I was a kid when that song was released. I didn’t know any of this. To be honest, at that time, at least for me, I wasn’t wondering why LL, Kane, and Rakim weren’t on the song. I just liked it for Moe Dee, Public Enemy, Heavy D, and KRS 1’s parts. At any rate, today the song is a classi and a very important part of the Golden Age of Hip Hop.

The issue with Rakim, KRS1 & Kane is that during that time those 3 more than any others were consider 1,2,& 3 as Lyricist, and they all most likely measured themselves against each other, just like the fans of each of them did with the other 2. Look up DADDY-O’s last Hot 97 interview. He explained it perfectly. When we found out years later that LL wrote MC LYTE’s verse…which is one of the best standout verses, it just added more to his credibility.
