No more guessing, I'm testing, bought a Klein a month ago. A new customer with a new smoke and co detection, the tech before me did not have a proper seal in the condensate line, kicked my butt. The owner had to insist the electrician upgrade smokes to include CO and he reluctantly obliged. Guessin is not where anyone should be messin, the owner's prescience was my blessin!! Seriously a lot of people could have been harmed. Your message is a vital public notice.

A couple of things to note, corrosion of the original spec aluminium flue tubes was a common problem. Later versions had plastic tubes.
What you described as a condensate drain is actually the flue gas test point and must not be adapted in any way! On the air tube, the test point has a plastic cap.
The GB 142 was originally part of the Buderus 800 series. Buderus was acquired by Bosch Thermotechnic back in the early 2000's and was made in Holland. It's Dutch engineering that Bosch adopted as its own!
That's what I said, in the UK, what you call a vent we call a flue.
My Co detector has picked up on quite a few exhaust leaks... Heating equipment and DHW thanks to Mikey Pipes I started carrying one...saved few people from getting sick or possibly worse

This is exactly what you said about Navien until problems started to arise. What makes you think Bosch makes the best boilers?
I’m personally not a fan but I do install the Bosch green therm tankless water heaters and I have installed a heating only Bosch boiler as well.
those are notorious for the condensate collector leaks. I've had the whole heat ex filled with condensate.
Changed out plenty of those,my back hurts just looking at it.

Exact same issue in same location with my (new to me) 14 year old GB 142. Rotted metal exhaust fitting. HX and manifold also rotted out due to lack of maintenance. Had to replace it.

with the gb142 certain years have known issues with their heat exchangers and leaking combustion gasses
I’m not an hvac tech but I do have a 4 gas personal monitor.
I guess you could say that condensing boilers and tankless water heaters are still relatively new, so a lot of the older guys such as Steve Lav are unfamiliar with them.
@@PipeDoctor they only became common around 20 years ago, so only some of the old guys cared to install them. It seems that Steve Lav is the last guy to embrace new things in general though.

Other contractors follow the leader. I started putting in a brand of boiler and now seems like all the other contractors are switching it sucks kinds what set me apart.

I'm going to be putting a boiler in pretty soon and I might just use the regular cast iron cuz mine's 30 years old and for a little maintenance on my gas boiler hydronic.

There might be an underlying problem, that plastic looked to be exposed to a lot of heat to melt that hole into it. The homeowner should have you service it every year to make sure it is ship shape before each heating season.
That piece is metal it corroded from condensate dripping at an angle from the venting crookedness.
@@DCHVAC It's plastic. Mike said the new piece will be made out of polypropylene.

Just goes tp prove that unless you look for problems you can easily walk way and leave people in danger, I have worked on electric equipment without a print(guide) before you start you need to understand the basics and some people just look the fast fix.
that is a known issue with those units. (The rotting of the exhaust adapter) Edited post due to making an incorrect statement about a class action lawsuit.
Keyboard trolls? I don't understand.. I was just stating that the rotting on the vent connection is a known issue.. we have changed out many of them.on the gb 142 models. Maybe it is not a class action lawsuit but there is or was a lawsuit about this as a few of our customers were contacted after posting about the issue on the forums..
