  • It was 50 years ago this month that Malcolm X was assassinated. There is a story about the black activist that might have been lost to history, were it not for a student at Brown University who came upon it quite by accident. Jim Axelrod reports.

This piece of "journalism" shows how true Malcolm's words were then and now. I stopped watching soon as they paraded out the Liberal white lady who talked of his softening stance on integrating. He may have left the Nation of Islam but he was still a black nationalist. Malcolm X had integrity, something very few "journalists" know absolutely nothing about.

The sharing of ideas to find solutions to problems shouldn't be seen from a narrow perspective unless the devil is in the details.

Something doesn’t add up about this. An institution as prestigious as Brown doesn’t know the content of its own student paper? These haven’t been digitized??? And why didn’t the woman come forward years ago with the recording? She obviously knew its historical significance. CBS should have also interviewed someone from Brown faculty and staff, especially their archivist.

The last statement about Minister Malcolm believing in integration is untrue. Show main any speech were brother Malcolm spoke with a changed mindset on integration as opposed to separation. What he did do was apologize to his harsh comments against those who were opting for intergration. He was willing to work with anyone who truly wanted a suscessfull solution to the racial problem in America. He felt that blacks should control the politics and the economic base of their own black communities.

Hajj was a changing point for Malcom X and I think that was the real reason why he was killed. He most likely had something very powerful that changed him and those who killed him knew that powerful change would create a huge difference among his followers

In the program of the OAAU in which he was presenting before his assassination, he made it plain that he was not about integration: We Afro-Americans feel receptive toward all peoples of goodwill. We are
not opposed to multiethnic associations in any walk of life. In fact, we have
had experiences which enable us to understand how unfortunate it is that
human beings have been set apart or aside from each other because of
    characteristics known as “racial” characteristics.
However Afro-Americans did not create the prejudiced background and
atmosphere in which we live. And we must face the facts. A “racial” society
does exist in stark reality, and not with equality for Black people; so we
who are nonwhite must meet the problems inherited from centuries of
inequalities and deal with the present situations as rationally as we are able.
The exclusive ethnic quality of our unity is necessary for self-preservation.
We say this because our experiences backed up by history show that
African culture and Afro-American culture not be accurately recognized
and reported and cannot be respectably expressed nor be secure in its
survival if we remain the divided, and therefore the helpless, victims of an
    oppressive society. - Malcolm X

He was right about integration. Here in NYC the jewish people & chinese. Are the most separated from other nationalities. Yet are the strongest. And have maintained most of thier old country customs & habits.
