It's the doctors job to weigh the negatives and positives.
Chemotherapy is pretty much poison, but it hurts the cancer more than it does you, and the cancer would kill you anyway. Same goes for my field, radiation, rays kill the problem faster than they kill you.
So, take the meds the doctor prescribes you, if they cause symptoms or your quality of life to worse, tell your doctor so he can further adjust the treatment.
Sorry for giving a lecture, it's a reflex that was beaten into my head during my education.
