    Need a video format like this about design language and how to create/develop it rather than copying other brands. Would love to hear your take on this!!!

      a big tip is to try and mimick your inspiration in the beginning to hone your own taste and style of making things, and then doing it more seriously when you’ve got that down. Because, when you’ve tried different things you find a feel for some of the elements in each one of those things and start mashing them together, making your work original and your ideas stray away from other’s work. that’s my opinion tho

    I don't have a lot of money so I don't have privilege to trial and error my personal style. I like to have a mental exercise to imagine which items match my wardrobe the best and having a deep understanding for what actually my needs and not just what I just desire.

    • @preston9543
      @preston9543 Год назад +4

      reduce trial and error by finding things you like, but wouldn't normally wear, when you force yourself to style these types of items it gives you a better understanding of what your style could grow into/be but it takes time

    • @OwenHyatt
      @OwenHyatt  Год назад +5

      Totally understand that man! I'd suggest "trying on" as much stuff as possible in stores. Also most brands will have a return policy if you wanted to buy new. Thrifting / eBay shopping can be a great budget option to try on some new silhouettes you've got your eyes on. Also, Preston's totally right. Step outside your norm but make sure the pieces you're acquiring are something you see yourself actually wearing!

    I only felt like I had started to form my own personal style once I had gone to the goodwill bins pretty often for like 6 months. Ik this isn’t something that’s available for everyone, but I think it’s worth trying if you can. For me, it made it easier to try clothing I wouldn’t typically since it came with practically no monetary risk. I found that the pieces I was unsure about getting, but said fuck it bc it’s so cheap, are those that I tend to like the most. If you buy something you don’t end up liking, you can just donate it back. I can picture someone calling this wasteful or thrift hoarding, but the bins are the last resort for those clothes, and there is no shortage of them whatsoever. Great clothes get thrown out everyday just because no one picked them up 🤷

    • @OwenHyatt
      @OwenHyatt  Год назад

      So true. I wish I lived near good bins. Super dependent on your city! But you're 100% right if you live near a place with great bins it's such a environmentally conscious and affordable way to try on a huge variety

    You said to find clothes that flatter your body type but that's what im having a hard time finding. Not a lot is made for wider dudes. What do you suggest I do? or do you have some places that accommodate for bigger guys?

      I think it highly depends what you're after! From the clothing productive perspective, most brands will produce fewer XS and XL-XXL sizes just purely based on sales numbers so it WILL be harder to find those pieces but they're out there! Might just take a bit of searching online
