Hello, I have had type two diabetes for twenty years. It’s the total number of carbs per meal and snacks. It’s usually 15-20 carbs per snack twice a day and 40-75 carbs per meal. That’s the key. Some foods like oatmeal can cause your blood sugar to spike, so you have to check your blood sugar to see how they affect you.
Also check out the glycemic index for foods. Lots of good info around what the impact of different foods have on your blood sugar.

    Benefits of Monk Fruit Sugar
It reduces calories. Because monk fruit sugar is metabolized differently than regular sugar, you can reduce your caloric intake by using it.
It doesn't affect blood sugar. ...
    It's anti-inflammatory. ...
It can help fight cancer. ...
    It doesn't cause cavities. ...
    You only need a little.

It’s so awesome that you are doing this with him. Diabetes is a hard battle, especially when everyone in your home is still eating the old way. If you haven’t tried the Dave’s Killer Bread, it’s good. It doesn’t spike my blood sugar like other breads do. And at my grocery it’s cheaper than Ezekiel bread. The low carb tortillas are really good too. Prayers on this new journey!❤

They make a sugar substitute that is really good for you. Monkfruit. And stevia is good too. It's the gluten in the bread and wraps bring up the calories and the sugar. They also make sugar free cake mix and icing (unless you want to make your own) same for pasta. The make a lot of pasta with lentils and chickpeas. They also make bread that is still expensive but not 7.00 expensive called Sara Lee lower calorie bread 40 calorie IA slice. They do have so many different things for you both.

It's not that u can't have bread. Yes it breaks down to sugar but u can watch the amt of carbs per slice and get the lowest carbs. Not everyone can stop day one of not eating breads or sweets. I'm type 2 diabetic and retired RN. I count my carbs and no I don't eat much bread but I can't give up completely. I'm 61 years old and growing up we had bread and dessert with every meal. I can't stop cold turkey, some can and some can't. I had patients at a nursing home who wanted sweets and nursing home wouldn't fix them anything. They didn't have many years left so on way to work on Saturday night I stopped by fast food place and got him hot fudge Sunday...lol we hid it from everyone

You are blessed where you live...so many options. My protein bread here in BC, Canada is 6.98 a small loaf. I went from stress induced highest blood sugar they had ever seen, to normal range. I have learned through trial and error. I bake still, using almond flour and my family are blown away with what i make. My diet is extremely low carb. I also fast 18-20 hours so I have just one blood sugar rise. My dr was stunned. The endocrinologist wanted me on ozempic, insulin and metformin. No way! I said No! Apple cider vinegar with water is so good in getting the blood sugar regulated. Getting cold or hot will shoot your numbers up drastically so bear that in mind this summer. No dr ever told me, but I saw that when I froze cleaning out my gutters! There really is no going back to the old way of eating. Pizza, burgers etc are killers. The flour we use has changed drastically since the fifties. It is pure sugar, even more so than white table sugar! Survival HT channel has a fantastic explanation. Wish you all the best on this new journey.

When my mom was diagnosed 20 or so years ago, there were not many choices to purchase. I get criticized occasionally for some of the foods I cook and video. But, I don’t cook and eat like this all the time. There is also an amazing sugar free cake mix. I think its Pillsbury that puts it out. All I've seen is chocolate and vanilla but it satisfies the sweettooth.

Hey my friend! Been fighting type 2 diabetes for 25 years. I feel your frustration and John’s pain. Portion control and low carb lots of lean protein have helped me. I did have gastric bypass surgery which put me in remission until a few years ago. Genetically I am predisposed to. So now I have been on a weekly shot of Ozempic. It had lowered my A1C from 7.2 down to 5.4. Before my surgery I was on 4 shots of insulin, almost 300 lbs. Now I am 160 lbs. My eyes are damaged so I have to go to the eye doctor a lot.
I found monk fruit to be the closest sweetener to sugar. The texture is similar and it doesn’t spike your BS.
This is a hard thing to relearn lifelong ways but you will do it! So happy he is making insulin and can go on metformin! Best wishes prayers and love ❤

    • @N2itively1
      @N2itively1 4 месяца назад +1

Maple syrup has a lower glycemic index (GI) than honey, with a GI of 54 compared to honey's 58. Sugar has a glycemic index of 65. BUT Maltodextrin which is used frequently in sugar free products has a glycemic index (GI) of 95-136, which is higher than table sugar's GI of 65. A higher GI means that food or additives are digested more quickly, enter the bloodstream, and raise blood sugar levels faster.

Grapes are notorious for that too. If he wants to eat grapes have him consume just 1 handful after eating a high protein, high fiber and good fat meal. Using his glucose meter to determine what foods do to his system is key.

I need to catch up on your videos pertaining to his diabetes diagnosis. I do watch you sometimes but not real often. Anyways I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I lost 40 pounds within about a month without even trying and was sick everyday. Unquenchable thirst, and having to use the bathroom every half hour cause of it. I woke up one day and couldn't hardly see, my eyes were blurry, I made an eye doctor appointment and he told me your eyes can just go blurry for no reason, he never asked about my blood sugar or anything. So I wore glasses for a month and one night coming home from work my eyes went blurry with the glasses on. I took them off and could see normal again. My mom and relatives kept urging me to go to a Dr to see if I was diabetic cause almost everyone of my mom's sibling's were. Yep. Blood sugar over 600 and a1c 15.5. I was prescribed 4 metformin a day and tradjenta. It took weeks before my numbers started coming down and I started feeling well again. My a1c has been 6.2 and below for the past 5 years. I do have cheat meals, but I stick to being pretty low carb. You will just have to see what different things do to your blood sugar. I personally can't have oatmeal at all. It makes me jump into the 200s within half hour. It will be a learning experience trying to find out what you can and can't eat. Sorry so long, but I'm always interested in telling my story and seeing others deal with this also

There are videos for Ezekiel bread from other homesteading. Especially those who mill their own grains. Plus on fruits. Easier way for myself to remember is anything ending with berries. You can have. Others you have to limit yourself on amounts. Hope this help

Renea, I'm so impressed with how you have approached this. I can tell you're doing a whole lot of research. I'm glad you are, because along with following Mr. Wayna's doctors' advice, doing your own research is what will help you the most. Everyone means well, but everybody's situations are different, and what helps others may not help John at all. But it looks like you're well on your way to figuring it all out and getting him back to good health. Just remember, portion sizes matter, count those carbs, and check blood sugar levels as directed by the doctor, and things will fall into place for you. I'm interested to see if you notice any changes for yourself as well. In college, several friends were diabetic, and all of us ate exactly the same things. It wasn't very long before even those of us who weren't at that time diabetic were able to feel the changes in our own blood sugar levels. Several of us were later diagnosed, and what we learned all those years ago served us well.
Looking forward to the new recipes. Have a great holiday weekend!

Why are you buying Cool Whip? Real whipped cream is natural and doesn't need much sugar and has no chemicals in it. When Cool Whip goes bad, it gets little spots that are all different colors. I am just concerned as you are always talking about cooking and baking from scratch so you know what is in your food and I would think you would not touch Cool Whip.

You can make your own Strawberry Lemonade, waterbath can it and have it on your shelf to make as you need it. Ball (the canning company) has the recipe on its website or just google the recipe. You can make it without sugar and sweeten it when you make it.

I’m telling you Apple cider vinegar once a day will keep the doctor away….about a half or full tablespoon of apple cider vinegar,a little lemon in a full glass of water… you need to buy the apple cider vinegar with the mother and preferably organic and Brand name Braggs is best.

I am also diabetic. 1 of the best foods to eat should contain fibre. Also test your sugar levels. There are quite a few sugar substitutes that are worse than sugar. Check online, n find more than 1 source. Berries best for diabetes. Check each piece of food online for carbs. All the carbs add up fast. Good luck n God bless you both. Be careful when it says sugar free, cause they add sugar in some form.

You need to keep an eye on John. I’ve noticed for a long time he’s always in the frig eating something. He should only eat 3 meals a day and a controlled snack 3 times a day. I know it’s ruff but his health will determinate much faster if he doesn’t control all his eating constantly. God blessings 💕🙏🙏

Renee, instead of buying sugar-free, you should be buying. No sugar added. It is healthier because John can put as much of the monk fruit in whatever he's eating as he want. It does not spike blood sugar. All natural real grown fruit. I think no sugar added is cheaper than sugar free. I think he will like adding monkfruit as needed very much. I have been diabetic since 1990. All artificial sweeteners are bad. Monkfruit is good. TASTES GOOD TOO!

Renae-Once you find out what John likes as far as the groceries you’ve bought, check out Azure Standard. They have lots of diabetic options and their products are much healthier, as well as cheaper when bought in bulk. I like that most of their items are organic as well as non-gmo and as I said they have lots of diabetic options. They also have the rice and the whole grain pastas like you showed. I can’t use stevia because I’m allergic to ragweed, and Stevia is from the same family as ragweed. Monkfruit is a very good option for a diabetic. Fresh, whole foods are better than frozen, and frozen is better than canned (commercially), and canned is better than processed to infinity, as you know. And as you are learning, everything in moderation. What works for one person might not work for another, but there are “guidelines” to start with. It can be very challenging to change a diet so drastically. I’m sure John’s drs. as well as his body, will be your best guides. There are lots of places that do classes as well to help with the transition and learning curve that is needed for such a drastic change.
