Jeremy Roenick is hands down one of the most honest guys I've ever heard. He was such a tough and dirty player, but his interviews always seem really honest.
absolutely-Roenick was fucking nuts and just such a tremendous tremendous player. I dont think he gets his due. One of the best I've ever seen. He was Ovechkin before Ovechkin. His first few years in the league the guy was decking people and scoring like 50 goals. Madman
My favorite JR story is when he signed with the Flyers and Berube was one of the couches. Bernie once told him on the ice he was gonna “get him”. Years later JR gets signed to the Flyers, and his first day in the locker room in walks Berube and Berube decks him. Walks away saying “told you I was gonna get you”. JR tells the story and it’s hilarious
I totally agree, but once they called it "dead puck era" it was clear it was never going to get the respect it deserved from the next hockey generation.
always loved the come back Patrick Roy said to Jeremy about how Patrick couldn't hear Jeremy bc he has his 2 Stanley cup rings clogging his ears! hahaha
He’s my cousin I’m going to his house for Fourth of July. Last year he had to set up firework and he got SO many mosquito bites because he lives on a lake and his daughter said I think he may have malaria😂.
Roenic came a skated with us while we practiced as a high school team back in 05.voorhees NJ. He lived in our town Moorestown. Coolest moment i ever experienced. I’m a devils fan but always a soft spot for lindros and roenick
@@GoombatzGaming I haven't been able to embrace Barstool. They've got some good contributors, but so many useless fratboy ass hats who know nothing about sports.
I was at the Coyote playoff game 7 against the Blues in Feb, 1999. It was in Phoenix when Roenick came back from this injury, Blues won 1-0 in OT. One hell of a game!
What a fucking animal. Fist of all Roenick is one of the best hockey players I have ever seen and is easily one of the most under-rated players of the last 30 or so years. The guy was unreal. I dont think he even comes close to getting his due. I had not heard this story before-geez that is crazy-guy breaks his jaw and finger and plays 3 and a half minutes of a power play-just fucking nuts. LOVE JR and LOVED watchig this guy play hockey-how can anyone not?
@@jimmyfreeman6755 it wouldn’t be as entertaining hearing it from me and not him cause he told me it years ago but he basically said it felt really good giving it to JR lol.
kyle marquis no problem but when every podcast you watch and download are on the biggest platform in the world you want to try and keep everything on one platform and not start bouncing from one app to the next app.
I can't for the life of me find a clip of Roenick boarding Modano on March 23, 1999 that eventually led to this hit as retribution. Roenick was even suspended 2 games for the hit, but I can't find any video of that game or the hit on Modano. I've been searching forever.
That’s not the way it went down JR. I remember the coverage in the DMN & by Razor Reaugh’s pregame like it was yesterday. Both Roenick & Tkachuk were chirping in the media that Dallas was soft. Also, JR said that he couldn’t understand a word that Hatcher said. Then he continued to refer to him as “Lurch.” Big pregame words that were paid back in a absolute crushing hit. Albeit, Hatcher’s feet intentionally left the ice. I don’t recall another player mimicking or making fun of Hatcher while he was the Captain in Dallas again.
I lived in DFW and followed the Stars that season as well and remember the "Stars are soft" talk that season. I remember the implication being that despite how great the regular season was, Colorado or Detroit was going to take them out.
Jr was insanely good. And almost destroyed, Mats sundin for life. Missed him by two inches. I wish he had not missed. Insanely good player. And loved to crunch people. Guy was a small Gordie howe.
An extra bit of this that I don't know if Roenick understands fully is that Hatcher and Modano grew up together. They were friends since childhood. Hatcher didn't just see his teammate who could get traded or whatever get KO'd he saw his childhood friend get knocked out. Best believe he wasn't going to let that fly.
when Roenick was young on the hawks ...he was as good a scorer as there was in the league...in fact playing NHL 94 my friend always picked Chicago for Jr and I picked Vancouver for bure....Roenick was a scoring machine in the game and hard to get off the puck which was his early career on the ice as well
People give JR a tough time, but he's got that television personality. I think he's earned it over the years. Watching him in his prime was pretty electric, pure skill in an era of hardcore goons.
They should have talked about JR's first game back wearing a special helmet. Jaw still broken he played vs St Louis. We thought he'd take it easy but first shift out he leveled a guy

Fast forward to 2-days later and I'm back home in Dallas at the Stars/Coyotes game and watch our captain, Derrian Hatcher, completely obliterate Roenick. Payback was a bitch. Add the fact that the elbow pads are hard plastic which makes it way more brutal. It's essentially a flying knee at that point, it's surprising that Roenick was able to play anymore without going into shock. That kind of injury leaves mma fighters on the ground and they get carried out on a stretcher.
