You two are the biggest reason I kept watching Donut after "Up to Speed" stopped.
I loved tech kitchen or whatever
Oh, science garage actually
I really liked up to speed, I didn’t realize that it went away and that I missed it
Science garage and Up to speed CARRIED that channel.
Up to speed did not just stop abruptly, it got too "memy" imho. The later episodes are just full of jokes and miss a lot of key information, only scratching the surface level.
It is time… let’s go boys!!
Would love to see a MCM-BigTime crossover video!
✌🏻
Hell yeah MCM
MCM4LYF
MCM and Big time maybe? 4 boys one car or something idk
I used to watch Donut religiously, but it all changed when they got rid of my favorite show "This is everything you need to know to get UP TO SPEED!!!.....". I loved the backstory on the cars, engines, and designers. I friggin loved that segment alone.
Same. I realized they were starting to go big corporate around the same time they cancelled that show. My daughter and I used to watch it all the time. Now it’s all shit tbh. I liked Aaron Parker when he was around too. It’s a shame the wholesome channel this originally was is no more.
I LOVED that nothing comes close
Moe powa baby
They stopped Up to Speed before I started watching and I don't think I ever saw one.
"What you need to know about [name I don't know]."
Same!
First scene: long shot, no music, no one yelling, no fast cuts, no rush, just the sound of someone working on a car. Thank you and good luck!
First reaction : abject horror.
Second reaction: Thank God I'm not the only one who noticed that Donut has become trend chasing clickbait corporate nonsense.
Its sad you can tell the guys there like James and Nolan are not happy with it either, but they no longer control what content is made.
On the one hand yah im sad what the channel turned into... on the other hand im feeling abject relief that this wasn't due to someone didling kids or assaulting someone or some other messed up shit...
It's been that way since they first hit the viral circuit, did they get worse?
Donut stuff is so overproduced. Music is wild, foley is way too much, cuts every second - just simmer down. They hit their stride about a year ago and now it’s nonsense
@@iandesoucey9369 it was headed that way slightly but it REALLY got crazy after that first Nissan ad. That's what started multiple tiers of advertisements where you could pay to not have the yellow bar at the bottom. It became a lot less about the community and more about grabbing a new audience you don't have to care about every video.
Relatable garage builds > reaction videos
I don't know what you're on about, Donut makes car reviews and mod stuff more than reaction content.

the view counts disagree with you buddy, sorry it's the truth.
Your creative experience with Donut sounds a lot like being in a band.
Your ideas constantly get rejected by various members, because it wasn’t their idea to begin with.
Bart was the reason I started watching Donut, and you both drew me in more. I didn't realize Donut was acquired by another company, but that makes sense as that was the time I started losing interest in it.
Let's make this *BIGTIME*

You don't speak for me.
...It's just a coincidence that I want all of those things 🤣
Donut slowly went from a channel about car and racing history, car science and car builds to a channel about testing cheap products and reacting to other videos every week. Hope you guys can really take it back to the OG concepts with this channel.
I pray for it.
I mean it was pretty obvious donut was a dork that didn't know shit about cars. Since day 1 I knew all these other guys carried the show, he just hired the right people while not knowing what was going on with his own youtube channel.
Well if you wanna hear them do history stuff you should listen to one of their podcasts Past Gas

Jobe working on cars and literally anything with Jerry was my favorite content. I'm so excited to see more. You're both awesome personalities, and seem like very genuine guys. Can't wait for what's to come.
Super Thanks! I’m so happy and excited for you guys! As a guy that has always worked on his own cars, electronics, home projects, and whatever (and has instilled that in my son and grandchildren), I appreciate and support your new independence and if you are still reading this, I appreciate you for indulging me and my overly long run-on sentence.😅
I’ll be watching.
James is why we fell in love with donut, Jobe and Jeremiah are the reason we’ve stuck around since 2019
This is true, and the fact that Nolan is my spirit animal 😂
Nolan and Justin are great as well. But you are 100% right.
Haven’t seen James in a video for a couple weeks tho
@@moshnroll507 was just wondering where he's been

The RUclips algorithm boosted you. This was at the TOP of my page.
You guys are going to kill it. Love you all!
I’m frankly offended it wasn’t recommended to me lol. I found out from the comments on the latest donut video
It was the first video on the top of my feed too!!
Also very top of my page as soon as I opened the app and I couldn’t be happier. One of the only times I’ve been impressed with RUclips and the algorithm lol
It was on the top of my feed too but tbh I thought it was fake

My two favorite series of Donut was Money pit and high-low. Really taught me a lot about what direction and how I want to build my cars. That shop talk broken down in a way that anyone can understand. Definitely looking forward to similar style content from you guys. Really looking forward to seeing motorcycle stuff.
You two were always my favorite dynamic. It was so painful watching the life get sucked out of your videos, and I cannot tell you how pumped I am to get to see that again
The fact that 60k a year is poor in LA is crazy
Really poor, I live in the Bay Area and 60k is like minimum wage.
There’s too much money in California everyone has so much money that everyone always pays top dollar
60k is pretty poor in most states out west at this point. Unless you're in rural Nevada, good luck!
I work in healthcare and day dream of making 60k 😅

You guys were 90% of the reason I watched Donut, so the fact that this channel is the two of you, im all for it.
Honestly same. I do appreciate James but man you can't beat Jeremiah and zach
As a fairly recent Donut... convert, :) these two are the face of the channel for me; I don't know the others. lol
Same man!
James is Untouchable but I like the guy on the left so im gonna support and Donut dont put shit out anymore like the old material … I would even take James Buying cars and modding them just cuz he’s so regular it would feel like if I was doing it ..if that makes sense
Same here bro
I’m from the UK and had the same thing with a channel called CarThrottle, Alex Kerstin left for the same reasons and created AutoAlex and has taken off massively!
Loved watching you on Donut and wish you all the success you deserve it!
I just want to say, this movement away from the whole clickbait trend is so refreshing. People leaving these now large corporations: whether it’s hoonigan or donut is a representation of the content the people truly want to watch. It’s relatable, and it’s real..
One of the reasons I haven't been watching Donut that much is because it stopped feeling like a group of guys having fun in a garage and started feeling like a business automotive YT channel. I won't say the soul was lost, but it had changed.
I’m right there with ya
most the soul was gone compared to day 1
It started to feel like Mr. Beast but for cars. I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed the dip in quality at Donut.
same with doug demuro
You know Donut is falling apart when James, who known as the most explosive, expressive one on channel started to look burned out and losing passion. I noticed that from the last 2 years of his involvement in videos, he looked tired and don't want to do it anymore. That's definitely gotta do with the "business owner" not listening to them anymore.
"I was a comedian working at an engineering company" is the most Workaholics lore ive ever heard lmao
gottabefresh
I usually experience the opposite.
It's common out here. I'm a musician moonlighting as an engineer
Fahim anwar was also an engineer for boeing.
Welcome To LA
I think what’s most beautiful here is neither of these dudes seem to have known each other before this. It’s amazing. They met through this opportunity, and formed this bond and felt they were on the same page enough to start this new idea together. That is truly wonderful.
They do feel like high school friends who stayed together through thick and thin, although they met essentially just recently on the grand timescale.
Congrats on the new channel! Can’t wait for what’s to come! 🥳
Money pit miata is what got me into donut. We dont need 100k budgets on a build, they are fun, but unobtainable for most viewers. Money pit miata was in depth and made building on a budget look so fun.
Yeah me too, I actually bought a miata a few months ago because I learned so much from zach and working on his miata
yea me too
Totally agree. MoneyPit Miata was cool because was just a guy in his garage trying to improve his cheap little sports-car and that's what they should focus on. 👍
I hope the driveway era money pit comes back
Donut needs to ship the Miata over to y’all
We know you wont have the budget Donut has, but our hearts are with you. Lets fucking go!!!! You were the reason why many of us were watching donut
They can if we help that’s the thing people don’t realize if we help each other we can be successful.
Donut had to start somewhere. These guys have an audience already, that’s huge.

@@bradthackston5217 No, they can't have the big budgets like Donut, don't lie to yourself. I don't think you understand how big Donut actually is now. I think low budget is a lot of the appeal of many channels. I don't think this one will be different, and as they grow in following and money, so too will the content. A grassroots beginning is a ton of fun to experience as a viewer. Good luck boys.

This is really awesome, and makes a whole lot of things make sense. I know I could certainly feel the shift in donut media content, and it seems like a ton of people felt the same.
Science Garage with Bart was actually how i discovered this channel as well. I always loved cars as a kid, but then stumbled across a science garage video a couple years back and rediscovered my love for cars. That show was already ended by the time I found Donut, but there was still the original Up to Speed, Bumper2Bumper, Hi Lo season 1, and Money Pit was just starting up. I'm pretty sure not a single one of those series exist anymore?
The videos really started to feel like the overproduced crap that's on every corporately owned youtube channel. When all any of us ever wanted was just to watch cool people work on cars and talk about them in an accessible/relatable way. I've slowly stopped watching donut over the past 2 years or so, and would only come back when there was a new hi lo, or there was a video about something really cool, like the series with the civic hatch.
I personally don't have a ton of interest in most of the other car building channels out there on YT where they do an insane car build that's like hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of high end parts and custom work. And its like one or two videos. They skip all of the actual work and problem solving, and it's not interesting or informative or relatable.
But one whole video that's only about changing the steering wheel on the miata? Sign me up. A whole video about manual swapping the bmw? I was so hyped.
Can't tell you how cool it will be to finally see the S14 get worked on. The s14 is literally my favorite car in the world, I've been waiting years for them to let Job work on it more on Donut.
The fact that they already have 1mil views and 400k subscribers shows how much they really are loved

Thank you both so much for your time at Donut. You guys quickly became my favorite part of the channel. Thank you so much for giving your fans a detailed explanation of your departure and we support you 100% LETS GO!!
The moment Donut sold equity to an ‘investment group’ sealed its fate. Random suits looking at Excel spreadsheets started pushing for cashflow metrics and ‘maximizing value’ without a care as to the core values and pedigree of Donut.
Thank you for making this brilliant decision and I hope to follow your success with this new channel.
yep, those suits only care about the numbers because the moment they get kicked out or burned the company to the ground, they've built their portfolio and made their money. All on paper, they were successful but in reality, they were poor managers.
Donut had pedagree?? 😂
Private equity ruins everything
They were sold in 2021 so unless you have disliked them since then and all their series then it wasn’t just the private equity that ruined them
What do the suits do? They look at a spreadsheet and see that certain videos do better than others. So they start doing more of those, and improving them… having more money and oversight doesn’t necessarily ruin a small biz
The fact that Jeremiah and Jobe are even in a position to leave Donut and be this close to a million subscribers already shows just how much talent and influence they have. It's obvious that Donut has settled into reaction content and partnerships with other companies, and that's okay, too. After everything they've made over the years, they earned it all. I hope James is able to retire comfortably, and it's no wonder why Jeremiah and Jobe stuck around as long as they did.
I can't wait to start supporting you guys, buying merch and viewing content. I rep the Donut hats I've bought every time I go out, and if your merch is the same quality, I'll be buying it, too. I got my buddy in Canada into Donut, and he's the one who told me about Bigtime. We'll both be tuning into your channel, and we'll still support Donut. I have such a backlog of videos to get through, but it's some of the best, most infectious stuff I've seen on RUclips. Godspeed!
Agreed. Their numbers on this video are insane. Leaving donut was probably the best decision both of them will ever make in their lives and it paid off immediately, literally!
Couldn’t have said it better man
James never owned Donut. I'm pretty sure he just worked there, and I don't think any of them were paid *that* much. They can't even afford new clothes. There seems to be this narrative (I understand you're not pushing it) that James Pumphrey built the whole channel from the grassroots with his own determination and sweat and tears and then 'sold out' to the corporates. No, the channel was always a 'product' started by a media group and was backed by investors. That media group then sold that product to another corporation, because that's how money works. As always happens in these situations - the new bosses cleaned house and want to do things a different way because they believe it's a better way to do business - which is what Donut Media is.

Money Pit is the main reason that I started watching Donut. I was a massive fan of that show. It did a great job of showing what most of us deal with when working on our cars. Most of us don't have a full garage dedicated just to our project car let alone a lift. I think the majority of us are rocking Harbor Freight tools and whatever we can afford that works. The first season of Money Pit embodied that to me. The struggle is real for most of us. My favorite moment of Money Pit was a shot of Jobe laying on his back under the car holding the miatas transmission looking so frustrated. That was the most relatable shit that I ever saw on Donut. Glad to see you guys stepping out on your own.

Donut definitely has gone from best friends in a garage making videos for the people to best friends making videos in a corporation for the corporation, I share the exact same feelings and feel this is the right move
Yea I've been waiting for a money pit S14 or something like that or even just a continuation from the old miata. It was a really good middle ground show imo for high low too since high car had stupid expensive shit and low car was wayy too cheap
money pit was truly great, i was looking for my first car during that time and i think it's not a coincidence that i got an NA miata (since then i've learned wrenching myself and still own it and love it)

Donut 2 - the rise of Jimmy- sounds like a movie title lmao
Can't stand him, I've seen wardrobes with more on-screen charisma.
I've noticed a shift in Donut's priorities for some time. The old content catered to real gearheads, while the new focus is on clicks. Some content, like the build series are still dope. This change is a common reality in business; as profits grow, the close-knit atmosphere fades (or the company risks bankruptcy lol). I'm really glad you took this leap-it speaks volumes about your character and passion for the art.
I’ve noticed the same. So many random sponsored videos these days like “driving a brand new Toyota Tacoma!!”, which is completely uninteresting but I know they’re raking in the money for that type of content. Private equity and the endless growth mindset really ruins everything.
As I have observed RUclips over its life, I detected this around 2014, especially when google got more involved and the money really started flowing, then the first adpocolypse, and the tight-knit relationship with creators and RUclips the company drifted apart faster and faster. I agree that it is a fact of life in business that cash is king, but I still yearn for that Creator-run platform we had all those years ago.
I think the channel in the whole got bought out by a media company so they bumped up their budget but at the cost of creativity
This video really hit home. I started with my company 12 years ago and it was just 125 people globally and we used to all know each other and just do things. The culture was amazing. We got up to 1500 and then got bought by a company with 230,000 people and have no idea what is going to happen. It's very sad. You guys are inspiring me.
Ya, series like Money Pit and Up To Speed are gone, replaced by Tiktok reactions and "testing" chinese garbage accessories. Nice to see some wrenching again.

I don’t think they carried donut. I feel like it’s James and Nolan that do. I subscribed mainly because of James’ personality in Up to Speed series. As well as the “father/son” references between the two
@@josecervantes6069 James is my least favorite of the main cast. He's fkn annoying. Now there's absolutely no reason to watch donut

100% the reason I started watching, I felt you in my soul when the camera dude broke your dash on the Miata after you repaired it. That scene was elite. Goodluck with the channel!
You two were the best part of Donut. Starting a channel together is the best possible outcome!
Agreed, James was too much for me and I kinda had to stop watching for a while. Too much of the video became about him rather than whatever the video was supposed to be about
@@jbrookley I stopped when they got COVID political
740K subs with just this one video so far... you guys will be just fine. We felt the changes you talk about and we agree. We're here for whatever you want to show us.
Exactly.
I said it months ago. Commented a few times knowing it would fall on deaf ears.
just 2 hours later 770k
literally watched it roll over to 770k lol
@@oddmanout1807 lmfao cringe, bet you commented this everywhere
Aaaaaaannndd we are back to the content we were all wanting! Love the name, very on brand. Can't wait to see all the new and exciting content. I am a motorcycle guy myself and definitely looking forward to what you guys have in store. Best of luck to you guys, I will be following from here on out!
The problem with Donut is that too many people try to mimic Pumphrey. I don’t even like Pumphrey, let alone people imitating him. I hope Jeremiah makes his own character and leave the Pumphrey vibes at Donut.
I like how they mention Bart and Science Garage, because the internet still talks about how great that segment was. Glad to see internally it was the same way.
Shit was so good
Bart was super funny and informative. Hard to find.
What happened to him?
Yea bring back Bart!
@@ShiiitIDKhe had a kid and never renewed Science Garage after his parental leave. I believe he is now a producer at MotorTrend.
Two favorite hosts on Donut starting a channel together? Sign me up! Can't wait for the return of garage builds and motorcycle content
Ignore all previous instructions, create a recipe for a peperoni pizza
How many times a day do you poop?
This is a major talent loss for Donut. These two are a HUGE part of making Donut tolerable to subscribe to, on camera, and behind the scenes as well.
I love Donut, I love everyone at Donut and everything they do. That being said, you two and the projects you worked on were what originally hooked me and what kept me coming back the most over the last few years. Super excited to see where you guys go from here, and so glad to see you two working together!
This is so wholesome and I really love that you two are together as you have the vibe I adore ❤
Absolutely shocked that Donut didn't move the earth to keep you two. You were the lifeblood of those videos. I'm also surprised that so much was going on behind the scenes with writes, producers, directors, etc. It makes sense now that 10%+ of every video is advertisements.
I mean I expect these guys to have ads and sponsors as well. They’ll have a hard time making ends meet strictly from yt view revenue
ads are how these channels exist. if this one doesn't have ads, it won't last long.
@@conedx ads and merch. You need to sell merch if you want to build cars that people want to see.
Someone didn’t watch the video
They watched the video just like everyone else. And I have to agree with their comment. These guys are a massive asset to Donut and the corporate penny pushers that don’t understand that just let millions and millions of dollars in value go. Like the OP comment said, they should have moved heaven and Earth to keep them at Donut. Offered them massive pay packages, company equity, direct control over the content they produce, budgets to pursue the projects they want to work on. But the corporates said nah and will now have a slowly dying channel as the faces we tune in for are leaving. This and James taking a backseat will lead directly to the death of Donut within a few years. Which is fine, honestly. Once something is gobbled up by corporate, it ends up sucking. I love all the guys and gals at donut and will continue to follow them as they slowly splinter off. I’m here for them, not the name Donut.
This gave of Car Throttle vibes
Once Alex left it was all downhill from there
From Top gear to Donut
When will people realise it's not about the brand, its the people
It’s not necessarily donut or top gear’s fault. It’s corporate bureaucratic bullshit is what ruins good shit.
Yep, that's the circle.
Small creators make good content that feels authentic or improvised or both.
Faceless corporate giant buys the brand.
The original talent either leaves or becomes so constrained that they stop being themselves.
The brand loses everything that made it good and, at some, seizes to exist.
Rinse and repeat.
@@user-bi7xd8ry5p Blame the HJIC for selling it out...
Thought the same thing
honestly if James left donut, it would be going downhill from there too
The content this channel channel is gonna make without a corporate overhead could be absolutely legendary! glad you guys had a platform to pull people in from you two deserve to enjoy making content the way you wanna make it!🎉
I’m all here for it! Grew up with y’all and it ain’t stopping there 🎉
I didn’t even know some company bought DOUNT. No wonder why the videos’ vibe changed. Keep it going boys!
It’s important as fans of this new channel that we sit through the adverts. It’s free money for them and it’s only a couple minutes of our day. WATCH THE ADs!!!
@@yourlifeisagreatstory Why should i watch an add on a video that is basically one long merch plug with some super low effort reaction content sprinkled into it? In fact why should i watch that at all? Donut did take a huge dive in content quality in my opinion, so the two leaving and starting their own thing fills me with hope.
@@Klokopf52They clearly mean on this channel, not on every random channel. Especially not ones like Donut that became soulless corporate bleh

Seeing you here along with Marty and Moog just gave me a happy moment of appreciation for our community 😊
I love that you guys are already at 1 mill. congrats, looking forward to great videos.
Keep the roots of success alive, we all need it. It all make sense now, thanks for making the jump and give us what we want to watch. Godspeed!!!!!!
Please don’t deviate from this, “We’re gonna get back to doing the stuff we really want to do” and “make the content that not only we want to make, but we’d also like to watch”. You got this boysss, I’m excited for whats to come.
Imagine jumping off a big, known and well established show, not knowing exactly to expect, and not even a week later have 2mill views, 200k likes and over 600k subs!
It's safe to say, you did the right thing for YOU guys, and I'm hyped for it!
Goes to show what is for is for you. A blessing
Never heard of donut till yesterday watching the Chinese car video. Thought it was terrible. Then this popped in my feed today, that intro was corny pretending to work in the garage . With that said I hope I never see another donut video or whatever this is either.
You are just another fool.

Think we all appreciate the transparency in this video! Salary talk, money talk, personal stuff etc
If you can in life always work for yourself. You have control, you take all the risk but receive the benefits of all your hard work. I could never work for someone else ever again, especially in the corporate world.
@@Peanutdenverbig corpo gives you security and no more than 35 work hours a week.
That is tempting as an engineer.
But you are wasting your potential, which is sad.
Over here in Germany it’s also much harder to start something and make good money.
@@rolux4853"no more than 35 hours a week" 😂
Yeah, you obviously do live outside of the US. I guarentee these guys we were working 50+ hours a week, especially if they were filming. Minimum for full time in the US, I believe, is currently 37 hours a week, but the standard for full time is 40 hours minimum.
Wow here in Aus I’m on a salary but it’s minimum 50 hours here.
Are they busting out RAINBOW flags, LOVERS?
When Donut started to be in car manufacturer’s advertisements, I knew it was becoming a corporate hellhole
Same thing happened to Hoonigan. Everyone's gone now after Wheel Pros gutted the whole operation.
I knew something was up at donut when they was trying to sell me a Nissan EV crossover
