There is at least one place in Lisbon that has vegan pastel de nata. That was a few years ago and I’m guessing there’s more. I live in San Francisco and NYC though....so I am beyond excited to see that you have come up with this. I will order your book!
I made these today, I think my custard was too thick for the first batch of 9. I had pastry (I used the block as I had it in) and custard left so I made another 6 but added a bit more oat milk to thin it down. I wonder if you could sub the cornflour for custard powder - it is vegan and would give it a more yellowy colour as well as thickening it. I will be making these again in a couple of weeks for a family trip so will try that out. Love the idea of adding cinnamon to the pastry. I even bought your book based on this recipe so it must be good. I haven't tasted them yet but we are doing a side by side of each one - thick and runnier
Wow.....those look so tasty, going to try the recipe over the weekend. I am hooked. Binge watched some of your videos and love your cooking style. Hod to check out your cookbook and decided to purchase all three after seeing your Jamaican recipes. Happy you love Jamaican cuisine!! Ackee and ripe plantain. OMG!! It doesn't get any better than that. I'm a proud Jamaican and still live in Jamaica!! All the best and keep safe duing this time.

Definitely gonna make these soon! My mum is Portuguese so when I was young I ate a lot of pastel de nata, and really love them. If you're visiting Portugal you should really go to "Da Terra" a fully vegan buffet style restaurant. They have different dishes every day but they usually have some vegan pastels de nata that are really nice (the dishes they have are all really good in my opinion haha). Love your recipes and videos and can't wait to get my hands on your new book!!
I am from Macau and living in the US. Macau was a Portuguese colony until 1999 so this is a treat I had every time I went home. But in Macau, it is always a battle between traditional dim sum egg tart and the Portuguese egg tart
Made these last weekend. Mind blown. They were incredible!
As a Portuguese, thank you so much for this recipe! Subscribed :)
I am so excited! I have been wanting to try these and sad I couldn't because they're not vegan. Thanks so much!!! We will definitely be making these!
You are absolutely adorable and have the personality to match 🥰 thank you for the recipe and also giving us the history on Pastel de Nata
I have waited SO long for a vegan version of this. Thank you so so much :)
Hi Gaz, greetings from the San Francisco, Eastbay. I love all of your videos. I am so glad to have found your channel during this quarantine. My book arrived today, such an attractive book, can't wait to try the recipes. Thank you so much, best wishes to you!
Thank you! There are so few vegan pastel de nata recipes out there!
Im quite excited to try these! First fell in love with them when I visited LISBON in 12/2017. I was vegan then and didn’t realize they were not. Still ate them every chance I got. So glad you made them vegan-friendly.
Been eating these the past few days! Used some store bought puff pastry that's been sitting in my fridge and vegan custard is surprisingly easy to make. One of the easiest and most tasty treats I've made. Pasteis de Belem is definitely one of my favourite desserts of all time!
This IS so simple. Thank you
For making this. Thank you for making this easy, giving alternatives.
Fantastic guys!! You are the best! Excellent choice😍 congrats👏 keep up This good work. Pastel de nata is incredible.... but your Vegan take is so much better for our health. Obrigada ! take care... a huge kiss from Portugal

Finally a faithful vegan version of Pastel de Nata. Thank you Gaz! Greetings from Portugal :)
I'm loving all the beautiful plants!
Gaz could you do more bakery videos such as muffins/cake? I know there’s loads of recipes out there but it would be really nice to have your version 😇 x
You guys, I watched the video luckily I had everything on hand, I used vegan cream from sains & the recipe is magic ... you can’t go work even if you had little here more there, the final outcome is fantastic my husband is not Vegan & he was shocked of how delicious it is 🙏🏼Thanks a million for sharing this awesome recipe that I think no one have veganised before 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just made these. Had so much fun making these.. And omg they were sooo delicious. Each bite was like wooow
Love Portuguese cuisine and culture.
Looks delicious.
There is at least one place in Lisbon that has vegan pastel de nata. That was a few years ago and I’m guessing there’s more. I live in San Francisco and NYC though....so I am beyond excited to see that you have come up with this. I will order your book!
I purchased your book! Luv it! my meat eating friends are amazed they are eating more plants now. Stay healthy Stay safe...from Oregon USA
Pastelzinho de Belém 😍
( I’m from Brazil, and you can find in some restaurants here, and I used to love it before I went vegan )
Eu comia no Habib's. Amo!
There is actually a place that only does vegan portuguese pastéis de nata! It's called Vegan Nata and it's here in Lisbon!
Omg I can revisit my childhood!!
I tried this recipe and it was so delicious 😋 My VERY non-vegan sister also loved them
I made these today, I think my custard was too thick for the first batch of 9.
I made these today and they were so tasty 😋 Thank you for an amazing recipe!
- Natas are the absolute best!! Love from Portugal 🇵🇹 💕
I can only say thank you 🙏🏼 I have to try there ASAP! I love custard tarts soooo much but never found vegan ones.
They looked really good and the crispy sound was to die for 🤤
These custard tarts have my heart! Will definitely be making this tomorrow 💗
just got your cookbook and made a few recipes. So far so Yummy!! cant wait to make the Pastel De Nata
Yeeeeees Gaz! I did them for breakfast today and, let me tell you as the sweet tooth portuguese that I am, they're pretty similar to the originals in terms of flavour!
Thank you for turning my favorite sweet vegan - I reckon my life is now complete.
👍❤️I love the new cookbook. I was very surprised to see this recipe in the book. Thank You! ❤️😋
