Shawn Cee Im not sure if Ghostface took the moniker before the Ironman album, like during the Wu's 36 Chambers days, but hes been going by that name for a while. He and DOOM were supposed to release a joint project, DOOMSTARKS, that never came to fruition. Keep doing your thing man, youre my fav critic on YT. Youve found a winning formula, stick to it and fuck what ppl think
Born like this is sooooo underated. His rhymes patterns on this project are sooooo sick. Literally kills it. He sounds like a true villain on this project, a much deeper voice and he is going in on them baaaars.
"Absolutely" is one of my favorite Madlib beats and also one of my favorite DOOM verses. I'm glad you got around to this album, there is a huge lack of reviews for this record, especially on RUclips. Thanks for the video bro
Pericles Underhill Mine too man. The beatis so smooth and classy. That combined with Doom's lyrics really gives me a classic noire style feel for some reason.
Bunku's Place For Hidden Music oh my god I love you for putting that link. 9/11's a lie, ted Cruz looks like melting hippo and might be the zodiac killer... someone should look into that.
The poem in the beginning of Cellz is called "Dinosauria, We" by Charles Bukowski. I strongly recommend giving it all a read/listen. Very fitting for today's global landscape. Also, you should look into the artist Homeboy Sandman. I think you'd appreciate his lyrics.
It's really a toss up for me. But I give it to dilla because he put out so much great material in such a short amount of time. If not for his untimely death, I don't think any producer could even make an arguement
Next you should listen to Venomous Villain or Take Me To Your Leader. Both amazing albums still, and you should check out his projects with KMD because those are amazing considering how young he was.
Great review as always without a doubt "Supervillianz" is the only song that lacks on this album for me but everything else is on point. Next DOOM review gotta be DangerDOOM - The Mouse and The Mask or King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader
I have a theory for you on MF Doom's villainy. He is not just being a villain to check the superheroes, i e being the underground rapper checking the commercially promoted / successful hip hop artists. I agree with you that that element is there, and when he speaks about hip-hop directly that is definitely what he is trying to do. However when he speaks about societal/political/philosophical, issues I think he is trying to present a deeper idea. So ... he is definitely and without qualification a villain; yet the institutions that he commits his crimes against are so much more villainous then he can ever hope to be, that he in fact the comes the hero. I don't know why I've decided to make this comment on this particular video, but it is a theory that I've been developing over time. I guess the reason why is I consider the opening to Cellz to drive this idea home more directly than anything else he has done. Think about it like this, he uses samples from old radio shows and or comic book cartoons, because in those olden days he would be perceived as a villain. However when he's rapping he's the hero because it's modern day. In other words, if a super villain destroys the modern banking system and the modern banking system is an evil cancer destroying the world, is he still a supervillain? No, he is a villain in a society that has become so evil that his villainous Acts become heroic.
Looking at DOOM from an antihero lense is great, not a perfect man, but one who stood for what he believed in and didn’t compromise himself for credibility and instead left a legacy
If you don't already know which DOOM album you're gonna do next, I'd highly recommend King Geedorah's Take Me to Your Leader or the second Viktor Vaughn album, Venomous Villain.
Gotta disagree with the production being sharper. Madvillainy sounds like it could have come out in the 90's or yesterday. Same with Mm.. Food. Just my opinion though.
madvillainy personally was more of an entire package, yes there are some hits on there, but everything feels so concise and connected I just end up playing the whole album, some of my favs tho are figaro, raid, meat grinder, accordion, supervilain theme, ALL CAPS, fancy clown, and americas most blunted
The Producer of Lightworks was JDilla, you should definitely listen to Donuts if you haven’t, it’s an instrumental album that’s fire af. We lost Dilla too soon.
Batty Boys is so fucking bigoted and terrible, but yet... He really put a lot of effort into it. I don't think I've ever seen such a spectacular display of homophobia.
Batty Boys was a diss track on Batman and Robin. It wasn’t meant to be against homosexuality but rather the two being gay together (making a mockery of them)
Perfect time to bring out this reaction, I love this album so much, and you're showing these idiots who are wasting their time over analyzing you on Reddit, the fact that people are doing this shit shows that you're winning bro, keep at it!

15:04 fun fact to that point....Batty Boyz has a Wayne and Birdman diss. When he called Batman and Robin gay he says “red and chrome batmobile wheelin and dealin....” Wayne and Birdman were on an episode of MTV Cribs and showed their cars which were all painted red and were on chrome wheels. This was not long before this song was released and it was also around this time that Birdman and Wayne’s kissing pic began to pop up.
Shawn DOOM has new music being released weekly for the next 14 weeks. The first one dropped on Monday and it's really dope. You should check it out. I'm pretty sure it's called the missing notebook rhymes or something like that.
It's a shame Shawn didn't recognize Supervillainz is a satirical representation of the rap scene at the time. The whole autotune is a joke, jabbing at a lot of the pop-rappers of the time.

Shawn Cee THANK YOU 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
SuperVillans was supposed to be song mocking the autotune era (when this album was made). That is Posdnuos (DeLaSoul) singing with autotune.
