- Kevin Moranz is one of the top privateers in the sport and has been slowly dialing in his program these last few seasons. He has had a run of great results in 2023 and has gone on a tear with some awesome starts in heats and main events, grabbing a ton of eyeballs in the process. Moranz is a smart guy, has a college degree. He isn’t indoctrinated to believe you should love dirt bikes and thats enough. He understands there is a short window and he needs to make what he can. Wish he could teach this to every rider. It’s sad that people are top 20 in the world and can’t pay rent. Motobookie

Some of the most exciting moments in Supercross come from the LCQs where guys are just sending it to make it into the main and save their night. It's crazy to me that the promoters don't do more to honor and reward those dudes. And the manufacturers should be giving any guy who is on the broadcast and rocking their bike a healthy fee. It's ludicrous. Moranz, to me, is basically a marketing genius. He squeezes every little bit out of his program and patron contributions. To top it off, this guy is clearly ready to run at least closer to the top ten with the proper equipment and team support. Here's an idea, instead of letting those two Husky 450s gather dust under the tent every week for the rest of the season, why not give Moranz a fill in shot. See what he can do. It can only bring more eyeballs to the brand. After all, they don't show the bikes under the tents if the riders are out on the big broadcast.

A few hundred dollars for main event finishes?
When I used to race pro class at local races up here in Canada I would make more money than that. Our local organization would pay out more than that for us local joe blow pros. I could make over a grand in a weekend if I won two classes.

I used to be a mechanic on the circuit and if you think the riders don't make any money try being a wrench.

@@lenev19 dude my buddy was a mechanic for rockstar huksy for a few years and his rider made 7th place in the main in 250 and he took home the mechanic like 250 bucks
... and it will be even worse if you see how much an hour...
Why are they charging pro rides entry fees???!!! They should be getting paid start money to show up! The more notoriety a rider has, the more start money he should get paid. At the very least, these guys should not be having to pay ANYTHING to show up, as a pro rider!!! It’s insane!

Sadly these privateers make more now then back when I was racing back in the RC/Bubba era. I knew when I got my pro license and couldn't qualify for a pro national I had to give it up just too hard to sustain that level and be a privateer. I have the upmost respect for these guys. Unfortunately back then the sport just wasn't big enough to pay these riders. Nowadays I think greed more than anything else is the reason these guys don't get paid anything. They also aren't putting people in the seats so it's a tricky situation but to have the 20 fastest racers in the world not be able to all live comfortably is heartbreaking to say the least.

Everyone complains about feld and the payouts. As long as they have plenty of privateers showing up and willing to put up with low payouts, then it’s going to continue. Actions speak louder than words!! All privateers should stay home in both classes. Let them have a main event with 8 bikes in each class.
All the privateers should take a week or 2 off. You guys need to get together and make a stand at some point. Oh, and the big name guys should be leading this movement. They have a voice.

. They put their life on the line literally every time the gate drops moto, supercross and monster and the factories make millions and millions of dollars off these guys,while paying them peanuts!!! We need to get a motor cross union put together! These bigwigs that put on these events need to be exposed show how much money they make compared to how much money they pay out! let the public know! It's one of the most dangerous sports in the world, it's absolutely insane to me this is still taking place!

Supercross will always be niche with this type of pay out. Guys doing stock car racing at local tracks are making far more money than this. Guys doing drag racing are making more money than this. I think a riders union is something to consider. Sure, the top guys will still make far more money, but at the very least you could set a minimum. Its not like attendance at these events is bad, its typically over 25,000 spectators.
BUT what is the registration fee? It isn't like you can show up without slapping a few bucks down just to get on track. Never mind- he said $225. Sounds pretty cheap.

The world has really bigger problems than paying "professional" supercross riders cant't life from racing anymore, but... it a joke!
Feld needs to let riders sell their own merchandise. Full stop. This "club rider" mentality that the AMA has, and has carried over to Feld is stupid.

Arenacross made a system like that where you can sponsor riders or give prize money if a rider gets above a certain position. I think it would be cool if supercross did the same thing

That’s an absolute joke….. Wouldn’t even bother with it. Back in the mid 90’s as a decent B rider Yamaha paid $200 contingency per moto so I could enter 2 maybe 3 classes on a weekend and win up to $1200 with 6 moto wins. I chose Yamaha for that reason, everyone else paid for the overall.
