- Hello I'm an MP, Hello I'm an M6. In this video we discuss the ongoing debate as to what is the better camera: The Leica MP or the Leica M6. Both have their strength's and weaknesses but does that really matter? We discuss. Hopefully we can put this issue to rest.

Thanks for the video here. Not hating here at all but did want to note that you forgot the mention the most significant difference and that's the rangefinder patch in the MP is much improved over the M6. I have both and there is definitely a difference, especially in backlit situations. You can have the M6 upgraded to the MP version so again to your point you don't have to get the MP to accomplish this but that is an important difference to note.

A bit more clarification here. The RF mod is a "flare resist" kit (So it still flares). It doesn't quite match the MP.
The MP rangefinder has the added benefit of additional flare paint and multi-coating; this makes it a virtually flare free RF experience. BTW: The later digital M's also have this revised RF design.
Can you tell us which digital M has this antiflare-coatings?
well MP is my dream camera actually... the beauty of the classic Leica's body mixed with lightmeter and very clear patch even in backlit... thank for the video
In 2021 the price of a used M6 is so high it makes more sense to spend the money on a brand new MP that has never been used has a 5 year warranty?
Nice videos. I got the Leica bug in 2009 or so with the CL. Since then I have had the M8, M-E, M3, and Minilux (to convert the lens to an M mount eventually) The M8 and M-E are sold sadly, but the M3 and CL will likely be in my collection until I'm gone. Now I'm waiting patiently for the next version of the M with a Q and SL sensor (or better) in it.
Excellent video guys.I had an M6 a while ago and have played with a few MP's but,somehow,none have felt quite as nice or as special as my M4 from which I will NEVER be parted.
You're probably not gonna be the last to say that either. I know a lot of people who consider the M4 the best of the best.
You guys should do a video on the M2 vs M-A if you guys have the chance. That would be an interesting comparison.

And six years later, the price level for the M6 is itching so close to the price level of the MP that the cost advantage evaporates for the M6.
They’re more the same than ever now that the 2022 M6 exists with a brass body and the same rangefinder mechanism as the MP.
The finder on the MP is superior. Maybe not compared to the price difference, that's subjective.
The MP is much more comfortable to use (had both). Besides the obvious difference with the view finder (brighter on the MP), the film advance lever just feels more buttery smooth. Is the price difference justifiable? Maybe not unless you find a great deal on the MP!

The zinc top-plate on the M6 is susceptible to corrosion, namely in the form of bubbling or pitting. This makes daddy saddy.

Both. Because they are made of zinc. Only corrodes if you store in leather cases

They are mostly the same. But if I have enough money, I will definitely go for the Leica MP.
MP is revival for classical M3. M7 is my first and M3 is my second.so far so good!

The biggest diff in usage is the fact that Leica took out an element in the M6 and M7 viewfinders to save cost and they can flare easily. They fixed that in the MP and MA. You can install an MP VF in an M6 but that will run you about a grand.

I liked the vid and it made some good points. Have a CLE set, much used and it gets by. Spend more of my photo dollars on Rollei MF. Both of those cams are statement items: "I shoot film and can afford the good stuff". If someone could only make a cam that could condense that to: "I shoot good stuff" he would have a coup. Is NYC the greatest street photo venue or what?

The best thing about the MP are that it can use the Leicavit ! The M6 can have problems with the lightmeter electronics and the lightmeter spot on the shutter curtain !
i m not too sure whats the kind of finder (mp or m6?) on my m6 millenium BP, but i pretty much prefer the mp kind of rewind knob over the rewind knob of normal m6 cameras. i have heard of it being broken before, from too much usage (the angled one). i prefer the solid built, but slower knob.. haha..

Where does the M-A fit into the line up?
If you are left-eyed, the MP is the clear choice. It will take the Leicavit baseplate rapid advance.

Yeah, check out our instagram accounts. Mine are all M3 for film and Brett's are with an MP. Funny thing about the video is that since these are all little light boxes all the Leicas will take the same photo as long as the same lens is used. Next time we'll do a comparison of the different images an M3 and MP can take.

Sorry, but I can't take anyone talking about the technicals of a camera serious while they leave the aperture priority of their digital camera on auto in these circumstances.
Herobox 1248 'aperture priority ... on auto' isn't even a thing so back in yer box.
