Hello! :) I enjoy your rankings so much, especially your reasoning for placing the individual episodes! I really understand why you ranked the episodes like you did, even if my own ranking is different. It was also nice to see your combined ranking, I hope you continue to do that! How you go back and forth with explaining your own ranking was a great choice as well, since it would've been boring if only one of you would've always started with his ranking. I think the only thing I would've done different is uploading the poll first, wait for its results, and then compare them to your individual/combined rankings :) Episode 1 is my personal lowest. It is a great start to the game, sets the tone well and is overall a nice introduction to almost all characters. But aside from that, there isn't too much here, I think? It has the pretty common “Episode 1 syndrome”, where it simply isn't the greatest because it's the start of the game ^^ Episode 2 is my golden middle. The Kate story is obviously the highlight, and while it has some frustrating passages (like the bottles and, to a lesser extent, the diner scene), it also has some great ones, like saving Kate and wandering over the train tracks with Chloe. Overall, I like how it fleshed out the characters a little bit more :) Episode 3 is my personal favorite! The atmosphere in the beginning was great, the pool scene was iconic, the kiss very sweet, the diner scene a good use of Max's power (although I understand why you didn't like it too much, Liam) and the ending absolutely devastating. Interestingly enough, the one part you didn't like, Jack, was the part I liked the most: How Max/Chloe-centric this episode is. After dealing with side characters for quite some time, I felt it was finally time to focus on Chloe a little bit more :) Episode 4 gets my silver medal. For me, it was a little too long and a little too complicated (especially the board puzzle and the conversation with Frank), but is has some of the greatest scenes in the entire game: The entire beginning in the Alternate Timeline, potentially visiting Kate, finding Rachel and the Dark Room … only the party was something I wasn't fond of, but that's mostly because I don't like parties in real life and was quite exhausted by the point I finally reached this part of the episode X'D Episode 5 is second-to-last, mostly because the nightmare sequence, while having some good moments, was WAY too long and the time jumping a little too confusing. My choices didn't feel like they mattered because Max would just reset them with a time jump, and it really sucks that only one of the endings feels satisfying. However, because of some important emotional moments (like the Sacrifice Chloe ending, the conclusion to David's story, Nathan's confession and parts of the nightmare), I'd rank it above Episode 1. :) TLDR: My ranking is: Episode 3 > Episode 4 >> Episode 2 > Episode 5 > Episode 1 (Episode 3 and 4 are great imho, while Episode 2, 5 and 1 are good) I hope you'll continue to make these ranking videos, they are probably my favorite video type :) (Along with the analysis and essays) Have a nice Sunday! :D Tatjana~
Hey Tatjana! That's awesome! We love to hear that because I personally think we've got the right formula for our ranking videos now so glad you think the same (but absolutely will remember the poll first next time! 😂) And very interesting! Don't think I've ever seen Chaos Theory come out on top before actually 🤔 its usually ep 2 or 4. I'm also glad that I wasn't the only one who put ep 1 last - a great intro, but as you say, lacks the creativity and plot heavy details of the others. Catch ya next time! ~ Jack
Just off the top of my head I’d say: 1. The Dark Room 2. Out of Time 3. Chrysallis 4. Chaos Theory 5. Polarized Although, I’m that guy where like, my opinions change a lot, so if I commented on this yesterday my list would probably be different haha
Hmm… Jack and Liam certainly have opinions they consider carefully. I wonder what they think of the original killers from 2016’s Dead by Daylight; I have no opinion myself, despite doing a massive lore dump brush up recently for “informed opinion recommendation” purposes. Everyone has their favorites among the survivors and killers I know, and there have been several games made to emulate it over the past half decade or so.
Dead by Daylight isn't really a game that fits the realm of this channel being a multiplayer horror game however as someone who used to rinse that game getting the platinum back on the Ps4 days I can tell you, I mained the Spirit however if I had to pick one from the main lot, it has to be the doctor. You can farm so many bloodpoints with his shocks and putting the perk Distressing on him was Goated. Survivor wise, I'm a Kate main. I tried to switch to Scoops Ahoy Steve but I got tired of being face camped every game so I went back to my girl. Maybe one day I should stream some for you guys! - Liam
@@ButterflyEffectPodcast Thanks for the reply. I guess watching channels like Single Player Nacho, SuperHorrorBro, and Gamer Harry got me curious as to which killers/survivors were best liked (at launch versus over time) versus the DLC waves from popular movie and gaming horror franchises. I remember Resident Evil was in there, with the original four playable characters as survivors and Nemesis coming in as a killer.
5th - Polarised. The final episode is just too poor for me. For one, it backtracks all the choices and the two endings are just too unbalanced. But also the maze sequence is just too "video game" which feels like the opposite of what LIS is. 4th - Chaos Theory: I get people love this one, but way too slow. I love the side characters and I feel the third episode is too focused on Max and Chloe. Good for characterisation but too focused on it. 3rd - Chrysalis. Strong. Just suffers from being the first one. Great moments but later episodes build on them more. 2nd - Dark room: I adore this one. The alternative reality is interesting. The Vortex Club is a great setting. The twist is phenomenal. But most of all I appreciate a detective sequence that doesn't hold your hand. Most detective things in games - including Detrot Being Human - panic and go too easy on you. Not Life is Strange. Go hard or go home. 1st - Out of Time: yeah, you guys worded it best. But on top of that, as I said, i love the side characters (Dana, Alyssa, Victoria) and this episode allows you to explore that. If anything, it gave me a false impression for the direction they were going for, which hurt the rest of the game. Peaked way too early.
