I had the distinct pleasure and honor of being one of the builders who worked on the 100 foot "Sunday Money'' yacht. As a die-hard Earnhardt fan, this was a dream job for sure. It was about 6 weeks away from being delivered when he passed. Dale, Teresa, and young Taylor visited the plant a few times while it was under construction. His boat captain was there most of the time. He was a very nice guy, and funny as hell. Dale was definitely an attention to detail kind of guy and genuinely appreciated quality craftsmanship. I vividly remember walking into work the Monday morning after Daytona. The flagpole just outside the main entrance to the plant was at half-mast. It was somber to say the least.
Every Yacht he owned would have been named "Sunday Money" then. Surely if you worked on a new one just before he passed, that's definitely the truth. I've seen pictures and videos of his other yachts', and they were no doubt dated, but it was the era as well.
That's why everyone loves Dale Jr.,because he's so down to earth and knows the value of a dollar and is a sensible young man, especially the older he gets.
Nice to see someone with enough bucks to buy whatever he wants ,but sensible enough to say "Do we really need this at that price?" Love that attitude. He's not cheap, just frugal.

The funniest story I heard about Dale Sr. and the original Sunday Money came from a friend of mine, who has since passed away. He was the assistant boat captain on the yacht of a guy who at the time was the richest lawyer in the US. They are tied up at Chub Cay marina, with all the other big yachts, and they are using the crane to unload two motor scooters they had just bought for the boat. As they are setting the second scooter down, Dale Sr. walks up, in cut off jeans and a tee shirt and starts talking to them about the scooters and what a good idea to have them aboard. The boat captain, a guy named Rocky, obviously doesn't recognize Dale, Sr. Finally, Dale says, "Hey, would you mind if I took one for a test drive?" And, Rocky responds, "I guess. Are you a good driver?" And, Dale says, "Pretty good." At the point my friend could barely keep from laughing. So Rocky starts explaining the controls to Dale, still not knowing who he is, and Dale is soaking up the instruction like the professional driver he is. Finally, he drives off and Rocky turns to my friend and says, "He sounds like he knows what he's doing. I don't think he'll wreck it." My friend couldn't taken it any more and had to say, "You idiot, Rocky. That's Dale Earnhardt." And, Rocky responds, "Oh, okay. Where do you know him from?"

Speaking of vehicles that Dale Sr owned, my brother-in-law is the current owner of the King Air that was Dale Sr’s. The planes current base of operations is a small county airport about an hour north of Knoxville TN. When my brother-in-law and sister purchased it, it still had the DEI logo painted on the tail. Dale Sr must have had some clout. The aircraft registration number ends with DE. I assume for Dale Earnhardt.
Yeah the tail number thing isn’t that hard. A local car dealer here named Billy Fuccillo use to always end his commercials saying “IT’S HUGE”. You could always tell when he was in town because the private jet terminal is right next to the road and you’d see his jet sitting there with the tail number ending HUGE😂
Car owner Felix Sabates was the big Nascar yacht guy and was a business partner of a friend of mine back in the 90’s. Unforgettable moment being Sabates guest and watching Felix flip a coin with his car owner buddy Jim Mattei just outside the Nascar trailer during red flag of which Sabates won the coin flip to see who was going to get they’re yacht built first by my buddy with Trinity Yachts. Dale and Amy recently had one of my daughters friend, who is a young photographer take family photos of their girls and Amy. Such a wholesome folk. It’s sweet.
My dad was like Dale Sr. He doesn't have Earnhardt money, but he's doing OK. He doesn't like to spend money, but when he does he'll spend the money to get the best version of what he's buying. We had two boats while I was growing up. A 26ft Sea Ray cabin cruiser and later a 16ft Chris-Craft runabout. My most vivid memory of the Sea Ray was watching my dad wince every time he put gas in it! I know how much marine fuel was in the 80s, I'd hate to know how much it costs today!
A friend i had here in Pensacola FL, used to be the first mate on the original Sundays Money that was the sport fishing boat in the keys. He has since passed but showed me pics of him, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress holding up Mahi they caught!! Cool stuff
The one thing that is on the top of the long list of reasons why I respect Jr is his honesty. He is one of the few well known people who is not going to lie about his faults. He was like this on the racetrack also. If he knew that he caused a wreck, accidentally, he immediately apologized on the radio. During the years that I watched NASCAR every weekend, I think I could count on one hand the amount of other drivers who would do that. Jr is really a class act. This is one of the reasons he was voted the most popular driver for a record setting 15 years in a row (until he retired). Not the only reason, but he is respected!
Couple years ago I looked up the location of Sunday Money on some live boat GPS app. It was docked in Montauk NY , for the summer. 50 miles from my house. H Jumped in my truck and went for a ride. Was barely able to see where it said Sunday Money but I did see it. Awesome moment.

Oh God, Dale, if you don’t like wasting money, you gotta be careful w/boats. Talk to someone that has something like what you want - every move you make with a boat costs way more than you think - and it is constant; you pay for a slip every month, have guys pull it out of the water for winter, winterize it, etc, etc. It’s like checks every month just to own it. A house boat has all the potential issues that a house has, a boat has, and a car has, all rolled into one, lol.
I've always been the same way. I'm pretty much cheap but will splurge on certain things. But it basically comes down to, I ain't paying more than I think something is worth. If the cost doesn't make sense, it doesn't matter how much money you have.
I helped take care of Jeff Burtons Yellowfin here in Charleston, SC at Bohicket Marina. I remember him coming down with his boys and taking them out on the river. What a great segment. Thanks for the memories fellas!
I worked at Hatteras yachts and was working on Dale's last Sunday money a 100 plus foot yacht and got to meet him in person for the first time and I was able to get an autograph and became a fan because at the time I was not because of his driving style.
That opening, we've all been there, but for most of us it's 17-20 foot bass boats. I grew up in the boat business, it's wild how much boats cost these days. The most expensive bass boat in 1990 was like $40,000 tops, with every option. I just went and found an old ad, couldn't find a bass boat, but 1998, Monark 22 foot Pontoon boat was $13,000!
Are you talking about the sport fishing boat? I remember a approx 55’ Hatteras that was a sport fishing boat that Dale owned back in 1994. He was docked across from us down in Treasure Cay once and that boat was an attention getter.
Jr has millions stacked upon millions and will never go broke. His kids, kids, kids, kids will never have to work if managed correctly. But you can't take it with you Jr. Always remember that.
It’s not how much you make. It’s how much you save. Look at all those NFL and Prize fighters that made millions and are now broke. Poor money management skills. Don’t live above your means.
i have a oooold picture of Sunday Money somewhere in the storage bins, i have a picture of Sr and Jr with eachother before the 01' 500 and lots more! should dig em up lol
Living in Florida we knew where SR’s home was and Sunday Money was docked behind it along with Taylor’s Toy up on a lift. It became a ritual to go by and see the boats and they were there unused for a couple years. It was strangely sad the day we came by and they were gone.
Few drivers fished the “white marlin open” tournament. My family owned a 65’ Viking and we would fish in that tournament and others. We would see a few nascar drivers and their boats it was cool. I saw Michael Jordan and his boat a few times too.
He took almost 500k at the MA500 this year. Don't feel like Sr's boat was a great fishing boat but more of the cruiser style Hatteras but have met a few celebs at the bar at Sunset over the years. Miss getting to cover the WMO like I did back in the day. Crazy to think of what it took to do real time updates and a web cam in the 2000's compared to now. Can throw up a go-pro on a stick and in a half hour have a full livestream set up, used to take three days 2 laptops and 500 feet of catV cable...

I've always been the same way. I'm pretty much cheap but will splurge on certain things. But it basically comes down to, I ain't paying more than I think something is worth. If the cost doesn't make sense, it doesn't matter how much money you have.
Thanks for the video, I was lead pyro and yes Curtis was on my crew!
Boat. Noun. A hole in the water, surrounded by wood, fiberglass, or metal, into which one pours money.
Stapleton42 channel represents!!!
I miss your dad he was my superhero man love his stories
I helped take care of Jeff Burtons Yellowfin here in Charleston, SC at Bohicket Marina. I remember him coming down with his boys and taking them out on the river. What a great segment. Thanks for the memories fellas!
I saw it in Montauk a few years back loved that boat
The definition of boat is "A hole in the water you throw money into" 😅
Neil Peart wrote that owning a sailboat is like standing in the shower and tearing up hundred dollar bills
My dad was & still is my super hero, Iiss him everyday
miss mine too
I worked at Hatteras yachts and was working on Dale's last Sunday money a 100 plus foot yacht and got to meet him in person for the first time and I was able to get an autograph and became a fan because at the time I was not because of his driving style.
Just saw the original Sunday Money go by in NSB on the ICW .My Dad chilled on that boat with Sr in the Abacos
The fact they mention Stapleton is awesome
You know the old saying about a boat the happiest day in your life is when you buy it and when you sell it .
Sunday Money was a Hatteras built in my hometown of New Bern, NC.
Are you talking about the sport fishing boat? I remember a approx 55’ Hatteras that was a sport fishing boat that Dale owned back in 1994. He was docked across from us down in Treasure Cay once and that boat was an attention getter.
Lmao I was the same with our wedding. So many times I was going “are you out of your mind???”
A friend with a boat is better than a boat with a note 😊
Seems like Jr understands when it comes to finances. Don't think we will ever walk into a parts store and be waited on by Jr!😂
I have a Jeep named Sunday Money.Mud runner won a bunch of races still have it today. 44 cut boggers BBC 509cid
Jr has millions stacked upon millions and will never go broke. His kids, kids, kids, kids will never have to work if managed correctly. But you can't take it with you Jr. Always remember that.
Garth Brooks said "i have so much money, no i have more money than my grand kids grand kids can spend”
That's what the ol'commodore Vanderbilt probably thought too....
He was wrong of course.
Imagine being worth 500 million having money to buy whatever you want whenever you want and still looking at used boats
Yeah! I wanna be like him!
Smart man.
It’s not how much you make. It’s how much you save. Look at all those NFL and Prize fighters that made millions and are now broke. Poor money management skills. Don’t live above your means.
This story is funny to me. Your boat “Loose Change” rarely went out and one time I did see it going out you were at a race.
😂 i feel the same way, one of my biggest fears is being broke.
Edit:😂 a boat is a hole in the water where you throw your money.
That's what it is. He so frugal and good business wise. He could afford the boats.
Good to know there is exactly someone like me out there.
That Lady you have Dale IS WORTH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE AND MORE.... Don't go Cheap on her..!!!❤❤
Stapleton42 is the mentioned RUclips channel
Dale Jr’s spending habit is me 😂
man @stapleton42 getting a shout out on the dale jr download for his video on Dales bus is great
i have a oooold picture of Sunday Money somewhere in the storage bins, i have a picture of Sr and Jr with eachother before the 01' 500 and lots more! should dig em up lol
Smart. The more possessions, the more they possess you of your time and your money in the end.
Dale is just a good dude. Get that boat though!
Living in Florida we knew where SR’s home was and Sunday Money was docked behind it along with Taylor’s Toy up on a lift. It became a ritual to go by and see the boats and they were there unused for a couple years. It was strangely sad the day we came by and they were gone.
He is old school 💪
7:43 Best part of the show! 😆
You tube has a video of Sunday Money. 5 years ago it was for sale after a refresh in 2012. Asking price was $4,200,000.
I used to work at Old Port cove remember it well
Few drivers fished the “white marlin open” tournament.
Can throw up a go-pro on a stick and in a half hour have a full livestream set up, used to take three days 2 laptops and 500 feet of catV cable...
i have an old wrangler poster from the 1982 Southern 500 that Dale Sr signed for me that day One of my most prized possessions
It's currently in Brunswick, GA
Sunday Money is sitting in Brunswick, Ga. It took a beating during hurricane Idalia
Cool show ESPN 30 for 30 is one of the best. Funny I'm a ups driver in Tampa we have more than 1 ex nfl players slinging boxes
the picture they show is the first day photo, before they used it up.
