Oh wow.. Thank u! Finally I don’t need to pass around my 1st controller. My 2nd controller is collecting dust. How I wish PS4 programmers made this more user friendly like when you hit the 2nd controller’s button, as you did- it will automatically pop up and ask if you want to use as 2nd controller (guest mode) ,thereby no need for that log on / add new user selections, that made the flow intimidating & confusing.
The fact that I just spent half an hour trying to play NHL with my son and no obvious way to play 2p vs. He's now in bed, so I didn't even get a game with him and you have just solved the problem. I appreciate your help, thank you. But as a side note, it is a fucking shit and confusing way to do 2 player. I expect better from Sony. I've had a PS4 for 5 years but only usually play 1 player. That in 5 years how to play 2 player has never made itself obvious is pretty stupid from a design standpoint. I literally expected to turn on and see a choice of 1p / 2p. Instead I got 17 game mode options and not a single thing explaining how to play 2 player local. Anyway you solved the problem. Thanks very much.
If your still having problems on how the video is showing you then try this method below. I had the same problem and every time I went to press the second controller PS button it flashed white then it went yellow but I did the following and it worked for me. Go to settings Devices Bluetooth devices From there, hold the share and PS button on the second controller till it does a weird flash. The ps4 should recognise the device and there ya go select it with the first controller and now you have two working. :) Oh by the way Richard, get your daughter some cough medicine and she sounded bad so help the poor child.
Thanks a lot mate. I never saw anyone mention anything about adding user, play as guest. I hate ps4 and all the login confusion. Or maybe I'm just a dumb ace. Either way, thank you for this video!

I got my controller to pair, eventually. The problem seemed to be the usb cable I was using, I tried two cables, both charge phones and transfer data perfectly, but would not pair a ps4 controller. I then used the cable supplied with the ps4 which was in my room as i use it to charge my phone as it is nice and long......and ta da, paired right away. So, not sure if this is the reason or if I have two usb cables that seem to function perfectly well but have a fault that only affects this function...or sony configure their usbs differently.

i think it will only enable if your 2 players are on a online game but if it were to to a face off against each other it won'tby default , hence you guys are in the same room ..but when i get a chance i'll try it out.

press and hold the PS button then tap the share button and will connect the controller then you can proceed with this so you can play 2 players.
you need to pair it first you didn't follow my instructions my kid as sick for a few days before i posted this 2 years ago
