    I’ve been feeling a bit down lately. So, what to do but watch a crochet video. The music made me cry- my mom’s favorite song ‘Leaning The Everlasting Arms’. She sang quite often in her final weeks. Just a reminder from her I think, I wouldn’t pay much attention except if it showed up in a crochet video.

    Beautiful stitch and so simple. You do something that I would like to try and that is wrapping the yarn around your finger about six times. Going to try that as well. I have crocheted for years so it's nice to see how others do things. You tube is great for that reason. Thanks for showing us.

      Tunisian crochet is a whole craft on its own there are many, many Tunisian stitches and they are all beautiful. I have often used this stitch with worsted weight cotton (Sugar and Cream, etc ) for making hot pads. To counteract the curl that the work naturally has, I border it with a round of slip stitch, the one of single crochet, and finally a round of crab stitch. This gives the hot pad a very finished look as well. It's a very soothing stitch to do, good for nights when you're too agitated to sleep.

    I am not being mean, I promise. I'm trying to give constructive criticism. The title says for beginners and I think I count because I've been crocheting for only 4 months. I got what to do on the chain and then the first row, leaving the stitches on the hook, but after that I was unable to figure out what you were doing. It looked like maybe you were going through 2 loops at a time, but I couldn't tell for sure. May I suggest putting the words (like you had at the beginning of the video) on screen explaining what you're doing? It could get you more views and longer watch times.

    • @Newtonheimer
      @Newtonheimer 3 года назад +3

      In the beginning she skips the first stitch. Then works one stitch at a time works all the way through to end (going the direction the needle is pointing). Then she works her way back working one stitch, then she works through 2 to the end, and starts going forward again, skipping the first stitch each time she starts that row (again, going in the direction the needle is pointing). Hope this helps. ♥️

      @@grannym2880 I've found another way to create straight edges that may be a little simpler! Alternating rows -
      ROW 1: insert into FIRST gap. At the end of the row, pull through TWO stitches initially, then continue pulling through TWO all the way to the start.
      ROW 2: insert into SECOND gap. At the end of the row, pull through ONE stitch initially, then continue pulling through TWO stitches all the way back to the beginning.
      Then just alternate through like this! Remember, if the row starts in the 1st gap, pull through 2 at the other end. If it starts in the 2nd gap, pull through 1 at the other end. Hope this helps! x

    Hmm… I think I kept making a mistake with the sides here. I believe I’ve figured out what I’m doing wrong though correct me if I’m wrong.
    This stitch likes to lean to the right so we compensate by forcing to the left each row. I was trying to shuttle back and forth and got a wonky left side and my stitches are leaning to the right.
    (I’m just going to do a test patch because I’m a beginner and this is my first attempt and see if I’ve understood this time.)
    I need to skip to the second hole once I’m into the pattern repeat?

    • @ThePinkBinks
      @ThePinkBinks 3 года назад +1

      Personal time stamps to help me work this out. Anyone else please ignore.
      Work a chain for as many stitches as you like.
      2:11 end of chain/beginning of first row, 2:52 first return row (add a loop by crocheting one, work back by crocheting two till row end)
      Begin pattern.
      1) 3:56 work into first square hole. 4:47 work into last square hole then last two threads. Return. Add a loop and return. Results in pinched square hole on right.
      2) 5:58 work into second square hole. 6:54 skip last main square hole and work into last two threads. Return. Add a loop and return. Results in large square hole on right.
      Repeat pattern.
      3) 7:40 work into first square hole. 8:27 work into last square hole then last two threads. Return. Add a loop and return. Results in pinched square hole on right.
      4) 9:50 work into second square hole. 10:29 skip last main hole and crochet last two strands. Return. Add a loop and return.
      Repeat 2 row pattern.
