  • Feel like you’re kicking a tree trunk when you go for leg sweeps? Coach Bob Peach of Beacon MMA shows how the “De Ashi Harai” of Judo is all about timing and technique. Here’s a drill you can do with a partner to get rep after rep, getting closer to mopping the mats with your teammates and competition 🧹

    One of the simplest and most difficult techniques. It's so nice when you land it though, the pinnacle of judo

    Judo foot sweeps are super useful, as a Judo player and someone who practices MMA, you'd be surprised how often people leave themselves open for judo sweeps if you have a decent collar and elbow lock up.

    Throw back to the video of Shane working with a Muay Thai clinch master, where he said the key to foot sweep is to rotate 3 parts on the opponent like a recycle wheel (1 arm push up, 1 arm pull down and the leg sweep). Deashi Harai works really well in Muay Thai and those folks have used it alot in competition

    • @dmfaccount1272
      @dmfaccount1272 Год назад

      I was told this kind of sweep is banned in Muay Thai, you can't use the bottom Of your foot.

    • @jaketheasianguy3307
      @jaketheasianguy3307 Год назад +1

      @@dmfaccount1272 but you can use the edge of the foot, and the mechanic is still the same. Also Muay Thai rules when it comes to foot sweep is very... blurry. There's alot of time I saw fighters sweep in such fashion that's not allowed in the rule book but the ref didn't even interfere

    • @assoverteakettle
      @assoverteakettle Год назад +4

      I know...but looks are so deceiving because deashi harai is notoriously difficult because you have to sweep the foot just before the opponent fully plants their step on the off beat. One-two-sweep-three. I think Chadi says it is actually a low probability move at high level judo but a great way to set up a different throw like an attempted foot sweep to uchi mata.

    It's very rare to see anyone doing de ashi while retreating, well done. There was a black belt I knew when I was first starting out who had this version as their favorite technique. If I could go back in time I would have had him teach it to me.

    If you have RvL situation (or southpaw on orthodx for the strikers) ou can take Ukes collor (or I guess an underhook but I never tried it that way) rip really hard similar o a turning throw and kick the leg out. Works every time in Randori if Uke doesnt know it.

    Some of the Shaolin forms look like they’re picking up their feet in defense against this. I know sometimes it’s about avoiding low attacks with weapons but what I’m talking about looks different.

      The 3 step dance is just a teaching tool for beginners to learn the timing. In competition there are a lot of setups that lead to foot sweeps and I've seen them pulled off beautifully in sparring and competition.
