Welcome to the Caterham club. I've been racing mine four years and there's just nothing else like it. You're going to have so much fun. (BTW, the Lotus Seven was first made in 1957, so it's a stonking 62 years old now!)
What i love about your channel,is that, you let the driving do the talking,as you always make a point of finding B roads, wherever and whenever you can,no matter how long or short that drive is,to rev those cars... Very well appreciated that!
When he was talking about the Lotus Elise and saying Caterham have taken the the idea of less weight and distilled it! It's almost like a car channel doesn't know the car was originally a Lotus until Caterham purchased the rights to it!
Love this video! I've been driving a Suzuki Cappuccino here in Australia for 9 years and it's ethos is very much along the same lines as the Caterham! A RWD hardtop convertible weighing in at just 700kg. But with turbo noises! I highly recommend you find one for a test drive! 👍👍 Can't wait to see more on this topic James!
Funny thing is there are few supercars that would live with this Caterham on a typical twisty little UK backroad, glad you shared this and enjoyed the car. PS go and see a powerful Caterham hillclimb at Shelsley Walsh or Prescott and be amazed at the speed they achieve. Cheers.
Brilliant car! I love the fact that it's one of the lesser powered models, they look much better balanced and more fun than the crazy stuff such as the 620.
Congrats on the Caterham! Beautiful cars and excited to see future content with it! Next up would be to get a Morgan, not for weight, but for the timeless nature of the car.
Highly recommend 310S or R, decat and tune to 175bhp and let that little 1.6 rev to 8000! So much drama and many smiles at sensible (ish) road speeds 😁😁😁
Had the pleasure of testing one of these (although I drove the 420 which is mindbending) around the backroads around Silverstone, fabulous car, I got nowhere near its capabilities, complete brain re-wire required! Enjoy :)
A Caterham would be so cool and original, don’t see them around much. Another car that is pretty extreme in every sense of the word is the Arial Atom, would love to see a comparison drive between the two.
As I approach my 70s it takes me back to my 1700 crossflow seven. It had a four speed box and a live back axle with twin Webber 40s. Carburetors, for you youngsters, and 135 BHP. The hand brake was in the passenger foot well, useless when you have a full harness belt on. I see that the insane indicator switch has not changed, happy days indeed. If anybody has not driven a 7 I suggest you rectify that ASAP, I defy you not to have the most fun that you have ever had with your clothes on.
I have a little 1.6L 2007 125 Roadsport - for Kent B roads on a Sunday morning I'd rather have this than my Vantage -= and ignore the comments about huge power - you can have just as much fun :-)
I always hoped you'd get something nippy & fun like a Lotus. Chateram, well done. Don't understand the lack of views versus some of the other JWW content. This is more affordable, more relatable to the average person and more exiting at legal, or near legal speeds. In a couple of years I could see you bombing around Britain and Europe in a new Corvette. Slightly blasphemous, very entertaining.
Based on what you are describing about this car James, you can actually go with a used one and have it refurbished and still have the same driving experience as a brand new one. Pretty amazing in this day and age. Can't wait to see what you end up with. :)
great video...always thought of getting one of these in the garage when the kids a little older (right now they want to come along so its 2+2 life at the moment
Try a Honda s2000, if you want something with the same sort of feeling .. but a few more creature comforts ... like doors . I know you would love the ap1 with that engine screaming at 9000rpm !!
and That's why This is a Petrolheads car !!! and a BugFatti is nothing but a swaffeling contest commodity ... PLZ try to get ya hands on a Dutch Donkervoort, that's a Lotus 7 / Caterham 2, no 3.0 ^^
This super lightweight baby, a Porsche 911 GT3 and an Audi RS6 is all a man needs in his garage. The rest you can sell today. Next you buy a Patek Philippe Calatrava, as gentlemen do, and enjoy having more money in the bank.
The Caterham would be great on the Lincolnshire roads , ,,, well if there was't hundreds of pot holes littering the highway .. Actually would be lots of fun around Cadwell park
@@yarkmates3409 True, but the landing is a bit easier in a car... It's over 30 years since I've been to Cadwell when F3 stopped going there. In those days, during the summer you learnt to hold your breath in the Gents by the Paddock - I bet my namesake has changed all that though?
Tony Maddison very likely! RUclips takes a while to actually show the first comments, views and likes. So it may have looked like I was the first comment while not actually being the first.
HIya, my mate Alex met you on Sunday at Snetterton, I would love to see a video of you driving the Caterham in wet weather, cause it makes for comedy viewing!!!
I have been subscribed to the channel for quite some time. In fact quite a number of years. The refrain of adding this or that to "my garage" is common in your posts over the years. Yet despite "hearing" of the garage we never "see" the garage. I think I speak for legions of subscribers when I say......we want to see YOUR GARAGE!!!!
Of all the really lightweight unique cars available this has never been high on my list if i was getting one of those. This is a very well priced one though. I would take a donkervoort. I know that car costs much more
About 20 years ago most one-make racing series had a 'guest car' allowing journalists to try their hand - the concept would be ideal nowadays with all the vloggers, but the manufacturers seem to have gorn orf the idea strangely, when it would give them masses more publicity than did the old system...
Definitely do the Academy/Roadsport. Just finished Roadsport season yesterday. Some crazy racing on my channel. Any advice around what it's like/all about happy to chat. I bloody love it!!!!
Although I know you have a strong connection to Michelin... are you allowed to talk about what brand the Caterham you drove was equipped with? It looked like a Federal or Nankang tyre.
Edmond from the RUclips channel “Mondi” is having a RUclipsr challenge track day at Auto Club Speedway , Fontana, California on November 23rd and I put your name down in the comments section of the video titled “RUclipsr Race Wars”. I just wanted to let you know and I thought you might like to go to the event.
James, please PLEASE upgrade your audio quality with some lapel mics or anything extra than the camera micing. The disproportion between audio and video quality is quite apparent.
How are they allowed to make these? Wouldn’t insurance companies lobby the government to ban its production due to crash requirements? Very cool and wish it were around in the usa
Mandurath that’s crazy. I’ve never seen one or a dealership. I’ll have to see where they are located. Again, not sure how they could sell them new and get around crash safety requirements other cars have to mess with. Maybe trying to classify them as old cars for an exception or something? 🤷🏼♂️
Joshua Collins well technically speaking they shouldn't be as they don't actually meet all of the requirements to be road legal (especially on the emissions front), but as a small volume manufacturer they have been afforded some exemptions.
Ewan Jacobs Yep, Just looked it up on the NY dealer i found. They are classified as “self-build” vehicles that don’t come with a power train. So it isn’t quite the same as registering a new car from toyota or something.
Joshua Collins they are kit cars, but at least here in Europe they do come with the engine components as well as with the option to have them factory built. Seems a little odd that they wouldn’t include the engines in America given that they are supplied by Ford.
@@patricklawson9756 Prob depends on the model. In terms of ride the 4 prob is ahead of the ride of any cat but its still not got a heater etc if thats your thing...

I race with Spec Miatas here in the PacNW, and I know a chap who races both Spec Miata and his Caterham. He says they feel very similar, but the Caterham is quite a lot quicker because of the lower weight. Not sure how much faster the newer MX-5 Cup cars are to the original Gen 1 Spec Miatas.

How often do you have to move the car while filming because of traffic?
What i love about your channel,is that, you let the driving do the talking,as you always make a point of finding B roads, wherever and whenever you can,no matter how long or short that drive is,to rev those cars... Very well appreciated that!
That blue might be my favorite color for a car
Not giving Colin Chapman and Lotus proper credit for the invention of the Super Seven now called the Caterham Seven is a sin.
