28:56 - I agree w/ Whitney. The noise is way down my list - it used to be quite high, though. I dislike all il4 bikes (unless they're racing at the Isle of Man), apart from the R1 cross planes. Over-square v-twins can be good. I like to be unobtrusive and waft passed traffic. I think it's classier, and has far less ego than the attention-grabbing, unnecessarily loud bikes. I don't know how loud my zx9rs are, but they're on OEM zorsts, so unless they're up around 10k I think they are pretty quiet. I wear decent earplugs so I can't really tell.
I just can’t take that versys650 criticism seriously, something thats very reliable and adequate in what it’s supposed to do is a good bike. That elitist bullshit about “soul” really annoyed me on yammie’s channel, I wish it stayed there too. Edit: I dont own a versys650 Also I don’t think you’ll find many people overrating it, most just accept it for what it is
And we have learned that if your going to be a Goldwing rider you should be a paramedic karate teacher who makes their own salsa and carries a gun and then go work at Target optical.
Loved seen the 3 of you there. Had me at Britney and Josh. They both complement really well with you. I will for sure follow this podcast if you decide to make it a thing. Good riddance.
To be fair. The other day, pulling onto the highway, I saw a bike roll by and I told my fiance "oh, I think that's a versys 650 cause of the luggage bags" cause there was nothing else identifiable about the bike. And we sat at this light for about another minute and then took off and caught up to the versys at the next light and she was all "Oh, we caught up to him!" In a 2013 Corolla sport. Got his ass, you're a 2013 Toyota Corolla non sport. A great vehicle but... Not setting anyone's hair on fire. (jealous of the storage, jealous of the mileage)
This was a pretty good listen while getting lunch ready. Fun topic. Thanks guys. To chime in a few of my own thoughts on the topics. I have yet to get an exhaust on my 701 SM. Looked at getting a Wings a few times, but....I don't know, I just haven't been able to pull the trigger on it. I put on a Cumpan dash on it, seat concepts seat, engine guard, a windscreen (which I have not put on 2 years later and probably won't...woops!). Yeah, I just felt other upgrades had more priority (and usefulness) over just an exhaust. I want to do some long range touring at some point also. I can't decide what bike I'd want to move on to for that though. I keep bouncing around between sports tourers and more road focused sport touring ADVs. Someday I'll come to a conclusion. For now....701 touring!!! lol
I don't need a loud exhaust. But the sound of a bike is a huge part of the experience for me. It's not just a sound, it's also a vibration. You both feel and hear it. If I dislike how a bike sounds there is no way I would own it.
I like my 2021 Kawasaki Z 900 RS café sound. They specifically tuned it from the factory and I think it’s perfect. Other than the fact that factory exhaust weighs a ton on modern bikes, the sound of my bike I find to be very satisfying
all the engines are archaic at this point. want a parrel twin with 270 crank? theyve been here since the 60s. weve had inline 3s and 4s since the 70s and v4s got huge in the 80s, probably bigger than they are now sales wise. engine tech has been stag in the race world since the early 00s if not late 90s. if you ask me, the industry is going backwards if not shriveling up. big singles and parrell twins is half the market even in the big highway bike market and thats really telling. its like being in the 50s again.
@@monkmoto1887 I'd make a couple corrections to what you said. Indian had an inline 4 motorcycle from 1928 until 1942, so the inline 4 has been out a very long time. Is the cross plane inline 4 not a new development? I honestly don't know. Honda had a lot of weird shit in motorcycle racing, their oval piston engine, the V5... I'm not sure when that went away, but I know it was recently so yeah, definitely post 90s for race engines. I seen to remember Honda having a 5 valve engine, but it may have also been one of those previously mentioned engines. The Harley 45 degree VTwin though is archaic. It's been little changed since the 1930s. The boxer twin is the same. And, boxer twin development went like this; 40 years ago, we'll oil cool the heads. 30 years ago, we'll water cool the heads. 20 years ago, we'll move the cams to the top. Harley development went like this; 5 years ago, we'll oil cool the heads... And yes, that is being a bit facetious. I ride a VRod for Pete's sake. And the PanAm is pretty awesome tech wise. The heavyweight Cruiser 45° VTwin though is pretty long in the tooth though. And, so is BMWs boxer by all means. Fact, Harley had a liquid cooled V4 in the 80s to be called the Harley Nova and they shelved it.
Yall shld do a weekly(or however often) moto related puzzle kind of like Car Talk used to do(or something similar). Something to make listeners ponder and engage with and tune-in next episode to hear the answer.
I'm very much in the "fake old" camp. I love classic style but don't want to deal with classic maintenance. I'm not mechanically skilled enough to deal with anything advanced and I live in an apartment complex that doesn't allow vehicle maintenance on site.
21:00 W800 Josh is talking about is Kawasaki, not Yamaha 30:45 Whitney actually described my former couple Dyna.. and it sounded Perfect with stock straight pipe (coz it's 2003 FXD) but man it's frustrating to listen to it when I was at my 9000 miles trip over the Europe. Never again I'm getting loud pipes
Haven't even rode my mt07 yet. Bought it before winter and had them store it. It can't be as cheap as my kpm lifan 200 from Amazon. Still love that little guy for getting me into motorcycles.
Looking for a name for the podcast? Just go over Whitney's one line zingers & pick your favourite. "Melted my taint" & Rock Hard Cafe" are 2 brilliant standouts just from this video.
42:10 / Whitney "Didn't understand ..." No, sweetheart, I think the poster didn't understand what came out of his mouth/fingers. Just comparing everything they had in 2018/2019 to what I rode this year, you can't lump them with all HD after the '70s. Too much change (good and bad) is happening in York, PA and beyond.
Ding Dang Kids these days!!!! Seriously, though, the reason that some motorcycles became so popular is that they were the first or best motorcycle in a particular niche for a while. They tend to stay popular after the competition begins to catch up because lust after them for years before circumstances allow them to buy one. They may have been picturing themselves riding that particular bike for several years. The SV650 and later the MT07 are good examples. When the SV650 came out, there were no relatively light (420 lbs) motorcycles that handled well and had a torquey engine that made over 60hp at the rear wheel. The reason that it became such a track favorite was that there was nothing else easily available (at relatively low cost) that could match its performance. After Suzuki made the mistake of restyling it into the heavy and ugly Gladius, the MT07 became the 400 lbs, fun-engined replacement. Compared to the typical car, these bikes (and even the heavier Versys 650) are rockets and plenty fast for many. As Spite stated, in the US, motorcycles are toys. Expensive ones. Many of us who just want an occasional ride on a motorcycle simply don't want to spend a lot of money or time on an occasionally used toy. Just cruising around and leaning into turns with minimal hassle is the goal and an expensive motorcycle it just not worth it to us. Also, dependability becomes a much bigger issue because many of us have no way to get a broken motorcycle to a shop that may well be a long distance away. Quite a few motorcycles in my area get sold "as is" because it would be too much expense and hassle to find a way to get it to a shop and fixed.
Kawasaki Versys 650 ABS LT. It's a fantastic bike. I have several bikes, 14 to be exact. I have done several Iron Butts on the Versys. 1000 miles 24 hours 1500 miles 36 hours. I prefer that bike over all my others for an Iron Butt. All my bikes have a place for a certain feeling or adventure. The Versys is perfect for an Iron Butt ride. So, Spite, Pick one of your favorite bikes and lets start with 1000 miles in 24 hours and see if your opinion changes.
Haven't read the other comments, but to me, any Harley stands out heads and shoulders above the others. Not bad bikes but totally not worth the asking price. BMW and Ducati is up there too.
SV650, I do not accept criticism of such marvelous invention. It takes a lot for any manufacturer to come up with a one time big hit, let alone a big hit that has lasted decades. I guess for the extreme talent riders the SV is so perfect that can be boring, but for most average riders, the SV package such a punch in all the right areas that there is nothing like it out there. I am heart broken that Suzuki seems to have ditched the 90 degrees VTwin design for the parallel twin design, that VTwin engine is the best most coolest full of character and reliable engine that Suzuki has ever done. The biggest mistake I ever did was to trade my 2013 SV for a 2018 Versys because of the bigger fuel capacity, only to discover I hate that parallel twin. This only shows how people crave for change, there was a time where the SV was all the rave, not it gets all the hat, the new rave is the MT 07 which is tune like a Miata, it feels that is never at rest, the engine is so reved that it would take a 9th gear overdrive to calm it down, the MT07 stress me out. I could ride the SV650 forever, it is just that comfortable, fun and relaxed, it is the perfect bike for me.
'22 scrambler desert sled rider. It definitely has an odd sitting position and cooks my cajones in the warmer months, but love the versatility, light weight, and looks vs other dual purpose bikes. Needs serious upgrades for serious off-roading in sand and mud (bigger wheels, and better suspension). Would not get a scrambler without off-road capability, not worth the effort to maintain and discomfort. Agree with MT-07 for most overrated 😝
I completely agree with the first pick of all three and partially agree with Josh's second pick, I agree the Bonneville 900 and 1200 are over rated but the Speed twin is an awesome bike. Whitney's spot on re the SV650 it was once a great bike but is now outdated but IMO Suzuki should've upped the capacity and changed the styling and it would've been good for another decade.
@@yonniboy1 Yeah it really is something special imo, I mean it can go toe to toe with modernish 600cc supersports aslong as you have modern Rubber haha
I have a newer harley-davidson, the only reason is that mine was cheaper than a gold wing and nothing else has the dealer network. I really hope to do some bigger mile trips with it.
Forgot to say how good it was to see you all together. In my humble? Don't brush it up too much. The three of you can carry raw format easily. And it suits the channel. No glitter, trimmed beards or painted nails. Just people who love bikes. And not a 'farkle' in sight. Whatever the fu*k that is.
I'm with Whitney, the SV650 got an absolutely mythic reputation for being all things to all people, but I owned one and it was relentlessly boring and without personality. It at least does you the courtesy of making a better noise than the Kawasaki p-twin.
I think the r nine t sounds pretty good. I don't really understand the hate for the exhaust note. Granted, I own one, but I don't really love it the way I have loved my other bikes. It's so uncomfortable for me
In regards to touring, I did the rolling thunder rally in New Jersey this summer on my sv650 and it really wasn't all that bad. It was around 275 miles for the day, yeah I was sore the next day but so was my buddy on his Softail deluxe. I think I'd enjoy doing a multi day tour on my sv if I'm completely honest, so yeah, people that say you "need a big bagger" are just soft
i was actually test riding an interceptor at the triumph dealership right next to geforce the other day. tons of bikes out that day, actually a lot of harleys out here in colorado
We get a return of the podcast!!!!, I'm so fucking excited. I missed that from the other channel, and now we get them back. I'm all about it. Suggestion: In Spite Of....(insert this weeks topic).
Completely agree with @whitney_does about the Ducati Scrambler being overrated. It's an awesome looking bike. I want it so bad for the looks, but compared to other bikes functionality it's sub-par. as Whitney said its desired by city dwellers but it is terrible for the job. As a city dweller, she's spot on.
Soon as Spite said "two I can't stand" I already knew it was gonna be Versys and Vulcan S. I haven't even gotten to his picks yet and I already know it's coming. Come on man cut them some slack. So they don't have the most amazing exhaust notes or most power or best anything, but they do what they do well, they look decent, they are reliable and they are CHEAP. I have 7500 miles on a Vulcan S and I love the hell out of it. A very "jack of most trades master of none" bike. Sporty handling, decent punch above 5k rpm, low enough that I can easily get on it with a f'd up hip injury. You always say it's so boring and bland but I never really see you compare to something that's better that's anywhere near the same price. So what else is there? What other sporty, comfortable bikes are there with "pizzazz" that can be had for under 7k new?
BMW boxers were always better than HD V twins. Even HD made a prototype boxer during WW2. The Army noticed how much better the german bike were than the Harley's. I had a R90/6 for a few years in the 80's
I wonder if Spite is just too heavy to enjoy the versys. It's no rocket. Nor a beauty contestant. However, 0 to 60 in around 4 sec and 1/4 mile around 12.5 isn't that bad. I would LOVE to see him do a 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile pull on it and see how slow it is. I also feel like most internet personalities despise 180° p-twins so much that they can't see the positive attributes of any motorcycle containing one.
I really hope y'all enjoy this format, it's a ton of fun for us to make, and we're working on updates already! We're also open to feedback so if you've got any suggestions drop em here!

I'm aware of the irony. What can I say? I like to root for the home team.

Such a great, easy going dynamic with everyone. All the best, Spite! :)
Loved the show. So casual and light hearted. Keep them coming
the best triple i couldve wished for a podcast, just like my yamaha, nice! more of this please!
i like this a lot, normaly i dont watch podcasts but this one is really good, cant wait for new one...
I just can’t take that versys650 criticism seriously, something thats very reliable and adequate in what it’s supposed to do is a good bike. That elitist bullshit about “soul” really annoyed me on yammie’s channel, I wish it stayed there too.
Edit: I dont own a versys650
Also I don’t think you’ll find many people overrating it, most just accept it for what it is
Name the pod cast "Quick Shifters"
It’s awesome to see you guys together and away from the you know who 😂
Just happy you all are doing well. Keep it going. 👍🤪🇨🇦
Bike banter or biker banter sounds like it would be a good name for a podcast
Josh, Thanks for clarifying what the intent is, that its not to just sht on peoples bikes.
600 or 1000cc sport bikes because you can't abuse them on the street like they are meant to be abused (unless you like running from cops)
I like my 2021 Kawasaki Z 900 RS café sound. They specifically tuned it from the factory and I think it’s perfect. Other than the fact that factory exhaust weighs a ton on modern bikes, the sound of my bike I find to be very satisfying
Brother Spite, Whitney, and Josh!!! I love that you guys are all working together. Keep up the solid work
This is such a "The Boys Are Back in Town" moment 😎
Love seeing josh and Whitney on here
A Harley simp calling a boxer twin archaic has got to be the single greatest pot meet kettle in history
all the engines are archaic at this point. want a parrel twin with 270 crank? theyve been here since the 60s. weve had inline 3s and 4s since the 70s and v4s got huge in the 80s, probably bigger than they are now sales wise. engine tech has been stag in the race world since the early 00s if not late 90s. if you ask me, the industry is going backwards if not shriveling up. big singles and parrell twins is half the market even in the big highway bike market and thats really telling. its like being in the 50s again.
Yeah he’s unlimited free passes for the crap that is Harley, but affordable, reliable, plain ..... no passes there.
Yall shld do a weekly(or however often) moto related puzzle kind of like Car Talk used to do(or something similar). Something to make listeners ponder and engage with and tune-in next episode to hear the answer.
As a diehard fan of the old CarTalk puzzler, this is a brilliant idea for these guys!
I'm very much in the "fake old" camp. I love classic style but don't want to deal with classic maintenance. I'm not mechanically skilled enough to deal with anything advanced and I live in an apartment complex that doesn't allow vehicle maintenance on site.
I agree with you- I will probably end up on a z900rs or speed twin 1200. I wanna put 10k a year on , not have it constantly needing work
21:00 W800 Josh is talking about is Kawasaki, not Yamaha
30:45 Whitney actually described my former couple Dyna.. and it sounded Perfect with stock straight pipe (coz it's 2003 FXD) but man it's frustrating to listen to it when I was at my 9000 miles trip over the Europe. Never again I'm getting loud pipes
Haven't even rode my mt07 yet. Bought it before winter and had them store it. It can't be as cheap as my kpm lifan 200 from Amazon. Still love that little guy for getting me into motorcycles.
Spite, Whitney, and Josh. This Channel keeps getting better.
Looking for a name for the podcast? Just go over Whitney's one line zingers & pick your favourite. "Melted my taint" & Rock Hard Cafe" are 2 brilliant standouts just from this video.
42:10 / Whitney "Didn't understand ..."
No, sweetheart, I think the poster didn't understand what came out of his mouth/fingers. Just comparing everything they had in 2018/2019 to what I rode this year, you can't lump them with all HD after the '70s. Too much change (good and bad) is happening in York, PA and beyond.
The last line sounds like the name for an awsome Spite's Corner segment "Whitney's Garage"
IMHO, quality time spent on just about ANY bike (w/ the rubber side down) is a good day🏁
You guys are amazing! Really good people, grate to hear your voices in on podcast! Hoping for more
Ding Dang Kids these days!!!!
“Melted my taint” 😂😅 Whitney is hilarious
"Rock hard cafe"
Great podcast. The three of you bounce off each other really well. Looking forward to more 😀👍
'22 scrambler desert sled rider.
Very COOL Enjoyed this Immensely looking Forward to more from the 3 of you. 👍👍😎
I completely agree with the first pick of all three and partially agree with Josh's second pick, I agree the Bonneville 900 and 1200 are over rated but the Speed twin is an awesome bike. Whitney's spot on re the SV650 it was once a great bike but is now outdated but IMO Suzuki should've upped the capacity and changed the styling and it would've been good for another decade.
check out the Sv1000 which they did before. Basically every suzuki sv650 till euro5 is a really good choice
@@jimmyneutron5679 I had the naked SV1000 back in 2002, IMO it was one of the most under rated bikes ever.
@@yonniboy1 Yeah it really is something special imo, I mean it can go toe to toe with modernish 600cc supersports aslong as you have modern Rubber haha
hell yeah, i was hoping you would do a podcast! love the revzilla one but it’s over for now and i need to consume more motorcycle content. 😂
Hell yeah I'm here for it
I have a newer harley-davidson, the only reason is that mine was cheaper than a gold wing and nothing else has the dealer network.
First time listening to you guys, it’s awesome and fun and knowledgeable can’t wait to hear more!
Dope The longer the better. Keep up the great work guys!!
That’s what she said.
W800 is injected, and the motor was designed in the late 90's with the bevel drive cam. The original Kawi W1 twin was a BSA-ish clone
The versys is a car replacement. As someone who rides year round nothing irks me more than fair weather riders telling me about “riding season”
2nd gen fully faired SVs are some of my favorite bikes ever lol.
I think aftermarket exhausts on the BMW boxers change them completely...
You have come to make me never be able to look at the Hard Rock Cafe the same again.
I think the r nine t sounds pretty good. I don't really understand the hate for the exhaust note. Granted, I own one, but I don't really love it the way I have loved my other bikes. It's so uncomfortable for me
I lot of guys who have been riding for over 10 years grew up riding and racing sv650s . They are not overrated but overshadowed by all the newer bikes
I thought it was blasphemous when SV650 was the first thing that came to my mind as "overrated" but I'm glad Whitney had the same idea
i was actually test riding an interceptor at the triumph dealership right next to geforce the other day. tons of bikes out that day, actually a lot of harleys out here in colorado
We get a return of the podcast!!!!, I'm so fucking excited. I missed that from the other channel, and now we get them back. I'm all about it. Suggestion: In Spite Of....(insert this weeks topic).
Absolutely love the content Spite. Didn’t know you had your own channel and didn’t know that you got let go by you know. Long format videos are 👌🏻👌🏻
Completely agree with @whitney_does about the Ducati Scrambler being overrated.
I stand (partially) corrected! Called it on the Versys but the Beemer took second over the Vulcan S... Genuinely surprised.
Spite and Whitney's excellent adventure!!!
Extra detail. Anyone who owns an SV650 has probably seen a "DIY Dealer Mode" tool. That thing says alot about the bike.
I will forever refer to the Hard Rock Cafe as the Rock Hard from now on. Thanks Whitney!
BMW boxers were always better than HD V twins. Even HD made a prototype boxer during WW2. The Army noticed how much better the german bike were than the Harley's. I had a R90/6 for a few years in the 80's
Your podcasts are the best, great fun and info. Thanks much 👍
I wonder if Spite is just too heavy to enjoy the versys.
I will always be a Honda Hotboi, from my sohc CBs to a hurricane the same age age as me to hooning a 250 scooter around the lake by my house.
