    Brother... This is the BEST review you have out there thus far. You just keeping better and better. I am a die hard vehicle enthusiast and have subscribed to all the key car review channels from motor trend down to Subaruwrxfan and saabkyke. I must give you mad props for being my favorite car review personality on RUclips. Your videos are done extremely well. There is a lot of great story telling / script involved. It's not just the typical car review video where someone is reading from a script and it starts to really drag and get boring 2 minutes into it and you realize you still have 27 minutes left! (you know who you are!). On the contrary, you bring a breath of fresh of fresh new air and originality to these types or you tune videos. The only thing I would caution you on is to try to keep the turbowski segments short and to the point. Sometimes I notice you guys just hanging out underneath the car and shooting the shit... Nearly speechless trying to find more crap to talk about. Thanks again for making me smile whenever I tune into your channel and watch your stuff. Keep up the outstanding work and you will supercede your rivals and be THE standard at which others are compared to. Please subscribe to my channel. And seriously... If you are ever in South Florida and want to do a review and test drive the bejesus out of my car to feature on your channel, I would be honored. I own a 2016 Dodge Charger RT with a Gibson cat back exhaust and KN cold air intake. You can even stay at my place and I'll pick you up from the airport as you will be my royal guest. Godspeed my friend! Norman

    Amen Dude about the gray scale everywhere, or as I call it, asphalt camo. Btw, love my '15 V60 T6 R-Design! The center stack is easy to get used to and less a nuisance than the new touch screen with it's million buried screens and fingerprints. Mine's been solid as a rock through 54K miles. Did I mention it's effing fast?!

    I spent a lot of time researching wagons to replace my VW TDI and there's not many options out there. I decided on this car but the '16 model because it still had the five cylinder engine. I test drove the '17 but it didn't have that growl like the five cylinder has. Overall, love this car!

      I have a 15' v60 with the driv-e 4 cylinder and while the acceleration is very satisfying and the highway mpg is great, it just doesn't sound that great. Whenever I drive the S40 T5 it's just so satisfying doing highway pulls and listening to the engine roar.

    Fun facts about this platform: 1) it has only a couple of months to live before it gets replaced by the V60 based on SPA (V/XC90, new CX C60); 2) Volvo makes no money on the base version in Europe - the one without any of the plastic bumper trinkets, lifted suspension, leather seats, navigation and so on. This platform was so expensive to develop and to produce that the profit margin is only in the trim options.

      Tom Yes that's exactly how I see it. The little man design for the control of air flow and the floating center stack has always been a Volvo thing.

      @@essel23fly It's the power of association. This happens to a lot of people. Yes, some of the structure is based on European Fords. But the interior is Volvo. It's like now. People know Volvo has a Chinese owner and claim such and such is Chinese influence. Yet, Volvo is designed and engineered by Europeans and Americans. It's financed by Geely. The Chinese influence is the association they project onto the vehicle.

    As you said, it seems the P38 chassis is pretty solid. it was good enough for Volvo to set a Nurburgring record with the S60 Polestar, although most of the credit for that goes to Volvo's chassis tuners

  • @v60polestar88
    @v60polestar88 7 лет назад +15

    I've gotten into so many debates about the V60 platform. Yes its dated but its just as solid as any new car out there. The moment you sit in the seats you realize how solid and well made this car is. Volvo did a amazing job with this old platform.
    This car is built like a tank and that is rare now a days. Volvo4life. And thank you for the Subaru comment. For some reason Subaru owners think the Outback is on the same level as the V60. Even with a older platform the Volvo is better built

    • @BlackMan614
      @BlackMan614 7 лет назад

      If you could get this car for around $35K it would be OK - for what they go for >$40K.... there are better options. And the Outback for >$10K less? Better option.

    • @v60polestar88
      @v60polestar88 7 лет назад +7

      BlackMan614 It's not a better option it's a cheaper option! The materials, build quality, and the safety tech is better than the Outback. I own a V60 and have driven a Outback. The Outback is not in the same league. It feels cheap and flimsy compared to the Volvo

    • @BlackMan614
      @BlackMan614 7 лет назад +1

      Better and cheaper. V60 is still on the old Ford platform - as noted in the video. The interior looks no different than my 2009 C30 - which was dated in 2009!! Do you really think this car is $15k *better* than an Outback??

    • @v60polestar88
      @v60polestar88 7 лет назад +5

      BlackMan614 If the Volvo was being compared to a Audi Allroad then maybe your point is valid. Last thing you compare is a Subaru interior to a Volvo. Even a dated Volvo interior is way better than the interior Subaru put out. They make some of the worst. Like the video said the solidness of the Volvo is unmatched even though it's a older platform. So Subaru newer platform isn't even up to the same level as Fords European platform that dates back to 2009. The Outback tech and materials is why it's a 35k car plus that econobox CVT. These two cars are not on the same level. Try comparing the Outback to the VW wagon

    • @BlackMan614
      @BlackMan614 7 лет назад +1

      35k?? Try 30k. Again... is the dated platform and dated interior worth >$10k more? I would say even an Alltrack is a better car than this V60. The V60 is on life support. It's why my local dealer has 12 un-sold V60's on the lot - all over-priced and have been sitting since spring. Car and Driver agrees with ME not you. Alltrack and Outback are both higher rated than the V60.
      I might just offer 33K for one of those 2017s and see what happens. That's all they are worth anyways.

    To get the full 295 lb-ft overboost:
    1. Fill up with 91 or 93 octane.
    2. Turn off traction control.
    3. Put transmission in sport mode.
    4. Mat the gas pedal.
    You're welcome. ;)
    As far as the shunt from a stop, I've had that happen when I'm feathering the throttle and the brake coming to a stop. Hasn't happened to me too often; only about once every 3 months when I confuse it, but it does happen from time to time. Like you said, it slammed into the closest gear it thought could do the job and ran with it.

    Savagegeese always comments about a cars lack of Aluminum suspension parts, but considering the durability of steel control arms versus aluminum. If the suspension takes a hard blow such as a curb strike or even a large pot hole, steel arms might bend but aluminum arms can crack, the crack may not be obvious, but is still dangerous. So to find out if there's a crack, a Technician must apply a dye that illuminates the crack. The weight loss of aluminum arms, for anything other than performance cars isn't worth it.

    America needs more Wagons, the Outback is the last 'good' wagon we have, and even that has started to look like an SUV as compared to the older models. They definitely won't be making a 'huge' comeback though, America has too many affection erections for SUV's.

    I know you like to geek out on the details so how about putting your cars on a Dynometer that measures power at the wheels and compare that to what the manufacturer claims?

      You dont have to get your own Dyno, maybe look at partnering with one of the local performance shops. They will probably let you run the car on the Dyno for free if you tell them they will get a mention on the best technical review channel on youtube.

    I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't mind the buttons on the center console. I've had my v60 for a few months and I've definitely gotten used to the quirks. also only 25mpg? is that not including highway because I've been ably to achieve 40 mpg in fwd v60 on a flat highway.

      savagegeese ik it's awd but 25 seemed to low for highway. My mixed driving is about the same that you got. also the transmission definitely does some weird things every once in a while like you said.

      I have a V60 and don't mind the buttons at all. It's a hell of a lot safer than a touchscreen IMO. Can't win with car journalists. All touchscreen = complain. Too many buttons = complain.
      Oh yeah, and I get 25 mpg with my AWD 2.5 L non-CC model. So 25 mpg on a taller 2.0 L sounds about right.

      I'm with you, I can't stand touch screens in cars.

    • @the80386
      @the80386 7 лет назад +3

      you're not alone. buttons are superior in many ways than one screen packed with menus holding all the features. buttons are direct (no confusion once you learn it), immediate (no waiting time to 'boot up'), tactile (feel your way into a button without looking) and cheap to replace (few dollars), not to mention redundant (only function you'll lose during a button failure is it's corresponding function. everything else keeps working). but if one of these modern screens fail, every menu in it is unusable until the whole unit is replaced, easily costing few hundred dollars if not a thousand. and don't even get me started on the ugly oil smudges and dust buildup.

    I've had my 2017 V60 CC for almost 6 years. The things I don't like, design flaws: passenger wiper sticks up too far, how can they not make it fit below the windshield? Navigation and voice command is the worst ever. The grill with the patch on the left side for supposed sporty look.

    • @PriitKaru

    I had a XC60, and in terms of floor space it's very comparable. You lose height, which makes the volume look lower than it really is. If you need to haul dogs or a few bags, it's fine. If you're hauling big boxes, maybe not.

      I like both. But new-gen cars could use more buttons on the console. I don't think they're moving in that direction, though, based on the Polestar 2 and what I've read about the upcoming 2022 XC90.

    Truth be told about Aisin Warner Trannies (SG likes!) in Volvo's they just were never flawless. Most in 2000-2007's had solenoid failure and Volvo rarely replaced the valvebodies to accurately remedy this. I'm kinda surprised that they are still in 2017 using them. It was a class action lawsuit.

    Don't know why Geese is seeing Ford in this. Go back to Volvo Concept Car s60: www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2008/12/17-volvo-s60-concept/Volvo-S60-Concept-Interior-3-lg.jpg This is a Volvo interior design of the time. It's just time has changed Volvo's design concepts. But there's some of the v60/s60 in the current car particularly the angled wood that we see in the current. Usually I like Geese's interior design comments but too tough on this outgoing Volvo. I actually think this still looks quite acceptable and you'll know where various buttons are in time. Most you don't touch because they're there for the phone. I think now this is a compelling used car. I'd skip the XC version of this and go for a regular v60. It looks like a stylish vintage wagon. The only issue for me is the lack of room in the back seat.
