Change Proteus Trace Size and Layer for Auto Router

  • Choosing Layers and trace size for specific nets is a critical feature in any PCB design. Proteus allows you to assign trace size and rules to individual nets or classes within your design. This will work for both the auto-router as well as the automatic trace selection. In this video, I also show how we can choose a specific layer for a net class and a handful of other tips and tricks. I hope you enjoy and I look forward to hearing your feedback and questions.
    Thank you!

    A setting up design rules video would be very interesting. In particular I'm wondering how to prevent Proteus from auto routing power and ground traces when I already have a power and ground ground plane...

    How can i add a battery on the bottom side of the board?

    • @ScottCard
      @ScottCard  2 года назад

      Thank you for the question. First, import or create the footprint for the battery. If you need to make your own, this video may help: ruclips.net/video/r4WuFrLfqRc/видео.html
      Next, simply mirror the part in the PCB layout (Ctrl+M). The silkscreen should now be magenta, indicating that it is on the bottom. You can double check by using the 3D viewer if it is enabled on your version.
      Hope this helps 🤓

    • @ScottCard

      1.6mm is a standard for FR4. It can be changed by using the Layer Stackup found under the Technology tab.
      Hope this helps!

    Since I don't know how to ask a generic question (outside of the specific topic of this video) I'll do it here. I had a project involving switching 230V AC on a board via SSR, load about 300-500W, depending on which parts on the output side were active at the time. I ordered the boards from Chinese manufacturer and copper there is pretty thin. I've never managed to route the same connection both on top and bottom copper (same route on both). Is it even doable? To have the same track on top and bottom copper?
    Regards,
    Samo

      @ScottCard  2 года назад

      Yes, you can use a zone as a trace. Once made, coppy it and change layers so you now have it on top and bottom. You can then use the via stich to connect them. Also, if you specify 2oz copper it will help but at 2 or 3 amps this should not be an issue. Hope this helps.

      @@ScottCard It does help. While I was going through your videos I was playing with this on the second monitor. I'll check it tomorrow with the Seeed guys if it works, but I may have found a very simple solution. Copy route. Move it aside. Change layer. Move it on top of the original. You get some complaints from the software, but Gerber Viewer seems happy.

    How can I make ground grid in proteus

    • @ScottCard
      @ScottCard  Год назад

      One of the options when you are creating your ground pour is the "Type". It is defaulted to Solid but you can change it to hatch, then modify the spacing. Let me know if this helps or if you would like a specific video on this!

    • @ScottCard
      @ScottCard  2 года назад

      Your best bet would be to convert your image to a BMP then import it into Proteus. You may be able to change layers then or trace over it but, your NET list will not be present. Not the best tool for the job maybe.

    How can I add soldermask to vias

    • @ScottCard
      @ScottCard  2 года назад

      The easiest way is to use a pas instead of a via. You can then attach it to a net. Alternatively, you can add via stitching. See this video and let us know if it helps. ruclips.net/video/t5ruPdWfC4Q/видео.html

      Sure thing. But in the meantime, you can draw it wining a mechanical layer. The board house will see this as a cut out. Otherwise, just draw the shape as board edge. A little long winded but, this may also help:
