the piston crown. These did need heater plugs, in fact so much so that they wouldn’t even start with a warm engine without them! What I’m saying as that in modern diesels like this, they are more used as an emissions control than starting the car. They stay in for a bit to help warm the engine etc, but other than that the only reason I changed them was cos my dad is well particular about his stuff being perfect. Everything he puts on any of his cars is usually genuine OEM or the same brand that makes them. I do like OEM parts, but not the prices. I fitted oem discs and pads to the front of mine a few years ago now after warping 2 sets of supposedly premium brand parts in short order, and the genuine ones are still good, but for £350 on a car that’s probably not worth much more than that they fucking should be!
I had to change the glow plugs on my wife’s 2.0D Mini, as I was told that it uses them whilst It does its thing with the DPF whilst it’s being driven and emissions like you say. It didn’t have an EML though. However, my daughter’s Fiat 500 D flagged up an EML when one of the glow plugs went open circuit.
@@Bodga some cars throw a light, some don’t. This didn’t but did show a fault when you scanned it. It was found the regen no issues but a lot of cars will refuse to do a regen if there are any faults present. DPF cause so many issues, from basically blocking up which is usually brought about by other faults causing them to not regen etc to blowing engines up from oil dilution with diesel from regen and failed regens. The emissions crap on modern diesels can be a major pain in the dick.
Mines coming up with glow plugs 1-6 with errors (probably module???) so thinking of just doing all glow plugs plus module then it’s done for peace of mind
Close enough, I’ll see you again soon for this weeks video drop. This is just a re-edit and upload of an old one due to copyright on the music it had 🤦♀️
nah man you need to change them gaskets of manifold and clean every contact surface, u just installed it back with all the grime and oil on the surfaces :(
I replaced the gaskets and cleaned all the carbon gunk out of it when I did the swirl flaps not that long ago. What is there in the video is just a tiny bit of wet oil. Lubricating rubber gaskets won’t do any harm.
Yea it’s a rerelease. I had to edit due to copyright on the music. Similar kind of situation Taylor Swift has her self in, but it is just the type of problem you get when you get to our level. When I edited it through RUclips Studio it completely blocked most of my talking out, arguably a good thing probably but it meant I had to delete the video and re-edit/upload it again, hence the double Saturday upload 🙄
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos I used your original video to help me with mine! That glow plug module was such a pain! And it also showed me how to take the inlet off which has now become a regular thing! 😆 I recently did the egr pressure converter which has completely changed my car as ever since I brought it the throttle would constantly open and shut, open shut! 😳 it runs beautifully now! ❤️
your videos are great! thankyou
@@necropolisk thanks mate!
Did it have issues ? On my merc with 80,000 miles i just changed the glow plugs just as preventative measure, not sure if ive got a module ?

Yea, more than likely the module. That’s the same thing that this one was doing.
On my M47 I had codes for all 4 glow plugs, AND no comms from the module. Tested the glow plugs and they indeed had all failed, AND the module.
Do you a decent garage in G.Manchester that could do this work?
I do know a couple of decent garages in oldham area, but tbh any garage should be able to undertake this job no problem
