This was super helpful! I recently got accepted into CPP as a comp sci major. would you say that it involved a lot of math or more logic? and whats the average size of your CS classes?
hey there, awesome congrats on your acceptance! i would say theres both math and logic involved but I would say theres more logic in the classes im taking but regardless I had to take calculus and physics classes as it is a requirement.
great video! I'm considering committing to CPP but was wondering if it's possible for someone with barely any coding knowledge will be able to thrive there. Have you ever struggled in any of your classes, had some coding experience before your freshman year, and is your grades so far great? Sorry I'm just really curious!
yes i believe anyone without any coding knowledge can thrive here. the professors are helpful and we provide a lot of support such as learning centers, clubs, tutors, and many more ways on how you can improve coding and technical and logical skills for computer science. I definitely have struggled before in some compsci classes but of course after attending office hours and reaching out to classmates for help as what college students usually do when they struggle, i was able to get back on track! my grades so far are great, I'm currently averaging around a 3.7 GPA and i did have prior knowledge to coding before entering my freshman yr of college thru AP computer science but trust me youll be fine as they will go through what AP Comp Sci taught me one more time. if this is ur first time coding, choose your professors wisely and you will have a successful time at CPP. dont hesitate to ask me any more questions! cheers :)
@@JeremysTutorials woahh congrats!!! you've worked hard :)) thank you for taking the time to respond and giving me hope in CS LOL okay one more question (sorry), is CPP a semester or quarter system? I've tried researching about it but only got information about there being a semester conversion in 2018. Like does that mean that CPP is now running on a semester system?
It really depends, currently I'm doing Monday - Thursday for my classes. My Mondays and Wednesdays are really light and my Tuesdays and Thursdays go from 10AM - 8PM. So it really depends how your son schedules out his classes. As far as professor recommendations, those can be found online through Reddit and Rate My Professors for the most part of Cal Poly Pomona as there are a lot of them. Thanks!
Cool video! Question: what’s been your experience with competition for class registration, and being able to get the classes you want? I’m doing CS and cpp is one of my top choices!
hey there, class registration isnt too bad here at cal poly depending on ur registration times. we have a good amount of CS classes open according to my experience but be sure to pick the good professors! ive never really had any troubles getting classes at CPP even without priority registration. we have a good amount of knowledgeable professors here at CPP that i believe can lead me and you to a successful CS career. cheers! :)
@@JeremysTutorials Hi please tell me what is you teacher for CS? Did you choose only online clases ? Or just for the pandemic are virtual . My son stared next year CS and I am looking for good advice. Thank you
Greetings from a cpp CS alumnus 😊 Nice video 👍🏻 Have you had in person classes since this video? Wouldn’t mind seeing a video of that. Ah the nostalgia 💚💛
Thanks Jeremy Films - future Computer Science major (game designer as well) is there any cons about taking Computer Science at CPP? The school seems chill but wonder if it would be a good fit for me. Also how are the internship opportunities in computer science at CPP?
hey there! i would say there aren't many cons to taking comp sci at CPP but i do have to say like many other schools there are definitely much better professors than others regarding teaching lectures and sometimes spots do run out quick for the good professors, but once you have a great professor to teach you, they are really knowledgeable and helpful! internship opportunities are nice because on our campus sometimes we do these fairs where big companies would come and recruit once in a while and we also get lots of emails weekly regarding open internship opportunities from the compsci department. cheers!
i'm not sure; i would assume the synchronous is better if you want to follow a certain pace and be a bit more motivated, but asynchronous allows you to go on your own pace when you have the free time.
I'm going to have to decide on a major soon but I still don't know which one to choose, either Computer Science or Electronic & Computer Engineering. Which one would you recommend?
hey ryan, thank you for stopping by! i wish you the best of luck in your college years. ECE is more towards the hardware, so you'll be learning more about circuits, signals, systems, and mainly computer hardware and architecture. I believe the courses will be more hands on than CS, but don't quote me too much on it as it varies from school to school. CS is more logic and theoretical in computer programming, such as understanding algorithms and data structure. both are great paths, but it's more on your preference whether you're more into software development, or hardware development. hope this helps!
i honestly picked computer science myself because i'm more into making my own apps, games, and stuff that people can easily download. i've always wanted to make my own stuff or help companies with debugging software, coding in new parts and other features that people can download in their mobile phones and such :D but again it does come down on preference on what you like doing, i don't want to recommend something to you and you end up not liking it, but i'd rather explain to you in detail so you can choose accordingly.
Thanks for the day in the life video. I just got accepted to CPP as a cs major. The question, is there plenty of opportunity in internship or careers after graduated as cs major? (My state college, which is UH manoa is kind of trash at cs so I'm planning to attend cpp by paying out of state tuition:(
congrats on your acceptance! :D i hope to see you around. there are internship and career opportunities and plenty of them in fact. it sucks that you're paying out of state tuition, but great choice though :) you can always reach out to professors for advice after graduation
@@JeremysTutorials Thank you for the response! Ya, it's a lot of money to afford the out-of-state tuition but I believe that a cs degree or career will worth more than that tuition at CCP. Also, I plan to transfer from my state college, but I heard that cs major is most difficult and competitive to transfer with so I'm kind of stressing out about my college decision haha
i wouldnt recommend living near the main Pomona area as there is a lot of gang activity and criminal activities happening around. I would recommend you find rental areas near Walnut, Diamond Bar. Try to find areas east of the 57 Freeway and those areas are generally safe!
