Cats do get vegetable matter in the wild by eating the intestines of animals that had eaten vegetable matter. But I do understand your point that they do not usually eat human type vegies. I mix chopped grass into food or just give fresh grass.
Thanks for giving a great rounded out view & plenty of options for people in different situations. I agree, even if you feed cooked or grocery store raw meats it's far far better than processed foods. Your presentations are very thorough.
(Just my own tips for beginners: Marked down raw meat from grocery can have alot of bacteria, maybe too much, even with washing, so be careful) Also it's good to start them out early on raw bones & continue un-interupted. If you adopt a dog or cat that may have been on a poor diet, their intestines/teeth can be comptomised & lead to punctures or broken teeth. I found this out the hard way.)

For the raw diets would I be able to pre portion out my cats meals and freeze them? I don’t know if thawing them out would have a negative impact or what but I feel like I’d have a better chance of sticking with feeding my cats a raw diet if I can make their meals in advance, because one thing that’s held me to dry food is the convenience. Which obviously isn’t a good excuse to not feed my cats well

Make a big batch and then put it in single day containers. Every day you feed out of one and get another one out of the freezer and it's thawed out by the next day. It is perfectly fine to thaw out meat grinder. Divide it all up or whatever and then refreeze it. No issues at all. I've been doing it for 20 years. Whether you make the food yourself or buy it frozen it doesn't matter. Thaw it out. Divide it up and freeze it.

I've been feeding Raw for 20 years now. In the last few years, there has been a huge increase in the amount of supplements that people think they need to add. @@yahlymher5053 the easiest way is to buy 80 1010 blends, that's 80% mussel meat 10% bone and 10%, organ meat, and then add more muscle meat to it. Because cats don't need 10% bone. And it can be any muscle meat, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, salmon, whatever. Throw in some chicken hearts, one chicken heart a day is plenty, gives more muscle meat, but it also gives taurine. If you are feeding your cat, a well-rounded full meat diet you do not need to add anything. Muscle bone and organ is all they need. You can throw in something with her feathers on it if you want to.

Wish equivalent resources were listed for UK suppliers! I have not graduated to raw food (yet) and am struggling with appropriate supplements. Initially I used a you tube video from someone who really seemed to understand all the ins and outs of cat nutrition but using cooked turkey primarily. She DID grind the turkey bones - I kept the turkey bones separate and then ground them after cooking - and then sieved them to ensure that any sharp fragments could not be left in the cat food. Added ingredients included pumpkin, green beans, flax seed, wheat bran, kelp salmon oil ...and so on. Any information that would help me on my journey would be much appreciated.

It might be important to find out if the un-cooked/cooked bones were fed to animals that had previously been on poor diets. The intestinal system can be compromised and bones of any type are risky to feed to these animals. Also if they were on poor diets and their teeth had gotten weak, they may end up with alot of cracked teeth. Better to grind the bones for these animals. Also I know some are against the no-grain idea, but after over 20 years I found that without exception my pets do alot better without grain. When I have re-homed any of them, I always take them back no-questions. They always come back so sickly & I know it's partly the grain & partly the poor quality food.

If you slowly start mixing in the tiniest amount of better food with what they are accustomed to over time, they WILL adopt that…it’s a control issue.
They are waiting you out to see if you give in - trust me.!! Lol Once they figure out that this is the only option for them to eat. If they are hungry enough they definitely will eat it eventually - and I have one of the pickiest animals I’ve ever owned…. her fur was gross and greasy, always matted even though she groomed a lot-was always itchy -now a year later she eats full raw Happily -she’s shiny soft isn’t lethargic anymore and nowhere near as itchy as she once was…
Most importantly, over the 15 to 20 years of their life, the (holistic) Vet told me that the increase in kidney disease, diabetes, etc. has skyrocketed- Which can only be food!
Food is health-keep trying! Tiny bits hidden in w what they like, everything is a power struggle with the cat personality I have now, but when it comes to food, I wouldn’t give in and she’s so much better for it. Good luck!

The best food for allergic cats are foods that contain only one ingredient. I feed my cat "pure chicken" and "pure turkey" from mjamjam, a german company. In the chicken food is only organic chicken, nothing else that could cause an allergic reaction. If you don't know what causes the allergy, you can find out with pure sorted meat what is making problems and avoid it. Royal Canin is maybe not so bad, you can feed it for a while, but dry cat food is like processed food for humans, if you feed it for a long time, it can cause other issues like diabetes, pancreas or kidney problems.

@@1974tigress -That's great. I try to shop wisely too, I need to with 9 cats & 2 small dogs. What I meant was don't buy grocery store marked down meat. (unless you really trust your store) It is so loaded with bacteria even after it's cooked I don't trust it. Once it made one of my cats very ill even though I cooked it. The store is a better quality one too.

@@1974tigress - We all need a break sometimes. I buy pre-made frozen on occasion for variety & to have a break in preparation. It's just so expensive for 9 ctas & 2 little dogs. If you get from a butcher that would be tons better than grocery store marked down, which is what I was warning against due to my cats getting sick (even though I cooked it) Wish my town had a butcher, I sure would go there!! You are very blessed! 🕊

    What about salmonella?

    • @izza5163
      @izza5163 Месяц назад

ancestrally, cats survived on hunting live prey in the wild, and even to this day cats on the street eat a lot of prey, biologically salmonella is not a big issue to them, not to say it isn't impossible, but it doesn't pose as big of an issue as it does to humans

I was wondering if its safe to give cats canned sardines?... Obviously without salt!

It's safe but not for their main food source, maybe just as a treat. Fish have mercury which can give the cat mercury poisioning if you feed it too much.

Sardines don’t have that much mercury if any, they are so small and don’t live long. Tuna has mercury.

Hey, spare for your cat to get him to the vet, that is important. Don’t play doctor.
My cat scratched a lot and had very dry and damaged skin, I gave him cat oils/ salmon oil or krill oil. You can try that. I hope you can buy that.
