In the beginning when there was a issue with the trailer paperwork wonder how long that would have taken for the driver to resolve without the CEO at hand. Not sure it would have taken longer but I would bet it would. Would have been much more interesting had they matched him with a driver that was not as necktie friendly. Now that would be great!!
Knight Transportation I wonder how y'all gone treat me when I come in September
We look forward to seeing you in September. Are you currently in school?
Knight Transportation I start August 14 and finish September 8 I talk to bo out of olive branch and my dad used to work at night

BEING A PILOT I GIVE YOU DRIVERS A LOT OF CREDIT. FOR MAN HANDLING YOUR RIGS ACROSS OUR COUNTRY.
AMERICA ROLLS ON BIG RIGS.I WISH ALL OF YOU SAFE TRIPS. MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A TAIL WIND AND BLUE SKIES. 👍🇺🇸
"Curse the darkness, or light a candle," I like that…
CNT 2C56 I thought that was a great quote also. I actually rewound the video to go back and hear it again. Very cool message in that quote.
I need to start lighting more candles. Cursing hasnt worked any.
It just baffles the mind all these management members reached their position in the company without ever being a driver. My god it’s a trucking company
Why does that baffle you?
Knight Transportation ! I guess Cuase that’s how it was done in the old days. Company’s would premote within its own. Meaning the driver would get the first opportunity at a Dispach job . Kinda like paying your dues so to say
Knight Transportation huh....no reply Knight??
It should be baffle any trucking company that would put people that high up with no experience in the field to which they’re going to run/manage/operate.
That’s majorly of all transportation companies. They hire college grads who manage the bottom line, they don’t get payed to drive nor do they even want too. Ex military with logistic supply training get the management jobs. They don’t want a drivers mentality in management because they would advocate too much for the driver!
Why don't you laminate a copy of the trailer files so they won't get damaged
I have spent 24 years behind the wheel here in Canada ( Ontario ) and I must say that there is a divide between company and brokers and until that divide is removed and all are treated equally there won't be kindness .
Good stuff, I have been a driver a dispatcher a regional dispatch manager and am now a terminal manger for an industrial gases company. The most important thing we as managers can do is connect with the drivers. They need to know we care about them and understand the sacrifices they make daily to provide for their families. I hope that this is still your corporate philosophy, keep those fine ladies and gentlemen rolling down the road safely.
Mad respect for a CEO that can get dirty with his employees. Team work at it's best!
I agree. Dave Jackson is a great guy.
@@KnightTransportation1 yea, good job guys. i respect a CEO who's willing to get his hands dirty with the lower workers.
I wouldn’t call being in a truck for 2 days getting your hands dirty.
Easy to play trucker for a day
Allan raises a valid point, even over here in Australia, how can we be veiwed as professionals drivers when we cannot even speak to one and other in a professional manner on the CB without the profaities and abuse.
Do truck drivers still use CB's the people I know who drive trucks use cell phones and head set now.
Ungodly people speaking ungodly things... Repent and trust in Jesus amen..
Oh no; bad words... Grow a spine or get out.
I work for post in Sydney Transport. I still wonder why they do not outfit our trucks with CB radios. I got my own short range I have written off on tax which helps me out but F me some of the crap that goes on... R2 channel is filled with absolute children polluting the airways with absolute garbage.
I love this little series you guys have done.
I'd love to see some kid getting mouthy with this guy then be like...oh by the way, I'm the CEO....woah man, sorry bro! haha
I'm not a driver, but I've recently grown interested in the field (there's been drivers throughout my family, and I recently lost an uncle that drove his entire life OTR), and I really appreciate how the issue with the trailer registration wasn't glossed over. It wasn't ignored, and it took very little time to actually rectify. Very impressive.
A very poor attempt at company propaganda.....drivers should be paid by the hour!!!! PERIOD!
But you take soooo many breaks! Lol! Ha Ha!
Yep I'm a local driver now paid by the hour overtime after 40 hours. OTR verses local driver pay I was leaving $100 a day on the table and never home. Dave CEO talks the same rhetoric all trucking companies talk of OTR bonus. Never going back to OTR unless paid by the hour. Allen is the most professional driver I have ever seen. I worked for the airlines for 25 years most of the pilots where not as professional as Allen including me! Allen is a true inspiration to me on my last few working years driving truck.
Yeah work for JB hunt they pay 25 an hour 😂
I love what Allen said "you can curse the darkness or light a candle" - what a great philosophy!
Allen is incredibly wise. We are grateful to have him on our team. Thank you for watching
That's an old jewish proverb.
Dave I'm 24 years old and was born 6 months before my father decided to become a truck driver. I grew up for the first 10 years not seeing my father for 1 or 2 months and seeing him for a day or 2 and then back again to 1 or 2 months.then when i was 10 my father became an Owner Op and then the finances become nicer but harder at the same time. the point of my speech is that i have missed a lot of time with my father and it is very hard now that I am older and i see the Dangers of the road I can only say one thing. I pray that every night my father stops at a truck stop and is able to sleep. I am glad that your trip was very nice with Allen but not everyday is so tame and nice.
The next time Dave hits the road, it should be in the winter and for 30 days straight during the holidays and experience the mandatory shutdowns, 34 hour resets and low amount of hours available on the clock to continue running.
Either way, like that the Big Cheese hit the road to kinda get an idea of what goes on. Loved that the original plans got scrapped. Something that happens all the time.
Then get off the road? Maybe?
After seeing two episodes of this series, I have a profound respect for long haul drivers.
" What you do everyday with a truck safely, there's a very small percentage of people that can do it.." 🤘🏾
Yeah. He is a incredible driver.
Every week, should pick one the executives and get down to basis, like warehouse jobs, drivers, mechanic and janitorial...If you are not capable of doing these jobs, you shouldn't be CEO or Boss or Manager, because you don't understand your employees, and what the do for the company. Just that simple. Forgot to mention, that week of " aha moment" with the same pay and benefits. I re-assured you, companies will take a second look and will improve tremendously. Good Luck!!
As a driver myself, I honestly enjoyed this video. What I believe stood out and I agree with is an attitude of professionalism
When I Trucked for years the going joke on the CB was: QUESTION: Where do you hide your money from a
JB Hunt driver? ANSWER: Under a Bar Of Soap. 😂
I wish every company did this; sending the high-ups to live the everyday life of employees. Great work Knight, you really are a model corporation. BTW Indiana Jack needs a pay increase! lol
Allen Reeder is my instructor at Knight Transportation. Great guy and a consummate professional. I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. Thank you Allen.
As a driver myself, I honestly enjoyed this video. What I believe stood out and I agree with is professionalism,. Definitely something to work on an aspire to. Good Job Knight
my sis drives been driving 20 years she has problems all the time with getting her pay from her company that's why she quits so much ...do better employers or you will lose great truck drivers ,,,,,love you sis....little dell...
Is she single?
U r right mr ceo drivers should have to spend a day or two with dispatchers
HOLA, ALGUN COLEGITA DE HABLA ISPANA, PODRIA DARME ORIENTACION DE COMO, CONECTARME CON ESTA EMPRESA EN ESPAÑOL. VIVO HACE AÑOS EN ALEMANIA, HACE MAS DE 25AÑOS CONDUSCO, Y MIS ULTIMOS AÑOS ME GUSTARIA TODO ESTADOS UNIDOS CONDUCIRLO.
SALUDOS CORDIALES.
What a great informative video. I'm looking forward to many more. Seems Dave Jackson has Alots of respect for his drivers and other employees. This is what a great company is all about. One thing I do find is alot of management of other companies doesn't know what some of the other employees do. I think before you get a Mangerment job you have to work your way up the ladder. You will have more respect for your employees.
This was absolutely Fantabulous!!! Good on you Dave Jackson for getting out there with a driver and seeing a little of how it goes. To all the negative responders.... calm down. Dave didn't HAVE to do this, especially in his position, but he did, and that is the important part. How many out there can say they have had this pleasure? I think this was pretty awesome, and this here for me personally is the part of my reasons for wanting to join the Knight family. I'm truly hoping to make this a reality come April 2020 after I get everything in order with my current job, and at home. Kudos to you also Allen Reeder for being a pretty awesome Professional Truck Driver and Thank you for keeping America moving. Thanks to ALL Truckers out there for all you do. God Bless.
Professional drivers all deserve 1 per mile . This job keeps families apart .
ilyaaz Bilal you are very right
Sydney Wooton Tnx
If brokers wouldn't pull "commission" out of load rates. Company's would pay you a dollar easily.
another great video with Knight and a million mile driver vet.respect's from las vegas , nevada.
would anyone want to start driving a truck when they`re almost retirement age ?
Good job all around from Drivers prospective and from Managements. Innovation makes for a success with a team concept working together. More More. Stay safe Driver.
Dave don't like the cameras. Well neither do the drivers.
Ugh. Quaker oats! Rudest checkin guard ever. Bad experiences at the tolleson Quaker oats.
Thank you Dave Jackson for riding with a driver. What an eye opener to see life as a Knight Driver. I hope this video brings understanding, happiness, and appreciation to all. Knight Transportation.
I'm an owner operator but if I wasn't Knight Transportation would be very attractive to me. Great video
Wow, thank you River Big. We appreciate that!
thanks for taking the time to do a ride along Mr Jackson , i wish all DM and all of our Knight family non driver associates can eventually get to do like wise, much respect to our CEO
ON DUTY NOT DRIVING = NO PAY FOR THAT TIME
The problem with the industry. Should be on salary....a big one.
Why does this yard look like Amazon's
this was a dog and pony show for the cameras. instead of riding with your top 1% driver, ride with your average driver and see how ha goes. someone without a dedicated gravy run where everything is preset, predictable and ready to go. this is pointless
These runs are setup in this way to allow for the production other wise they would hold the driver up in a traditional day.
It is like Undercover Boss!
Yes, there are a lot of similarities to Undercover Boss here.
I have such a high regard for Knight; applied there at buckeye years ago, but, as a woman, could only lift 80#, so I couldn't pass ur Endurance test. Keep up the great work!!! 💜💜
Management 101 - Treat your employees well and they will in turn treat your customers well, this is how we grow business. It is very heartening to see upper management take the time to genuinely engage an employee on his level. Thank you for an excellent video.
too bad driver managers dont think the same. Many new drivers will figure that out eventually.
The key phrase was a little extra money to do those trailer inspections he knows damn well he can pay a driver hell of a lot less than a Certified mechanic here's $20 to do the inspection yeah we right stupid idea
my thoughts exactly !
As a driver myself, I honestly enjoyed this video. What I believe stood out and I agree with is professionalism,. Definitely something to work on an aspire to. Good Job Knight
Add up what you made for the day and then divide it for an hourly rate. Most of the time you make the same or more working at WalMart and you go home every night. Pay for truck drivers should be no less than $20 hour. You have to really enjoy traveling and have the mental ability to stay away from home for long periods.
Damn working at walmart is the good life if they make more then me at .62/cpm
which is $24.80 per hour on a 70 hr work week.
I just talked to my recruiter and i'm all in! I'm looking forward to my career with Knight!
A good CEO - he has a lot on the plate ensuring the company runs and performs the way it should - he was kind to the drivers and I think wanted to really show that he cared.
He should be wearing a mask!!
I've been a driver and a manager and I really appreciate your video. All companies should make as many employees as they can ride with the drivers day or night. It changes the drivers and managers forever. Thanks Knight.
We couldn't agree more! Have a great day Joe
If my calculations are right, Million only drove about 300 miles each day for 2 days. Is that by choice, or is it that hard to get miles? I know that he said that he is semi retired, two weeks on two off. But those two on, wouldn't he want more miles. And, the unloading and loading in LA, was about three hours. That along with the 30 break cut into his 11 hours driving, by at least 30 minutes. Is this common?
This driver is a weirdo.
I only watched the first 10 minutes and could tell that that guy doesn't pre-trip his truck everyday lol. If he did it would have been a habit by now to turn the lights on right away so you don't have to go back in the truck and do it and if you did it every day your body would be so used to it that you wouldn't break a sweat even in Arizona
I respect this CEO, viewing from Jamaica..
I wonder how much this cowboy makes as ceo
nevermind... over 800k... damn
JDEDeddy and does nothing but sit his lazy ass behind the 🖥computer , but the drivers don’t make much who does all the hard work. Smh 🤦♂️
It's encouraging to see a CEO went this far to learn what drivers do and what it's like to live in a truck.
As a driver myself, I honestly enjoyed this video. What I believe stood out and I agree with is professionalism,. Definitely something to work on an aspire to. Good Job Knight
Weird most places I have been they just print out trailer papers.
Loved the video, but I think I've never laughed so hard. first I heard the CEO, sounds like a nice guy, say as he's watching you face time with your grand kids, "isn't it nice that modern technology allow you to stay in touch with family while away from them on the road.", then the pro says "Yeah, it really is. " but what I heard in my mind was. "isn't it nice that when you're gone so much, you never see your kids, but at least you can face time with them." Then what made me laugh hysterically is when the CEO said something like. "Isn't it nice to be able to look out and see the wonderful country we life in, I mean, what a beautiful view!". and the pro driver said something like. "Yeah, it's very theaaputic when I think about my second divorce." as if to say, living on the road away from home will cause you to loose not one but two wives. sorry, I drove back in the day before we even had cell phones and GPS's, and I'm sure it cost me my first marriage. so I guess my mind put that all together... great video. really. *smile*
So how many miles did he drive and get paid for on this trip? Is it worth the money? Seriously asking.
My instructor when I was attending trucking school said he would get paid 300$ a week with Knight . Smhh
It is my goal to become a KNIGHT
Worst company ever to work for. Spend 1 + hr on the side of the road waiting on hold for breakdown. Oh and good luck with dispatch too. What a joke.
G If you drive for us give me a call we would like to see how we can be better for you.
@@KnightTransportation1 one trip no pay
The owner should have rode with a less experienced driver. That way he could see the short comings in their training..all desk employees should be made to ride in the truck for a week
I think to inspect a trailer you need to hookup air and electric to check anything on a trailer and watching some of these guys they would need 5 to 10 years to figure it out..
I enjoyed watching.
Need to pay drivers more to be a good company
Do you know what we pay?
Knight Transportation what do you pay
Knight Transportation non answer spoke for its self. Obviously low pay.
I just spent my last $6 to buy breakfast. Imagine having a $500 car note and your paycheck was $250. My next one was $300. $600 next. $5something next. Was praying I got enough to pay my car note tomorrow. $550. $50 for food next week. Have to pay the rest of my bills late. 3 days off since Christmas.
16:45 the driver asked about this in a round about way and got a CEO style response
So much more to trucking than just driving a truck
K buyer - you are so right, it is but a small part of the job.
I was owner opp and you have to have notarized paper proving you have been trained on braking settings and brake lines. Same as on wheel bearings. Electric light replacement when replacing light attachments. SEMPER FIDELIS
That's the most whities office I ever seen..lol, Arizona huh..lol I'm not being ugly tho guys..haha, 🤣 sorry..lol
what does knight pays per mile for the driver and how long they are out on the road
Hi
I know it's an old post , so unsure if you will even read this. But my question to the CEO would be, If you think that a CDL Driver is a Skilled Worker , then why not push to get the Legislation change to Skilled Worker Status ? I am a Truck Driver in the United Kingdom and we have the same problem here. Also it helps with getting Work in Other Countries . My eldest son lives in KC Kansas and i often think how cool it would be to go visit him for a few months and get a Temp Driving Job even driving Straight Truck . I can Drive anywhere in Europe With my License , Only USA i am not .
Watched few RUclips videos from this company and as I’m working on getting my CDL, this made me interested in this company.
That’s cool of him to get more knowledge on trucking than those who sit in a cubicle and have no idea what we’re dealing with daily. I might join knight just cause of this
This CEO still does not have a full understanding of what it means to drive over the road and be out away from home for a minimum of 4 weeks. He needs to get his CDL Class A and spend a month driving all over the USA. The average miles a OTR driver should be capable of doing is around 10,000 miles. I drove for Knight my first three years, then realized that there are other Trucking companies that pay more and have newer rigs. Example of this is Andrus out of St George UT.
Ok, so who is the guy at 23:23, named "Cheeseburger"? I know it's a big world but not too many people with that nickname. I was stationed in the Army in Germany around 1986 with a guy we called Cheesburger. Could he be the same person??
Under Cover Boss is next. Too funny, a CEO will never get the REAL experience. Everyone jumping out of their seats to help the boss! Believe me, a driver would get a very different experience.
It’s crazy how people’s attitudes change once the boss is around.
Who's attitude changed? I know both of these men personally and both were genuine to who they are in this video.
This is so positive in terms to their drivers. Speaks a lot and they get to experience and hopefully respect drivers a little more. Way to go Knight if I was just starting; I would definitely consider driving for Knight because of these ride along.
Thank you for the positive words. Take care out there.
I have a question I heard you mentioned your truck has 422,000 miles by now, is there a reason for you to chose manuel gear. Volvo had I shift for a long time already. Thanks for sharing
AFTER WATCHING THIS I HAVE NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR KNIGHT TRANSPORTATION DRIVERS OWNERS CEO ETC N MORE """"" I WOULD WORK 4 U ONLY BECAUSE OF THE RESPECT THIS GOES FOR ANYBODY RESPECT GOES LONG WAY ESPECIALLY WHEN U DO WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES DO... THIS IS LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT I WANNA APPLY FOR A CAREER WITH THIS COMPANY I WILL SHOW THE SAME....
They would have a certification for doing D.O.T. annual inspection.
.32 per mile is horrible pay knight transportation!! Keep a guy out for a month at a time totally devour someone life expecting to pay the guy just over minimum wage so sad.
Good morning, truckers...my name is Hector, experienced driver for about 21 years. I posses a valid CDL class A license. Today is my very first day watching one of the best videos that i ever saw in all the years trucking, the quality, the experience and the knowledge of the manager trainers are excelent...i believe with that kind responsability in provide better technics to the drivers to improves the knowledge is incredible and amazing. My respect for their professional team....keep it up guys! Hector Velez
Outstanding Experience!!!!!
what's a crib bed /bunk? I'm 6.4 " but the the truck is over 7" wide. The bed should be long enough.
i have question wounld you hire a guy has 32 yrs driving with safey awards and ring now here question driver has prostate leg i know there automatic Trucks now and he can drive still with all yrs do help people like us love to work love your video;s i think everyone in the office need ride with a driver for 3 days in all kind weather not just summer
driving is not the most fun, it's the most difficult part so therefore PAY your fucking drivers 50 cents a mile
They should do it all not just sit...feel the responsibility of it all and the stress of it all!!! For a long period of time 🇺🇸😷
ceo really doesnt care about his issues.. its all about the bottom line... all drivers can be replaced...
Do all Knight drivers sleep at Knight terminals at night or at truck stops ????
Waaaaz up, cheese! Your famous now brother.
I been watching these videos where the office workers get in the truck, that is so awesome, not seen that anywhere else,
Cant get po# right loads cant be moved quick enough sounds like a whole like of working with your heads cut off, million dollar company with zero dollar Communication!.
More like billion dollar company
Worst trucking company
Swift: hold my beer...
Wow! Cracking vid, good to see the CEO getting in on the action and not afraid to ask, do or try. This looks a great company that looks after it's people!
Thank you Marc - Dave is great leader for sure. Are you a trucker Marc?
Knight Transportation Unfortunately not, I’ve had an interest in trucks etc since I was a kid (I’m 43) I’ve always had the thought, I’d never pass the medical, but love seeing this type of video, trucks, shows etc.
thats why these ceos shouldnt be the bosses , when they have no clue ,, the drivers should move up.!
why does the ceo not have a cdl and was a driver this is all bull. stock would go up 5 bucks if you had a cdl with real skin in the game!
Why do you feel a CEO would need to drive a truck to understand how to run a company? The driver is very important but it takes a team of people to make sure stuff gets where it needs to be. Getting a cdl I don't think would be the best use of his time - trucker steve.
I just think people like dispatchers and other employees have no idea what its like to drive. My dispatcher is clueless tells me to do things that can not be done driving and he has never drove.
Knight Transportation you are screwing your drivers. This company makes a killing. i am a owner opp and would never in my life work fir a bottom feeder like knight. The rates you are paying are garbage. I clear $750.00 a day running for my self. You are a joke knight.
i want to see them get their cdl and spend a week with a team setup who don't stop till the week is done
Wow...he used PC the wrong way with the CEO on the truck.. haha
I thought i was only one who sweeped trailers out at knight
