My husband is a diabetic and the secret is to watch your portions and to not eat carbs and he'll be fine, And you guys are definetly not food hoarders. You shop the sales and stock up your freezers and pantry and you're always sharing food with everyone. You are the most generous and sweetest person I know. Tell those haters to quit hating. Love your channel and have a blessed week.

I am a diabetic and I can tell you that when you learn the do’s and don’ts you will find ways to still enjoy life. Just in a different way. Controlling that sugar is so important because it is a silent killer. Heart and kidneys etc are affected over time if you don’t take it seriously. You will learn over time to keep it under control. I’m anxious to see what Renae comes up with for diabetic friendly dishes….a lot of us who watch will really appreciate them too! You are in good hands John…she will take good care of you 🥰💖

You two are so giving and caring. Why are some people so jealous of us that prepare for emergencies? I guarantee you thats the first people in an emergency that would be knocking on your door asking for help. You two are fantastic!

You don't need to defend yourselves. You are smart to keep a well stocked pantry and freezers. It is cost effective in the long run and allows you to make healthier meals in lean times. Plus, as a mom and grandma (isn't it the best?) I love when I can share with my kids to make their lives a little easier. Food hoarders? Ridiculous! Anybody who watches your channel, knows how generous you are with family, friends, and strangers. I say you're smart, loving, and forward thinking. All the best to you and Mr. Wayna as you navigate your new normal with his new diagnosis. I'm sure we will learn a lot from you as you figure out how to make your wonderful meals with his Diabetes in mind. Proud of you both for beating smoking. Good morning from Oregon.

I'm a widow but still stock up on sales and with coupons. In my neighbor group that gardens together, we all share. If I see something I know my friends use a lot of sale I get it for them and they do the same. We combine our money for bulk buys. I'm a canner and dehydrater so they bring things for me to do and help with preparing it all. I have the biggest yard with sun so we use it for a group garden we share. It's our own little family.

Renae…I am a type 2 diabetic and it’s tough on a good day. Fresh fruits and vegetable are a snackers best friend. When I want a potato I soak them at least an hour before I boil them up to mash. Helps get the starch out but I still have to be careful how often I eat them. I learned this through the DASH diet which I have to follow for my husbands health issues. Meat…good protein is a very good thing also just watch the processed meats because as you know there are a ton of fillers in processed meats. I personally love celery and peanut butter as a snack. I also will grab a few baby carrots if I’m just in a snack mood. I’m going to tell John one thing to be very careful of…sugar level drops. You will sweat, get the shakes and be grabbing everything and anything and stuffing your face with the refrigerator door open. When I say sweating I mean like a river falling from your head on down. My only advise is always have a chocolate bar in the fridge, a high sugar candy in your pocket for just in case and read the labels on everything including juices. OJ is VERY high in sugar but if you are in a blood sugar drop OJ can be your saving grace. John, don’t deny yourself things you like just learn moderation. Takes a looonnng time to wrap your head around this and stress does affect one’s blood sugar readings. I’m praying for you but I know you have the best help right in your own home and that’s Renae and your kitty! One thing is for absolute certain…with age comes health issues. Since we aren’t going to stop aging, well as long as we are breathing that is, so we just need to take life as God gives it and learn to navigate the ups and downs that come to us all. One more point and I will close, Renae I pray everyone has a pantry going and filled along with a freezer or two because things are getting tough out there. A garden is so necessary now but everyone will have to make their own choices. I will be so excited for your new adventures in diabetic culinary as we will ALL learn something about sugars and starches, good and bad foods and how to navigate life living with diabetes. Happy snacking John😅 and know I’m right there with you on this journey!!!:):):)

I have been type 2 for 15 years. Most fruit is a big no. low carbohydrate, high protein. Zero or 1 carb tortillas for sandwiches or use iceberg lettuce leaves. Have to watch how many carb's you add to salads. Green beans are good but most others have a lot of impact on sugar. It's a learning game and it's hard at first but yall will learn. Don't follow what the diabetic association says or you will never control it with the carb counts they recommend.

I am dehydrating spaghetti squash right now. I like having some that I don't have to wait for it to bake. I am newly diagnosed too. Lots of thing can contribute to high blood sugar. Even stress. And people react to the same foods differently too. You've got this! And cooking for people is your love language. I love watching how much you enjoy cooking for the people you care about. Take care!

I'm a type two diabetic. I switched whole grain pasta for white pasta, brown rice for white rice and whole grain noodles for regular noodles in all of my casserole recipes and they don't raise my blood sugar. Peanut butter on whole grain toast is a good snack in the middle of the night. I always keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge which are a good snack. White flour, potatoes, white rice, and regular pasta are not your friends.

And as being food hoarders, if I had the place for storage I would buy much more than I do. Once my neighbor came over to borrow something and when I opened my pantry door she made a big to-do over the amount of items I had. She said she only bought supplies as needed. (each to their own) I have always stocked extra food because I was trained that way by my Mom. So what you do just looks NORMAL to me.

My mother was a diabetic but she could control hers without any kind of medication. She just stuck to a strict diet that the doctor gave her and it worked for her. But I wanted to mention since you said Mr. Wayna was a big fruit eater and I see him eating grapes that a diabetic must watch fruit consumption. She was using grapes as her sweet treat and it ran her blood sugar up quite a bit and the doctor cautioned her about fruits.
My husband controls his diabetes with a tablet and diet.

I used to eat low carb and all my health checks were beautiful. Some substitutes I made:
    Instead of chips, pork rinds
Instead of Mac ‘n cheese, cauliflower and cheese.
Bread made with just tablespoons of flour, but with a rise from whipped egg whites. I would also make pancakes with the “bread” mix.
Cantaloupe or other melons and berries in place of high sugar fruits.
Splenda or stevia instead of sugar.
Maybe you can come up with a meringue cookie recipe using sweetener. I’d love to see that!
There are so many free resources to check out. The sooner, the better!

Hi Friends, it’s all a learning curve for sure. Protein is good. As far as carbohydrates go, simple carbohydrates you want to avoid, complex carbohydrates are the ones to eat. Also be sure to check your blood for low blood sugars (LBS). Keep some glucose tablets handy. I’m Hypoglycemic which for me mine is reactive. I can’t eat sweets for breakfast even cereals will throw me into LBS. There’s some good complex pastas out there. Night time snacks cheese and a few whole wheat crackers, Avocado on Whole wheat toast, some fruit and Greek yogurt (Greek has more protein)
You’ll do just fine. Congratulations to you both for belonging to the Non Smoking population! Thanks for listening 🤗💜

    Just watch your portions.
If it helps, keep a food journal, tracking blood sugars in the same journal. Good luck.
I know it's a change, but you caught it early. Peace!

On the bananas, wat them before they get really ripe, thet have more sugar then and will cause your sugar to spike high.

I love your clean shaven face. You look so young. I am so proud of you two for being smoke free! You’re so lucky you have all those stores available to you. We have Walmart and Family Food Market that is so ridiculously high that you can’t afford to shop there. It’s bad enough at Walmart. Just take it serious. Not like my hubby. He won’t change his eating ways and now he’s paying the price because he’s on dialysis.

Congratulations on being smoking free🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏. It's hard intially, but once you get past the first 2 months, life greatly improves. Sorry to hear about John's diagnosis of diabetes, but knowing what it is, will be the beginning of getting healthier. My mom went to nutrition classes offered by her insurance company to teach her how to look for the hidden sugars in products. She read labels on everything before buying. She lived to the ripe old age of 93, and she was independent up until 90.

always eat something before bed, two cookies, two grhams, cheese, peanut butter. Many diabetics die in their sleep because the sugar drops to dang low.
