1:26:01 - Charlie has the most individual character development in TDIM, including numerous wholesome and caring moments (if you choose right). He's intentionally overbearing and obnoxious at the start, but turns out, he cares about everyone the most, and is also quite funny. He has the worst night out of the whole cast, can be belittled and betrayed by all, and is super-easy to kill - and even if he survives, he is the most injured - but it's very rewarding. Gaining hugs all round, throwing himself at the killer to protect everyone, and having tears in his eyes in his final scene as he reflects on the craziness, overcoming addiction and no doubt becoming a much better boss. It's not Jason/Salim level, but it's worthwhile. Honestly, it's nice to see Charlie get some love. Sadly, during most playthroughs I watch, people don't understand addiction (or his British accent), get sick of him very quickly, and get him killed early on - especially in co-op, which was very buggy back in the day and made it almost impossible to keep Charlie alive. I'm always surprised to see people get him through the night.
I agree with all of your points. Playing through I definitely had more fun in all of his scenes than i did in most others. Of all the characters I definitely had the hardest time keeping him alive if only because most of the decisions needed to keep him alive seemed like you had to do the opposite of what seemed like common sense.
Clarice is literally the secondary character who does the most important thing in the game and, she only remembers that she was taken to the darkness and disappeared 💀
i love jason, i think his arc is very well written. yes what he said and what he thought are really bad, but i like how he understands in game he was wrong with the whole patriotic facade he put on because he had nowhere to go or nothing to accomplish in his life, it’s like he realizes he was kinda exploited by the patriotic sentiment and the military (especially considering he was a former addict) and lead more and more to have biases. there’s even a point in game before he chats with salim about his trauma where he describes home as “rich getting richer, poor getting poorer, kids fighting for a penny”, which shows deep down it’s how he truly sees the world without his facade. it’s really neat.

But I have to agree I just feel like of all the characters from house of ashes they threw most of the character development at him which is why he was up there as my favorite. Ugh I know. Like I get where they were going with her character and making her likeable and all that but man that didn't sit right with me how fast she switched up
I think the devs mentioned the Chris death not being intentional, and that it was instead something like Ash freezing up from trauma instead. but the way she just backed away from the door after seeing him made her feel so cold and unlikeable, like no crying? Screaming out in fear? Nothing???
Yeah I bet it was unintentional and I understand it's a lotta trauma for a teenager to go through, it's just playing from an outsiders perspective that makes it so hard to sympathize with her.
