  • Peter Sissons introduces Virgina Bottomley, Mo Mowlam, Marie Stewart and Sheila Lawlor.
Subjects include the recent Danish rejection of the terms of the Maastricht Treaty; the state of the NHS; whether politicians can be trusted to place long-term environmental concerns above their short-term political prospects; and the possibility of privatising parts of the Civil Service.

You can see the visual inspiration for Chris Morris' Day Today and Brass Eye all over the set and titles here. Pointing. Aggressive pointing. BIG LETTERS.

It turns out Peter Sissons died last year. Crazy times.

Hmm, so I just commented on the quality of another video you posted... These are stunning. How were they capped? Thanks so much for sharing these videos.

You're welcome :) They're captured direct from VHS or Betamax to DV QuickTimes (at 720x576), and then encoded as 720p50 MP4s using either Handbrake or Adobe Media Encoder.
I have to blow them up to 720 because RUclips does not support 50fps at standard-def resolution, and it always annoys me when 50i material is uploaded as 25p rather than 50p and so loses its original "live video" motion rendition.

Blimey, the introductions were rather long and cringe worthy back then! The NHS and Europe. Funny how Europe and NHS dominated debate even back than.

Excellent newsreader but QT was never quite the thing for Peter Sissons. Better than the current presenter though obvs

Exactly didn't suit. Like you said was an awesome newsreader we all grew up watching. I remember when he was on ITN back in early 80s on News at One
