I thank you for speaking on the Black Lives Matter movement at the end of this video. As a Black person, it’s been difficult to watch non-Black creators who are not acknowledging the movement on this platform for the sake of “keeping politics off of RUclips.” Your acknowledgement not only shows that you care and you understand the gravity of the situation, but it also makes me excited to continue to support you because I know that you fully value my life and the lives of so many other Black people. Much love 🖤
thanks for replying. I've been sharing a lot more on IG these last couple of weeks. It was hard to post this today tbh. I have been holding onto it because I shot it just as the BLM protests were starting. I'm really committed to spending more time learning history and helping share info online as well as doing my own work instead of doing this stuff. I think videos are going to be few and far between for a little while. Love to you xo
hot for food there are many educational resources that I know of online (particularly on IG) including some educational posts that I’ve been making myself. I will share some with you, I know they’ve even been helpful for me for learning about my own history. Keep an eye out for my dm on IG @slaurensanchez , I will gather some things and send them your way!
I think a lot of people just don't know what to say or don't want to say the wrong things. I have seen many people being attacked for even having a conversation. So some are doing their part in silence. Which is ok too.
Omgosh I have been craving these donuts too!!!! Yes!!! Cant wait to try the recipe. Also, I am so glad you're speaking about BLM and systemic racism on your platform. Thank you for using your privledge to speak out and encourage people to educate themselves. As a mom of two mixed girls and a wife of a black man, the fear and anxiety I feel is off the charts, thank you for speaking up for my family and all people of color (I've been following you on Instagram and your posts have been on point).
Hey Ashley... its really the least I can do. I have this platform so I have to speak out. I wish you didn't have to live in fear and anxiety. Practically everyday there has been a new case of another beautiful Black life lost, and I know that's nothing new. I am listening and paying attention. Sending you lots of love xo
YES!! i have been craving donuts and there are basically no vegan ones here in cincinnati!!! thank you!! and thank you for using your platform to support the movement, every single voice counts!!
OMG! I have been looking for a vegan old fashioned donut recipe everywhere. I am definitely trying this! Also, thank you for taking the time out to speak on the current issues and what you are doing to help fight racial injustices. I know that your platform is geared toward food and very lighthearted material but to continue on and stay silent as if nothing has happened speaks a louder message. So thank you again for being open.✊🏾
Thank you for using your platform to speak about racial justice despite the hms and haws you might receive. This recipe looks delicious, though I am partial to the Krispy Kreme style glaze donut as basic as that sounds LOL. Cheers from Mpls USA.
Can't wait to try this one. You never disappoint!!! I did recently see a video that claimed twisting the cutter, effects how the doughnut raises while frying. The twist action " seals" the edge prohibiting a good rise. Cut straight down with a well floured cutter. Sounds plausible to me and thank you for providing a great recipe to test this theory.
I love how you always critique your food and give us your honest review, and what you could do to change them the next time. Not like everyone else that just says, "Make these, they're good!!"
I definitely need to try this! Thanks for veganizing it. Question - i see a lot of egg replacement suggestion being flax but chia is not mentioned as often. Is there a reason for that? How is flax egg better than chia egg?
its basically the same but I find ground flax to be more common. ground white chia would be best - same reason as golden flaxx - just a preference for the final look of something like these doughnuts.
hot for food I know, I know...I get that. But I don’t do oil. Maybe I’ll just experiment with baking...I have a lot of raccoons and possums that come around and I can always give them the “oopsies” 😄
Thank you Lauren for another awesome recipe! And thank you as well for everything you’ve been sharing on your Instagram in regards to BLM. It has helped me a lot in my efforts to educate myself.
Next time you're in Berlin, check out this vegan donut place: facebook.com/brammibalsdonuts/ I prefer the normal donut, with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon on top.
Omg I want to make these so bad! I’ve been craving old fashioned donuts and there aren’t any vegan ones in my area. I don’t have some of the supplies or ingredients but hopefully I can figure it out!
Hi Lauren, how important do you think the plastic wrap is for the dough? I really dislike using plastic wrap. These look really amazing, so I’d still like to make them though ❤️
Just Add 1-2 Tablespoons of Applecider Vinegar, you should be Good with Everything you added, also 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract would have given a Yummy Taste
This is the first time “Hot for Food” has popped up in my RUclips feed in AGES; I, honestly, do not remember the last time I saw one. Yay! Are you in the U.S. now, Lauren?
hot for food Welcome to sunny California! I am up north. I felt sure you had not stopped making content, but my feed has full of so many other things, yours just never showed up. LOL! Busy time. 😳
I think instead of banana I would use ground chia and water to make like a "chia egg". That way you won't see it if it were flax and you won't taste banana :D
I’m double commenting lol maybe you could add like all sour cream/yogurt like you said and then do extra apple cider vinegar or lemon juice for the sour aspect? Maybe even adding vegan sour cream/ yogurt to the glaze would be good?
Thank you for the recipe I usually look forward to them, however, I would have preferred the video without the BLM lecture. As a black woman who has dealt with racism, I understand all to well, there needs to be change but supporting heinous violent groups like BLM & the riotous mobs that are destroying and killing in the so called name of G. Floyd and seeking justice, nope it is not right. No change will be effected and truth can not prevail because these groups are silencing their own voices with their despicable actions. My question is...why is it just NOW that so many want to jump on the band wagon of the 'black' side and have moral outrage and indignation? So many other lives have been lost in similar horrific circumstances. Where were the donations, speeches, celebrities, marches and the desire to educate then? Where is the indignation for the black officers who will not return home to their families because they were murdered by mobs who were suppose to be standing for Black Lives Matters? Where is the outrage and call for justice and the march for retired black police capt. David Dorn shot by looters outside of the pawn shop he was trying to protect. The watched him bleed to death while filming it live for fb, where is his justice?
I agree with you on "where was the outrage, donations, marches and desire to educate" before. I admittedly was ignorant and didn't pay attention to something I thought wasn't my problem. I completely admit the MASSIVE problem in doing that. I can only get informed and learn as much as possible now. Of course, as a Black woman you shouldn't trust that / me as action is what is important, and you are rightfully mad. From what I've come to understand is that the #BLM organizations aren't the ones inciting any violence. They are peacefully protesting. I've seen a lot of police violence though. Not everyone will agree about the protesting but I just felt I wanted to say something since I taped this a couple days after George Floyd was murdered and it seemed insensitive to not mention anything since there was a global movement happening and a lot of people were affected and finally paying attention. I can't pretend to understand what it's like to be Black in America or elsewhere, but at least us sleepwalkers are waking up to some real hard truths about the world we live in. I'm sorry if my mention was upsetting to you
@@hotforfood Lauren I very much appreciate your response it is one of the most honest exchanges I feel that I personally have witnessed in all of the malay. I am not angry and I apologize if I presented that way. I am very concerned but yet hopeful. My prayer is that a rush to choose sides would be reigned in and the various factions would stop shouting at one another and come and let's reason together. I am glad that others see injustices but what I would ask...see them all. BLM is not what it presents I can promise you that but more importantly we the true peaceful protesters can effect change with a unified calm truth filled voice. I dont have a following ir huge platform but many of you do. I and many others like me do not want donations, sympathy or political/media grandstanding. The desire is for fair and equitable treatment for every human regardless of color,. Let's take race out of the equation for once and just come together and talk. You have no idea how much I miss sour cream glazed Timbits as a vegan and these look like they could fill that void lol

No excitement compares to the notification I get when Lauren uploads.
9:20 Where I'm from, old-fashioned donuts aren't the ones with the "crinkled" kind of top. Those are called sour cream donuts.
they are the same thing I always thought !
@@hotforfood Perhaps just a regional difference?
Thank you for using your platform to speak about racial justice despite the hms and haws you might receive. This recipe looks delicious, though I am partial to the Krispy Kreme style glaze donut as basic as that sounds LOL. Cheers from Mpls USA.
Delicious looking as always! Loved your bit at the end too and I'm happy you mentioned it.

AWESOME!
Damn these look so good! Old fashioned plain are my absolute favourite doughnuts. I'll make these but just unglazed, thanks Lauren!
I was thinking about making doughnuts this week and here you are blessing me with a recipe :)
Hope you enjoy
looks amazing as always! At 11:42 "don't waste those holes!" LMAO
Thanks also for donating and talking about the real shit, Lauren!
I love how you always critique your food and give us your honest review, and what you could do to change them the next time. Not like everyone else that just says, "Make these, they're good!!"
These look amazing! Great job!
I followed Chris Morocco’s donut yoghurt using vegan yoghurt and it turned out amazing! definitely worth a try x
Would you recommend Apple sauce as a banana replacer?
They look so delicious! I can't remember the last time I had a donut lol. Thanks for sharing!
💕💕 thanks for speaking up, I look up to you, and your learning helps my learning. Now I want some donuts.
Awesome job, Lauren, on your legit-looking “sour cream” donuts (and your charitable work).💗🌸
Thank you for sharing!!! We love you so much Lauren
I'm gonna try these but I'm gonna use a powder egg replacer and tofutti sour cream with a bit of ACV to make it a bit more sour.
I wish I was your neighbor 😂 we could be trading all the vegan treats!
I appreciate everything about this video!
Lovely ending as well.
I love the critiquing and the gears turning.
they look SO GOOD!
I can’t wait to try these! Old fashioned/ sour cream donuts are my favourite
So good!
I’ve heard that the wetter the dough is, the burstier the top is.
oh interesting!
sam m talking dirty 🤣

These are perfect for Father’s Day brunch this weekend 😍
i frickin love donuts🖤

These are my favorite donut! Any tips on baking them instead of frying?
eeeh I mean it's not authentic if its not FRIED!!! :)

Haha watching with Sparkle my cat again. She loves your videos!
Thank you Lauren for another awesome recipe! And thank you as well for everything you’ve been sharing on your Instagram in regards to BLM. It has helped me a lot in my efforts to educate myself.
You are so welcome!
I've been trying to perfect vegan jam filled donuts but this would be a good diversion from that!
Omg I will definitely be trying this recipe, maybe using a flax egg instead!!
looks so delicious wow :')

I love those overalls!
Always Tempting Tasty and True. ❤️❤️❤️
Oh man, I never fry but I'm a sucker for donuts... may have to try these!
Hi Lauren, how important do you think the plastic wrap is for the dough? I really dislike using plastic wrap. These look really amazing, so I’d still like to make them though ❤️
well you don't want it to dry out!!
Just Add 1-2 Tablespoons of Applecider Vinegar, you should be Good with Everything you added, also 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract would have given a Yummy Taste
You’re awesome, Lauren!!!
I've seen a recipe that only used yogurt as a binder so it should work
Oh god, the universe is showing me all the donuts. And I really need a donut.
yum!! defs wanna try this hehe
I wanna try these using some of my sourdough starter!!! It will add a really nice sour tang!
These look amazing!! 😋 What brand of coconut yogurt did you use?
these are Coyo and Culina
hot for food thank you! You’re amazing!
Hi Lauren, You always know what we, need ❤️ Hug's and Kisses to Snickles 😘 Blessings & lots of love from a SoCal Girl, now in Oklahoma,

The best
Holy sh*t, these look so amazing 😋
This is the first time “Hot for Food” has popped up in my RUclips feed in AGES; I, honestly, do not remember the last time I saw one. Yay!

yummy
ooh delicious
Maybe you can use aquafaba in place of the banana? And make a vegan buttermilk to help with the tang in a non vegan old fashioned donut?
Whenever I see the Starbucks old fashioned doughnut I get serious FOMO. Now I can join the party🎉
THANK YOU for making these glorious and so delicious donuts that I LOVE...VEGAN😋💃🙌🍩💕👌!!!
Yummm ❤🌱
Wow the small pieces look like timbits👌🏿
*hot for food* Good content
*hot for food* Thanks for this! Can't wait for More. Oh and Happy dare day! :d
YUMMMM!
Hi Lauren!!! Are you and Josh still together?
LOVE your channel BTW :)
mmmmm donuts
I’m such a slut for old fashion donuts 🤤😭
ooooooOoo
are they kind of like a "cheater yeasted doughnut"?
well they're cake doughnuts so no yeast! Diff texture
Lol if you can make doughnuts using banana and coconut yogurt then anyone can make them !!! This is why they say you’re above the law hahaha
hahaha 😂
I feel like old fashioned donuts have a bit of a nutmeg taste. Am I wrong folks? Let me know.
I can't remember. Would probably be delicious though!
ya you could add a pinch if you like
