Neal then later replaced Steve with Arnel Pineda. Arnel is a really good singer with a tenor voice, but he's no Steve Perry. Then they were surprised when Steve wouldn't join Journey on stage for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert when the band was enshrined. No wonder he wouldn't, he still had hard feelings.

"Only To Come Crawling Back" There is a whole lot more to the Steve Perry story than what is presented here. Among other things, smacking into the wall of burn out at 200 mph, been there, done that. Neal with his manager Herbie Herbert put it together. As you probably know there were three LP's pre Steve & even another singer before him - who did not record with the band.

If it helps, things have evolved over time. With the publication of the DSM III in 1980, there was a shift away from explicitly regarding addiction as the manifestation of an underlying psychological pathology.
Prior to that in the DSM I (1952) and DSM II (1968) it was regarded in itself as a mental disorder and for that reason state hospital systems had facilities specifically for alcoholism and drug addiction.
For the record I don't believe that alcoholism is a mental illness, and while people do often attempt to self-medicate for an actual mental illness with drugs not intended for that purpose, addiction, in my opinion is not a mental illness either.
I mean for heaven's sake, the DSM I and the DSM II defined epilepsy as a mental illness. People were once institutionalised because they had seizure disorders. Where I am that was outlawed by various state Mental Health Acts throughout the 1970's.
I think there's a problem with bureaucracies grouping multiple things together, possibly when they aren't necessarily related.
I wonder why so many social programs in the U.S are administered by the Department of Agriculture when the Social Security Administration exists, for example.
I guess it was just easier to pass funding through Congress that way ?
Where I live it's a weird thing but the Arts portfolio is almost always bundled with another unrelated ministerial portfolio. Currently Employment and Workplace Relations (equivalent to the U.S. Secretary of Labor), but I recall it being done at other times by :
      -an Attorney General
-a Minister for Veterans Affairs (equivalent of Administrator of the Veterans Administration in the U.S.)
-and a Minister for the Environment and Water (that's probably equivalent to part of what the U.S. Secretary of the Interior does but we haven't had a Department of the Interior for over fifty years).
It's just a thing governments do, is what I'm saying.

7:07: I had the displeasure of meeting Steve Perry, while a clinician at Cedars-Sinai medical center. He relentlessly spoke of how I have 'must've' heard of him. The rude narcissists presumed I must be fan given my age and waist length ponytail. The entire output of this band, in my opinion, and many of my '70s contemporaries, found it to be revulsive, saccharine drivel, given its complete lack of any expertise of musicianship. Mediocrity churning out schlock, over-worn juvenile heart breaks. 😢Ho-hum and yuck!🤮

@Jon Doe I believe your assessment is primarily a manifestation of your 'personal' projection of uncomfortable, emotional concerns. I, in contrast, was portraying a personal, appros incident, given the content referenced. Not all of life is pleasant and easy, thus a rendition of a tense, unpleasant experience is 'part of life'. Unapologetic and unamended.👋

@Jon Doe My portrayal of an atypical interaction with a 'celebrity' seemed to've ruffled your feather. While your sensibilities have been shaken a bit, too bad. In a democracy, diversity of opinion indicates maturity, sounds as though you missed that stop, on the road of life. Heaven help you.🤨👋

Corabi sucked. Period. When he left Crue, he put together a band that ripped off songs the Philly circuit made famous. And he didn't do anything except play them note for note.
Steve Perry decided he was going to play boss. First thing he did was fire Steve Smith and Ross Valory. Nobody was happy about that. Then Steve developed a throat problem. They found a guy from the Phillippines, Arnel Pineda, that sounded dead on like Perry. Smith and Valory came back and nobody bothered with Perry anymore
