It is horrible to be wrongfully accused and convicted of killing a man. But it is so much worse to be convicted of killing a civil rights leader like Malcolm X.
I’m sure he possibly was apart of something but not the actual murder.

I feel robbed of knowing what really happened. One thing I do know, schools should teach about Malcolm X just as much as MLK. Furthermore, the only way I learned about civil rights was through my own research, and there are so many lesser-known heroes. Somehow, we could never reach that part of U.S.history in high school.

EVERY word you said is right and exact. If I were to make a suggestion it would be that we have to own educating ourselves on our own history. Why would the oppressor educate you with anything that would serve other than his best interests? He wouldn't! So, we need to establish our own annual reading list of books, study comparative religion, understand what Democracy is supposed to produce from a classical perspective, and then compare it to our reality. Isis Smith, the other man was paroled in 1987 so did not die in prison.
Wrongful conviction payout can never bring closure to broken families and in this case Khalil Islam went to his grave as a convicted felon. He did not get the chance to hear the apologies nor you are exonerated for said injustices perpetrated against you... Yes all those involved in this crime against Imam Khalil Islam and Imam Aziz should be held accountable. Put in a civil suit against each one of their estate.
Sad part is, the other guy that pulled the trigger is dead now! Crazy part is, he was living in Newark, New Jersey the whole time he was alive.

I realize this took place many years ago. But, in many of these wrongful conviction cases no one is ever held accountable for their direct participation, and or, involvement in these crimes.

This is an instance where the truth will make you free. But this is evidence that we need to overhaul our criminal justice system. We have enough problems. We should not be spending resources locking up innocent people. Every time an individual is locked up for a crime they didn't commit, a person who is guilty goes free.
This has the opposite effect of what our criminal justice system is supposed to accomplish. Our criminal justice system is supposed to make our society safer, by removing people who have committed crimes, that are a threat to our peaceful and lawful existence. But it has been abused on every level. If we can't trust our criminal justice system, then the laws in which we are governed by have little real meaning or effect. Men are being locked up on a technolicality. Power is being abused. People are being locked up for no good reason. We need an overhaul. Starting with the laws. We need to take a hard look at how law enforcement agencies use laws to bring people down and keep them down.
And some laws create
Opportunities for organized criminals to make a profit. We need to stop stigmatization of people and behaviors as being criminal.
And we need to remove the criminal element out of our system, that allows for a black market to exist. We are spending too many resources on locking up people, and fighting crime, when some of these resources could be used to help people and prevent them from having to resort to crime. And we need to remove the racism out of our criminal justice system. We must provide real financial opportunities for people of color. This is going to take some effort, because people have been taught for years to think this way. Changing the hearts and minds of people is much harder than writing a law .
They need to compensate this man and the other deceased brother for being wrongfully convicted.
When they deliberately arrested the wrong men, they knew it would take all these years to sort it all out. Meanwhile, guilty parties are retired, deceased, and basically got away with the murder, scot-free.

Elijah Muhammad didn't have to oratorical skill that Malcolm and he certainly didn't have his charisma. Malcolm had a magnetic energy that drew people to him. You couldn't help but the love the guy. If Malcolm really wanted to (and I don't think he did), he could've succeeded Elijah. And I think that stirred up a lot of insecurity within Elijah and other top level leaders within the NOI.

With all of his charisma, how many followers did he have after leaving the Nation of Islam? He had a lot of pom pom wavers and "That's right, you tell 'em, Malcolm!" people, but not many ride or diers!! Same today. These Malcolm jock riders aren't doing ANYTHING that that man stood for. This is great! Exoneration has no substitute for innocent people wrongly convicted. The Netflix documentary by historian Abdul Rahman on the assassination was crucial in digging up evidence of the conspiracy (FBI and NYPD). Justice delayed is still justice in such cases!

He's 83 years old and is still running around here pretending that he was some Nation of Islam Angel ! He never talks about why he was targetted and would have been believed to be a suspect in the first place. He still hasn't talked about his involvement in the attempted murder of Benjamin Brown who defected from the Nation of Islam and was believed to be a Malcolm Sympathizer. Norman and Thomas both participated in shooting Benjamin Brown who had started his own Mosque in a store front. Thomas is believed to had participated in the firebombing of Malcolm's home a week before Malcolm was assassinated you can read about this in the book The Dead Are rising by Les Payne. He doesn't talk about how his own doctor testified that He lied about his leg injury and said that his leg was injured during the time of the Malcolm's Assassination, and when his doctor testified it destroyed his Alibi and by him lying it destroyed Thomas 15x Alibi, which is why it seems Thomas didn't really rock with him like that. He never talks about why there is a man seen outside of the Audubon ballroom Dressed in the very distinct manner that Norman used to dress, wearing a tweed coat that Norman can be seen wearing his hat "Bama" style something that Norman was known for at the time. This person standing outside of the Ballroom matches Normans description to aTee. Unfortunately we are not able to see the persons face, but someone should damn sure atleast ask him about it. Pull up the picture of the man in the hat and the tweed coat and ask him if it was him. He'll probably deny it but ask him anyway. He may be 83 years old but he still has a lot of growing up to do. He should at least have the decency to admit to the fact that he acted as a criminal on behalf of the Nation of Islam on several occasions and even though he may or may not have been directly responsible for Malcolm's murder if he was held responsible for all of the crimes that he actually did his children would have still grown up without a father .
