Thanks Jamie! It always amazes me; the (I don't know how to define it -- but) "natural tendency" of how some chords & notes lead to others (resolutions and secondary resolutions). This video is very helpful in learning how to work with these "natural tendencies."

I've got some easier answers you might like though: flippant but actually true answer to what to use to improvise over a 2ndary dominant D7 chord ........ANY NOTE YOU LIKE.....you know that's true right buddy????!!! more helpful and easier answer for mere mortals: use a D major scale and add a flat 3, 5 and 7. This covers all the notes you laid out...no need to bother learning loads of modes in all keys.....just take the major scale and add b3,b5,b7....apply it to any 2nd dom chord.....simples!! I checked the music choices you took examples from and at the speed the're playing you will be on a D7 for what 0.5 seconds.....you could probably get away with just playing a D note!!! LOL

I can read music, I’ve gigged, done weddings and even played on stage but my music theory is 💩 and I’ve no idea what you are talking about on here 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll carry on playing by ear and backing myself on my keyboard for the time being 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
To be honest with you I decide on a tune I like, play the start on my sax in an easy key, get my keyboard sheet music, transpose it to match the sax! I record the tune on my Genos keyboard then play along by ear on the sax 🤣🤣 my goal is careless whisper 🤣🤣 if you want a laugh I’ve put some on my channel did show me heaven this week 🤣👍🏻

Good stuff to focus on the spicy notes. Great examples, super lesson. Wonder if you could change the color of the notes you play to something other than gray since each time you play a black key, it doesn't show up. You piqued my interest to try the Venn reed. So maybe you could consider the Harry Hartman Carbon and Copper Onyx reeds that I like for your future synthetic review?
Got Hartman reeds coming for review. Can't change the colour of the keys. I've seen other people with blue keys, I need to find out what they're using!

So I decided to record to hear how it sounded compared to a Legere Signature, Carbon Onyx and Copper Carbon Classic. First, the Venn exhibited wonderful responsiveness throughout the range from low Bb to double altissimo G, but not much above that. I love that the Venn coloring closely mimics a natural reed. Its sound and character nearly match my favorite, Copper Carbon Classic. So the Venn will probably be my choice for classical venues and the Copper Carbon Classic for all other venues. And yes, I'll be getting the tenor and soprano Venn.

Yeah, don't worry if it's over your head. Go to the playlists I recommend and start there.
