      I have had two wagons. 1990 E300 MBZ and in 2006 purchased a 2006 Volvo V70R. I use a wheelchair so a vehicle that is easy to get in is critical. SUVs are to high. Also if I’m with someone they don’t need to dismantle the wheelchair. They place it in the back.
      Even if I started walking tomorrow I would still own a wagon. All the benefits of a SUV but it drives like a car not a truck.
      The Europeans have it right. Wagons over SUVs.
      BTW: my V70R is a beast to drive. 300 hp turbo and Brembo brakes. What’s not to love. I’ll keep this V70R until an all electric wagon works for me. Did I mention it has a 15 inch sub woofer in the back under the spare.

      What can I say other than: I am going to buy the full package. The T8 has enough power to accelerate the XC90 like the D4 the V60 and it was awesome. The T8 is quiet on the inside and the sound system is so good, my gf, who doubted why would you pay 3k on a sound system, said to get the system so she can use it.

    I am so glad that Volvo continues to provide good Wagons in the states. I drove a 2003 XC70 (Volvo's lifted version of the V70) as my first car and really liked it. I especially loved the 5 cylinder engine in it and have been super sad ever since they discontinued it. It makes sense why they did especially for fuel economy reasons as they could never get the efficiency they wanted out of it. I wished Volvo could make their powertrains in their cars actually reliable and easy to fix. This "twin charged" engine sound like a nightmare to diagnose problems.

And Volvo is on their way to fully electric. The next Xc90 will have a fully electric option. But if they did that now, it would be too soon.

I've had my vehicle for 3 years and it's look no worse for wear than a black colored interior. Not perfect but good enough where no one notices at all. When you buy a car like this, you'll be detailing it regularly anyway, so don't be afraid of the light colored interior, it's totally worth it!!

I hope Volvo engineers got rid of the plastic dash mounts of the 850R era that broke during the first cold snap and used metal dash mounts for this car. I noticed on your test drive you were doing the same. You could see the subtle on center adjustments you were making to keep the car straight. I own the new V60CC version as well as a one-year-old xc60. Excellent review, I do agree pretty much with all of it. I did downgrade my wheels on the xc60 form 19's to 18's - a good move - and the higher platform of the SUV does seem to have a bit more give and absorption than the wagon. The CC wagon being higher up might also add a touch of give compared to the straight wagon (won't see many of the regular wagon in US). Volvo keeps getting better, these cars are a big move upward and the wagon is a particularly refined machine, maybe more than the xc60. But as he points out in the review, they need now as they have for several generations to up their game on suspension, and while they are certainly improving, they don't match the best out there. That said I am still very much enjoying both our Volvo cars and my wife considers the 2020 V60 CC wagon the best car she's ever had.

    I knew this review was coming and I couldn't wait for it. I'm a Volvo fan (not 100% pleased with the current direction of the company) and I own the ancestor of this car, the 1990s Volvo V40. I'm also a fan of wagons. I actually see a lot of its DNA in this, even the overall side profile looks very similar, of course with much larger dimensions for the newer model. I saw multiple people complain about the ride quality. I think it's due in part to the wheel and tire size, which are just too big IMO. Since this is not a sports car, wheels that are a tad smaller could improve the ride without damaging the handling too much. I really wish Volvo would still offer 5 cylinder options, but with the insane emissions standards we have in Europe (and China) these days, it would be almost impossible for such a small company. Otherwise, I really love this car. The interiors look amazing, the exterior looks so much better than an SUV, and it's all around an amazing luxury family car.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 4 года назад +1

      Volvo, since I can remember, has this quality of a strong rebound but seemingly less compression than they should have in terms of their shock damping to spring rates. I think they need to work on that. It's revealed over certain types of roads only. I don't think it is a matter of the tires, it's the rebound and compression. Maybe the suspension can use more travel but I think it's more to do with compression/rebound.

    The issue with wagons is that most of them are luxury vehicles, and most potential buyers are not looking for anything above 30,000 dollars. Wagons are primarily family haulers, and in a world where you can buy a rav4/equinox for 25,000, why spend 40+ on a wagon which is lower to the ground and has less headroom. I am personally a real suv guy. I would take a yukon over both a wagon or a crossover anyday. But your average person is just looking for practicality for the best price and it's really just in the crossovers. If GM would make a chevy wagon based on the sedan platform they still make, it would probably sell well.

      @connorPiper0 5 лет назад

      @@james2042 The Rav4 starts at $26K, XLE starts at $27,300.
      The reason nobody knows the TourX is that nobody wants wagons in the US. Even the people in these comments who say they love wagons will just buy an SUV anyway. There is a reason the top 20 slowest selling cars have all the current wagons included.

    • @james2042
      @james2042 5 лет назад

      @@connorPiper0 I mean for the past 20 years theres been only garbage quality wagons from all the major brands, it's only recently that they are starting to become decent again. Look at the dodge caliber and whatever the hell caddy had like 5 years ago. When was the last time ford messed with wagons. For whatever reason they just dropped off the face of the earth when the tahoe/yukon twins and the land cruiser got hella popular in 2000. But once 2006 hit everyone switched to cars and development funds went into crossovers, to get 70% of a tahoe in a much more fuel efficent package, hence the crossover was born. So in that development budget there was no room for wagons, which is why the few that came out sucked ass. The only reason the regal tourx is even made is because the platform the regal is on is the only car platform GM is keeping, so they figured why not make a sportback sedan into a true wagon, as its minimal engineering to do so.

      Audis, BMWs do better over medium sized potholes and very bad surfaces than Volvos do. I actually like Volvo's ride better (than BMW and Mercedes) except over really bad roads and sudden ridges (Audis ride very well). Volvo needs to master ride suppleness. I'm disappointed that they haven't in the latest cars. They have to get it right in the next generation because that's what makes people think Audi/BMW/Mercedes are more refined. In that respect, they are. Otherwise, Volvo is close to them in ride quality.

      Yes and no. The problem with Volvo's image is the boxy 240 of the 1970s to early 1990s. The 240 was mostly a plain-Jane poorly performing, slow, not so refined car but was safe. It was Volvos best seller and lasted a long, long time. But at the same time, Volvo had the 264 which had some luxury to it. But the 200 series was a very dated car, as much as some people may love them. The boxy 700 series was introduced in 1982 with the 6-cylinder 760, not the less sophisticated 740, and it was fairly luxurious at the time. It then evolved into the 960 in the 1990s, luxurious but dated. In 2000, with the s80, Volvo moved upmarket and the boxy Volvos were gone. Ford bought Volvo and put it in their premiere group but the EUCD Volvos didn't break any ground . Geely has pitched Volvo even further upmarket and pretty much the full line is stylish luxury cars. Volvo did have some sporty cars. The 850 R, the s70/v70 R, the Polestar s60s. They weren't the AMG Mercedes or M BMWs or RS Audis, but they were quite sporty and fast.
