If I had a nickel for every time UCLA came back from 30+ points down in the second half the last few years, I’d only have two nickels, but it’s strange that it happened twice.
I’ll never regret the night I randomly stayed up and watched the UCLA vs Washington st game. I have no stake in either team and yet it was one of the best games I’ve ever seen.
Ive done that since a young age I always watched those super late west coast games I just couldn't get enough football and would watch anything some great games over the years.
The fact that Frank Reich, a career backup QB for a majority of his playing days, had at the time, the greatest comeback in college football history ( filling in for Boomer Esiason) when Maryland came back from down 31-0 to The U AND as the Buffalo Bills QB (filling in for Jim Kelly) came back from 35-3 against the Houston Oilers (still the greatest comeback in NFL history) in that 1992 Wild Card game will always be astonishing to me.
One comeback you should consider for part 2 is the Ty Detmer led BYU comeback, NCAA record highest scoring tie game, 52-52, versus Marshall Faulk and San Diego State in 1991. Down 45-17 halfway through the 3rd quarter coming back and scoring a last minute TD to tie the game and secure the WAC conference championship. Love all the videos! Keep up the great work!
Yeah the UCLA vs Washington St game was crazy as a UCLA fan I was so angry from watching that game I thought about turning the tv off multiple times don’t know how UCLA pulled that off…
UCLA fan, my dad went to bed saying Kelly should be fired on the tarmac right before the run started. It was 11pm in california when I woke him up to watch the last three touch down drives. We both still can't stand Kelly, but that was a crazy game to watch
Stanford vs Washington, 2000. Down 6-24 midway through the 4th, Stanford scored, converted 2-pt, recovered onside kick, but it was nullified by a BS offsides call. Back then, the penalty resulted in a rekick ... which Stanford recovered. Stanford easily marched down and scored. Stanford recovered another onside kick. Stanford easily marched down and scored with less than a minute remaining to go up 28-24. But, UW marched right back, covering 80 yds in 3 plays to win the game 31-24 ... but Stanford really converted 3 onside kicks in a row in the greatest comeback that wasn't. BTW, UW was 11-1 that year, won the Rose Bowl, finished #3 and many people still have them as the best team in the country ... so, it wasn't as if Stanford converted those onside kicks against a crappy, poorly prepared team.
Literally made an account to tell you that you’re killing it with these videos man. Missing college football every day and you’re videos are making it better. Keep it up.
Nice to see some old school games on here. I was a freshman at OSU when they had that comeback against Minnesota. I remember watching in stunned disbelief that we had fallen behind by 31 points to a team we hardly ever close games with, let alone lost to. But I remember telling my dad OSU is still going to win this game. That second half was much more fun to watch than the first :)
That Houston-Pitt game was amazing. I remember watching it live. Recovering an onside kick is hard, but back to back onside kicks and the go-ahead two point conversion? Damn near impossible. I doubt we see that again.
Arkansas State was down 31-6 at the half to Memphis in 2007 and won 35-31. Arkansas was down 31-7 to Ole Miss and won 38-37 in 2017. There were about 55 blown big leads while Bert was at Arkansas, but I don't wanna talk about those lol
Yeah, I don’t know what happened with Bielema’s last two years there. It was almost like he didn’t want to be there anymore despite having the Hogs going in the right direction after year 3. If so, it really showed in his game management decisions blowing games against TAMU, Mizzou, and Miss State. Then, y’all got landed with the Chad Morris era. 🥴😮💨
I know it was only 20 points, but it feels like the 4th Quarter comeback in the 2015 Cotton Bowl would fit in well here. So many moments when the game looked done and dusted
@7:20 my brother and I both played D-End and the one thing that's very important to learn is to stay home and have containment. You want to flow with the play but you gotta keep your half of the field. Very well coached and well played. Probably one of the biggest plays of the game. Defensive tds can flip the game in your favor faster than anything else!
@@thenaturalmidsouth9536 So true, and he still managed to rewrite the NCAA D1 record book for quarterbacks. And then thanks to being at BYU and not say Michigan, got utterly shafted on Heisman voting.
These comebacks are why you keep playing no matter the score. People complain about running up the score but this video proves that it's possible to come back from 40 down.
Part 2: 2014, Baylor's down 58-37 to TCU at home in the 4th qtr. BU roars back with 24 unanswered points in a 61-58 win. 2013: Florida State vs Auburn national Championship. I think Auburn was in front most of the game, one time up 21-3. FSU storms back to win the last BCS title.
Get it right…it was 35-3 at half and my Cowboys got wrecked in the second half lol. Oklahoma State has plenty of dark spots in football, that one really stands out.
That Maryland Miami comeback is so underrated because the fact the Miami was such a dynasty back then and that was also in the orange bowl. Also 31-0 comeback is one of the biggest comebacks in football history, and it was all In the second half
Miami was the defending national champions. The 1st year as head coach for Jimmy Johnson. Later that season, Miami blew the Boston College game at home in spectacular fashion
We need Craziest Near-Comebacks in College Football History next! Sometimes a near comeback that falls short (or when a team comes all the way back and even leads but the opposing team gets a score at the end to win) is just as if not more entertaining!
Wisconsin in the 1963 Rose Bowl was down 42-14 to Southern California in the 4th Q and lost 42-37. Had there been one more minute in the game, Wisconsin would have won.
Bama in '83 was down 34-7 at PENN ST as the 4th started. Furious comeback. We scored to tie with seconds left but receiver ruled out of bounds. He wasn't. If instant replay in effect we'd have won 35-34.
I'm biased but two you should look at: Boise State at Florida St 2019: in which a True Freshman QB for BSU leads an 18-point comeback against a P5 school in his college Debut Boise State at Colorado St 2017: Boise State comes back from the dreaded 28-3 to force overtime and win on a forced fumble by future Dallas Cowboy Leighton Vander Esch (including two scores and an onside recovery in the last minute of the game).
I’ll never forget being in the Auburn Student section for the State game and watching us come back. Priceless fan experience for me considering I grew up hating Auburn my whole life.

Oof, yeah. I knew that the A&M/UCLA fiasco (if you're an Aggie) would be on here. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that is historically the biggest deficit to comeback and win. It was also the first game of the A&M season that year and when everyone knew the coach, who was already on the hot seat, wasn't going to be there the next year.
One minute the home fans are talking about where to go for pizza to celebrate, then 45 minutes later they are talking about where to go to drown their sorrows.
Bro that colorado kansas game though… I need to find the full game highlights because how did Colorado keep giving them the ball back without running like any time
That reminds me when Frank Reigt made a comeback for the Buffalo Bills vs. the Tennessee Oilers in AFC Divisional Playoffs. Biggest comeback in the NFL!!!
If you do a part 2, I recommend Penn State's comeback against Illinois in 1994 (down 21-0 after one 28-14 at halftime, and 31-21 after three) as well as in 2016 against Wisconsin.
Come on, that UCLA Wash St score is ridiculous. And you see similar scores every week in college football. Is defense even an after thought at the college level? Amazing
IDK if it's something you are interested in doing, but I think a cool video idea would be combining comebacks with almost comebacks or you could do it for different ideas as well it's not necessarily reliant on comebacks as a topic.
