- My second video blog! I discuss why I like my Z4 as well as things that I dislike.
This was originally part of my first video blog, but it would've ended up being over 20 minutes long so I split it up. Авто/Мото
Agreed about the Zed’s handling on bad roads...I immediately took off the RFs when I bought my ‘05 2.5i 2 years ago.
There was a profound difference in suspension and handling. With the RFs it seemed like the car was riding on tires made of rock like the Flintstone mobile. Other point about getting compliments about the car, but there are ’haters’ out there that are jealous and pull out in front of you at the last minute...also if you’ve ever driven a motorcycle, it’s the same issue, peeps think that a small car or cycle won’t hurt them as if you crash into them, also I had people pull out in front of me, when I pull up along side of them they say they didn’t see me because my car was too low.
Love the videos, great tips! I'm going to follow that sound deadening video on my zed. As for the rattles I pulled out many plastic panels like the speaker grates behind the seats and added felt tape where there is plastic to plastic contact. Fixed many of the creeks :-) also did the drink holder deletes and added the ultimate cup holder down by the carpet. Thanks for the videos keep posting z4 related vids!
I had that same notchy sort of resistant shifting in my 2006 Z4M Coupe. After I changed the transmission fluid it became smooth and sweet. BMW suggest that you never need to change the fluid, but if you do I believe you'll see a big improvement.
What is the transmission oil he mentioned in the video? Did you use the same one?
I totally agree! The gears are notchy, I really thought it was just my Z4! Sometimes the gears just do not want to click in, it's bloody annoying. Are you using RFTs? I use standards on mine and it's not that bumpy at all. Certainly no more bumpy than my girlfriend's 2017 135M.
I have a 2004 3.0i manual and agree with all your comments. I have deleted the CDV, add a weighted gear knob (Storm Motorwerks V2) and changed out the gearbox oil and this had made the transmission acceptable. In terms of ride I moved from 18" 108 alloys to 17" 103's on normal tyres (not run flats) and this has reduced crashiness to an acceptable level. (Mine is a UK car on BMW sport suspension)
Mine is now similar to yours. I have CDV delete, ZHP gear knob (made the biggest difference), and changed transmission oil (noticeable but not dramatic difference). I am on 18" and pirelli p zero nero all seasons and after changing suspension it is acceptable crashiness as well. On sport suspension just like you.
I had the ZHP knob before I changed it, it was better than the standard but the Stormwerks weighs nearly 3 times more and made an even bigger difference. In terms of ride, also worth experimenting a little with tyre pressures. In the UK cars com with run flats as standard and a lot of people say when you go to normal tyres you should the psi a little but just do it in small increments.
Thanks for the video!
38mpg?! thats very suprising to me. What engine is yours? Also, since yours is 03, what problems have you encountered so far? I heard something about the sticky steering problem and the convertible motor drain clog problem from the 03-05 model. Kinda pushed me to get the 06-08 models, but I also heard about the engine oil lifter problems on those later models. So i am a bit torn.
I am also thinking about getting the z4. I just want to know how reliable is the Z4 before committing.
wiganda On the highway 38mpg is totally possible if you're really light on your foot. I have had convertible motor problems (twice thus far) each time was able to fix for free with a little know how. No sticky steering problem yet, and no other issues to speak of. I'd go for on 04 or later model if you care about bluetooth connection at all. I like the older tail lights, although the z4m was only made 2006 and 2007.
the handling on rough roads,is this before you put the new shocks on. how's it handling now if you put the new ones on? thanks for all your video by the way. zed4me for life..
I managed 41mpg out of my 2.5 over a 200 mile coastal route - but usually it's mid 30's combined with sport button on permanently
my 2013 bmw z4 28i gets 17mpg on surface streets driving on comfortm =/
whaaaaaaa
I just dislike the unreliability of mine tbh
Are you kidding? My Miatas got compliments also...that is not exclusive to BMWs...wow.
Yeah. And the s2000 gets compliments too. But only from people who know cars. Sorry if that comment came off snobby. I fell into the common BMW owners trap haha
Cant wait to see the new Miata, lighter with more torque-back to its roots! Light and fun to drive!
buildmorefarms100 Seen it, and boy is it a looker!
Loose terminology. I had a primer and rust baja bug that got compliments. I've had encounters in my zed I would not have had with a Miata.
Stop saying " AH " , because ah it is ah so very very ah anoying !
It’s difficult to do a vid will concentrating on driving and talking...their is no script to read..sheesh, cut the guy a break.
