The Bill Hicks ‘do more drugs than a touring funk bank’ got my attention at the time. The album was and still is brilliant. So great.
McClusky and FOTL had gone under my radar, until I saw them at a festival in 2008.
Absolutely blown away by the performance.

I'm subscribed to well over a1000 channels (and at least a 100 of em are music related) and your's has been my absolute favorite - every band you talk about makes me want to immediately go binge whoever it is you happen go be covering. I saw Mclusky 2 weeks ago, so amazing!
Mclusky is so criminally overlooked. Falco's writing is so smart, witty, and hilarious. I saw Mclusky on their tour to the states in 2004 and again just last night, almost 20 years to the day. It was very surreal.
NGL it was love from that video by rathergood, same way I got into Laibach seriously.
love mclusky, future of the left, shooting at unarmed men, all these bands are so sick. been listening to them since way back. not a single bad record imo. i'm so happy they are kinda back.
Brilliant video. I have used a section of it in my video about mclusky and Future of the Left. I learned loads about them from this video. I especially like the anecdote about their difficult journey from Cardiff to London to play the gig at the Garage. It was pretty funny.
Some songs off the Slaves’ first album reminded me of mclusky.

A very underrated band who, as far as I am aware, don’t have a video documenting them anywhere on RUclips is Silver Jews, their 1998 album ‘American Water’ is one of my favourites!
So underrated they were that frontman David Berman felt his music was always under-appreciated, he was a lyrical genius and sadly (at the time of writing this) this Sunday coming up marks the 3 year anniversary of his untimely passing.
I’m not sure you’ve ever considered making a video about them but I think they have a really fascinating backstory and there’s enough material for it, plus it would be amazing to give the band some more exposure 👍
But yeah keep the good work as always 😎

Falco is a great musician and a top bloke. I’ve met every lineup of Future Of The Left and seen them countless times, they are amazing live. McLusky are fantastic to but I have only ever seen them live once when they reformed a few years ago with Julia from FOTL on bass, hey were great to.
Falco is also a sharp and witty sod who I feel sorry for anyone who has to suffer his ire. Bloody nice man and one of the coolest people that I have ever met.
Asking me to choose a favourite FOTL song is evil, it’ll change depending on what album I’m listening to or what song I hear when I’ve got their albums on shuffle. I just love that band, probably the consistent best welsh band about today.

Very good video and a great band. I found them while browsing in Tower Records and a staff member was playing Do Dallas. I was blown away, asked the staff member who it was, and promptly bought the album. Mclusky are probably my favorite band after Fugazi. The UK had some really good rock / post hardcore bands in the 2000s (Hell is for Heroes, Cay, Seafood, early Idlewild). Have you heard of Cable? I haven't met anyone who knows them, yet their 'When Animals Attack' is one of my favorite albums.

Future of the Left are amazing. Like an up to date NoMeansNo musically and lyrically spot on and totally original.
Thanks for making this video. FOTL the left and Christian Fitness are two of my all-time favourites - so many great songs. I think maybe Andy Falkous is just a bit out there to gain anything more than a niche following.
I don’t know if this channel is still alive (shame if it isn’t, it’s a good one but I get it that you’ve got other things going on life) but I have recently gotten into a band called Sloan that I think would be a perfect subject for a video by you. Canadian power pop band and they are soooooo good. Big in Canada but ignored by the rest of the world, they’re my pick for “best band noone’s ever heard of”.
As someone who grew up in cardiff there would be no noise rock scene without mclusky arguably just important to the scene as um a certain duran duran sounding band who shall remain nameless because their singer liked children, without mclusky there would be no martini henry rifles, no Jarcrew, no Victorian English gentlemen's club and later on No Exit International or Los campesinos, they are the reason why promoters took booking noise rock bands in that city seriously. Its funny future of the left are now based in Bristol(where I currently live) where thanks to Idles, Heavy lungs etc the scene is like how Cardiff was back then, it just took a while for the mainstream to catch up. I do need to correct you slightly Shooting at Unarmed men was actually formed before mclusky disbanded, Jon had a load of songs that Falco wouldn't use so he formed his other band as a way of getting that material heard. And travels with myself and other was OG line up, Julz and Jimmy didn't join until Plot against common sense.
Love both these bands. Still never met a man who can wear a hat indoors!
You should check out Morphine, or look into them more for a video. Such a unique and dark band that never gets enough credit, there's a great documentary on RUclips for them too, the good and cure for pain albums never get dull for me, they got lyrics you can put on the wall and sounds you take back to your motel + the best bass sound in the business. I listened to grant lee buffalo and quicksand from your videos and feel you'd get something out of them that's special. thanks, great vids.

It's a great song. In fact, I originally mentioned it and only chopped it out of the final edit just to shave some time off (and because the other two I mentioned from 'Curses' had videos).

I'll admit, I was never a fan of McLusky/Future of the Left- but you make some excellent points. I'm still no fan, however, you make a better case than many of my friends back when they were contemporary, and a fair number were. I suppose it's just about tastes and flavor, but it's just unmoving to me. Not that I'm siding with Conor, but I've long since considered a lot of the "music" press to simply be fashion magazines for people who still have idols- I mean, compare the average interview with a singer in the music press against a singer in a straight fashion magazine, and I doubt you'll find much difference. Thus, I do think it's part of the "game", and why Idles are doing so much better with virtually the same sound- Idles are willing to play that part of the game. However, I do think there's another part of the game, and it's to do with mental illness: there's a widely accepted myth that art requires suffering- and it does limit success to wear that myth too broadly on the sleeve- so, I think that's part of it, too- Falkous has made social anxiety, depression, and rage part and parcel of both his persona and art a bit more overtly than Talbot does in Idles. Still, for all that- thank you for making me reconsider a bit, even if they're still not for me.
Glad you still enjoyed it! I think that time period was a particularly interesting one for how the NME shifted gears and the influence they had. I remember picking up a copy in '99 and the cover feature was Godspeed You! Black Emperor. No pics of the band, just a moody image of a landscape and some text... on the cover! Given the changes that soon came in, it's hard to believe they ever did something that risky. Probably sold few copies to the kids wanting an interview with the Gallaghers, but struck me as an admirably ballsy move when I think back now.
